- Welcome to Episode 2 in this surfboard painting series! I’ll be showing you spray paint and paint marker techniques to create an awesome skull and moray eel design on your surfboard. Follow me on Insty: / fieldey and sign-up to my MadSkillz MasterClub newsletter: www.fieldey.com... and get ready to take your art to the next level!
In this tutorial I use Molotow Belton Premium aerosol paint and ONE4ALL inks and paint markers to create some awesome effects. I’ll be showcasing one of my favourite aerosol tricks, the liquid soap effect, for the background and then I’ll build on that showing you how to layer your artwork using paint pens and markers.
I’ll also discuss how to fill an empty marker to create several layers of shadows, and how to change over the marker nib to a brush-style tip to create ultra fine lines.

My name is Fieldey, I’m a surf, skate and street artist from Australia. I started this channel 5 years ago when I was an unhappy corporate designer yearning to become an artist. Since posting my very first video I’ve been on a crazy journey from teaching myself to paint surfboards and skateboards, to painting large-scale street art murals!
Turning my passion into a full-time career has been a massive learning curve and I want to pass on the skills and knowledge I’ve learned, as well as inspire others who’re just starting out on their creative journeys.
I post on Saturday every fortnight, sometimes more, and you can expect to see easy to follow, Mad Skillz Masterclass tutorials, Artist Insider vlogs and inspirational projects that I’ve been working on.

Good Lord! Best looking artwork I've ever seen on a board! You make it look so easy- You're not fooling me ...
... that came with years of experience and an inherited good hand and eye!
Haha! Thank you! Just lots of practice, that's really all it comes down to. That, and a natural enjoyment of doing art stuff - you gotta enjoy it to be motivated to put in the practice

Totally sick artwork ,girl you've got mad skills, thanks for the video upload
You are so skilled!
I just stumbled upon this video today while at work sketching (i'm a designer at Ford Motor Company) This is AWESOME! It has inspired me all day and I keep watching all the videos over and over. I see you do a lot of surf boards and skate boards. I do supermoto and I wanted to do my MX helmet the way you do your boards with the detergent style and brush/pen paint. Have you ever tried doing a helmet of any kind? Might be a cool new medium for you to try? Keep it up. Love the work :)
+Anthony Spadaro That would be an awesome idea! The only potential problem for the helmets would be that the soap would slide off them as you painted on the top coat, but that would also look really cool.
I love this, you are an inspiration! Keep up the awesome work!!
Very nice workmanship!
Insane level of detailing!
That is one hell of a talent there u got there!!!
Incredible result. Mesmerizing!
i love this style. i have started using molotow paint markers for my highlights and love how it pops..now seeing the other colors and the other nibs you can truly take a lot of the boring work of laying down the base colors a lot more quickly with such large nibs. thanks for the tips i enjoyed your techniques.
Thanks Brian! Yeah, they're really adaptable and I have no patience when it comes to covering large areas of base colour so being able to do it quick is a real plus!
That's bad ass! You got skillz girl!
wow,....great detail!!,.......
unreal...you are a top notch artist👍
It looks awesome!!!!
I so want my board to look like this! In love with this design!!
That's freaking gnarly. Really awesome work of art.

killer work! love your style!
Pase 3 años buscando este canal de nuevo, me encantaaa
You're channel is awesome. I've been airbrushing since a teen ( 23 now) But I've never painted a surfboard. As I'm a beach bum now I think it's time to paint some up ! Have you ever had issues with your clear coat playing up with the dish washing soap? some products like that hold contaminants and stuff such as ammonia which will eventually release a prematurely ruin your clear. ( just advice if that ever happens to you) there are some cool products out there that replicate the effect without it risking the spray paint or clear being contaminated :D
Keep the videos up!
i love your work TOO much, i would literally do anything for a surfboard like this oh my god im subbed!!!!
Wow! Dope style!

Awesome work. Thanks for sharing... Episode 3 on its way??
MZONE 2014 just went and run away with me... first half of this year for Ep. 3 ;)
Fieldey TV excellent :) I currently you posca pens, would you say Molotow are better? It seems they have the edge with the ability to mix colours in the pen...
MZONE I like them better because there is more scope with what you can do with them (ie. mix your own colours in the pen, or use the refill inks as normal paint and apply with brush) also they are designed to work in tandem with their spray paints... so for me I like them better ;)
Very very wonderful
Hello your video was great I going to try to do it in my 15 ft sailboat
Good luck!
That's wicked I love it
Nice tips. Thanks!
so beautiful omg!!!!!
Awesome!!
You are amazing!
Hi I love your work and want to thank you for the tutorials. I followed all the steps in the video on how to prep the board. My board is new and when I applied the base coat it came out very patchy. I don't know what to do any suggestions. Thank you again for the videos!!
What paints are you using +Ashap ster ? Patchy spray paint can happen for a few reasons, but here are a few:
- Too light a coat or spraying from too far away (just do another coat of paint)
- Not shaking your can for long enough (new cans need a minute or more of shaking to make sure the paint and solvents are combined)
I'd try a second coat of paint, but if it's flaking off your surface wasn't prepped properly (needed more sanding) or the paint isn't suitable for surfboards.
Bro bro that's good work
Definitely artistic, I like it. Ever try an airbrush? It would be even better, it's something I'm considering.
jesus that design is amazing, I wish I had your talent. I want a tattoo with a design like that.
+Chad Cochrane Thanks! You should get one done!

Hey fieldy! you should totally do a cathulu board that would be interesting or a shark board I'd really be interested in seeing those :D
Good idea - I might be doing a shark board later in the month, but the cthulhu one would be mental!
