One of my favorite things when analyzing Stockfish's games is when Stockfish gives itself brilliant moves or inaccuracies
Probably analyzing at a higher depth
@@patstaysuckafreeboss8006 Higher depth, and the browser integrated version is often not the latest update
@@jean-pierrecoffe6666 not to mention it's just straight-up less performant. Like, yeah WASM is pretty fast, but definitely not at native speeds - typically being 50%-250% slower - so that much less computation done and that many less brilliancies and inaccuracies gleaned
it's a low depth version analyzing the better one though
@dude3000 yeah, they use stockfish, but the stockfish algorithm doesn't really have "brilliancy" or "inaccuracies", every position simply gets a score. The chess website decides what those are.
Levy talking about his dog gives the same vibes as when you try to distract the teacher by making him talk about his life 😂
Bro, this gave me major flashbacks. I don't remember doing it myself, but I definitely witnessed in the classroom and it was fucking funny haha
Relatable AS FUCK.
@Seeing Star is this a link to my childhood?? or?
Very astute observation.
Like, I can't follow what's being said in the class but have you heard what Trump said about XYZ?

Stockfish should grant humans GM titles if they can draw against Stockfish jk

Also Levy anyways so none of that happened
It's honestly one of the most entertaining things about Gotham videos.
lmfao
@@benjaminoechsli1941 Indeed. Exploring theoretical lines regardless of if they were played is the essence of chess.
I was thinking about this a few videos ago as well lol
The engines each do about two hours of this before each of their moves, that's often how they play :P
One of the things I *LOVE* about engine games is how the tempo can get so high that they won't make immediate takes because something else needs to happen first and that something else is so important that they will just leave pieces lying around
Do you know that the concept of having pets indoors and pets being cute and cuddly are not universal?

@@Herculean.Aficionado i still can't see the comment you're referring to
The dog interactions made me so incredibly happy.
If Stockfish sacrifices material seemingly for no reason in the endgame (sometimes even a full queen), it's probably because it's close to getting into a theoretical (100%) known win according to the tablebase. It sacrifices the pieces to get into a known win faster (a position with 6 or 7 pieces on the board).
That's also my guess, if I'm not mistaken, the game is Superfinal game 88, and sf already given 150+ evaluation on move 53.
I think the engines are only given 6 piece tablebase not 7 and that's why Leela instantly resigned when there are only 6 pieces left
If that is true, that is also very sad.
I posted this as well. It's because of TB probing. I'm surprised at how little chess masters know about how these chess engines work, seeing as how they have to use them all the time in pre-game prep. Also there's a lot of people confused in the comments asking why Leela didn't get a shot as white in the same opening. TCEC does in fact give each side a chance at the same opening, and SF still blew Leela out of the water with something like 18 winning game pairs to just ONE for Leela.
I mean, to an engine, a known win is no different than a checkmate, so logically, a known win in 2 would be preferred to a checkmate in 3.
We're doomed when Stockfish becomes self-aware
Legit 😅😅
En passants behind you
yeah he is a real creep
Check mate...
@@eacringesports5137 This is the best comment on youtube.
20:17 We saw with the high level GO and DotA AIs that once they were guaranteed to win they started making moves that were no longer optimal. They didn't care if they won by a tiny margin or a massive one.
I came here after watching 40K videos and I thought my RUclips app was glitching because when you said "DotA AI" I thought it said "DAoT AI" and my brain basically had to reboot
That's really interesting, do we have an explanation for that?
Is it possible that it was diverting the king so that it could safely play Bc5?
edit: what am I talking about the king moved on its own between those
@@KitKatHexe I smell heresy
@@snbeast9545 no i honestly think you're right! I cant begin to comprehend all the lines that could've come from not sacking the pawn but it very much looks like a classic attraction tactic and i can definitely imagine how the king on the 6th rank is better for black in some way so white chose to attract it to the 5th. If the king just moves out of check that pawn becomes another threat of queening. Again im no engine but in my eyes its more likely to be an attraction tactic rather than a humorous blunder

I remember when Leela was 1600 and I almost won a game against her. Later when Leela was around 2700 I really hoped for Magnus vs Leela game, human versus artificial intelligence, but sadly such a match never happened.
There was a Leela vs penguin match though which you might find interesting.
@@BrennenChua yeah, that bullet match was exciting, I believe i even watched part of if live.
But you know, I really wanted kind of Kasparov vs Deep Blue V2 match. Classical match. Deep positional thinking, who could win, a human, or a machine that thinks more like a human.
But now it's far too late. Maybe another chance will emerge if some new revolution in technology happens and it will be used to create even more different chess AI.

The most insane part about the rook that was hanging for so many moves is that it lived until the end of the game.

I appreciate you not cutting any part of the dog interaction. We are so used to videos being altered to show only the best and seeing that whole section felt really nice for a change!
Well it's clear that if Stockfish didn't senselessly give up the pawn in the endgame the game would not have ended on move 69 which would have been an L for everyone.

Levy I’ll be totally honest, even ignoring your chess skill, you genuinely are just an amazing teacher. You’re just such a sociable guy, and I feel like you could talk about anything, no matter how boring, and be enticed by it. That’s true skill telling from my attention span lol.
I love how during your chess explanation you give us little bits and pieces of what's going in your life, I enjoy it a lot and your doggo is adorable.
Oh my. Next time Benji appears in a RUclips video, he will be bigger than Levy!
As long as you remain most focused on the chess, I actually really enjoy the occasional cameo of your family and home life. It lets us see Levy the person, and that's really cool
Never apologize for Benji! More Benji!
Also, great Twitter reference
I didn't see this TCEC game live, and it somehow flew under my radar, so thanks for covering it, Levy! Utterly bonkers. Worth mentioning that when Stockfish was forced to play black from the same starting position, Leela was able to win as well in a more straightforward game, with a very AlphaZero-style early pawn push to h6.
I'm doing well levy! Keep up the amazing content! GTE and engine videos are my favorite type of content you make, and yes, Benji made it more entertaining:)
Love when Benji comes through

This game is beautiful because it shows how engines play without emotions. It only plays for best optimal play.
you know a game is wild when the player who is up on material is losing.
I completely support the puppy break in the video 🐕
Stockfish is so good that he starts with +0.6 ...I'm dieing
gotta love stockfish awarding stockfish a good evaluation
We all love to see 3000+ engines fight each other
We all laugh when they make a weird looking move and deem it good for them
Leela didn't resign on move 69. It was because TSEC uses Tablebases and there were 6 pieces left and it is won for white, giving white the win.
This feels like they are playing a few moves in the future and are just constantly preparing
reminds me of the Edward vs Alice in Twilight.
Alice can see the future to see what Edward plays. Edward can read Alice's mind to know what she is going to play
Benji just chilling/worrying in the background🤣😀and then when the circus starts just worries even more!!
Engine content can be well beyond lost on me but that was a wild game. I even watched the ads.
Great game that manages to be a 360 and 3600 elo game at the same time.
