  • BYU engineers designed and built this human-powered drill that can be used to drill water wells in developing countries, where traditional drilling methods are too expensive. Sponsored by WHOlives.org, the water well drill project was part of a senior Capstone project by Brigham Young University mechanical engineering students.

Nice machine! What would be a great addition to this, is a high volume manual well pump.

We do finish the wells with an electric or manual hand pump.

This would work well with the Water4 inc model... give the tool to the people and train them how to use it... then they can go around digging wells themselves as a job. Builds an economy/jobs and provides water access points. The 250 foot depth will work well in certain regions of Africa...

What type of rock can it drill in? Have you successfully drilled a well with it? Thanks for sharing.

We have successfully dug over 13,000 wells in 2023.
