    The Blue caps on the Styled Steel wheels are wrong for 1965…they should be Red. For those who don’t know, an A or K engine code is not automatically a GT, it just means they could be.

    What is the difference in a K code motor and an A code motor??? Both are 289 CID 4BBL carbs and dual exhaust pipes??? The K code is called a high performance or Hi Po. Is the A code the GT motor??? I do not know. Please tell me if you do know. On the 1964 1/2 Mustang, the 289 CID with 4 BBL and dual exhaust is called the D code motor. Was there a C code motor in 1964 1/2??? Please let me know.

      K-Code engine was a 271 HP High Performance engine with solid camshaft, thicker main bearing caps, stronger rods with 3/8" rod bolts and different caps, different heads with cast-in valve spring pockets and threaded rocker studs and a dual point distributor without vacuum advance, among a few other details such as crankshaft counter weight, different fuel pump, hardness tested crankshaft and different exhaust manifolds. K-Code cars came with a 9" differential with 3.50:1 gears and optional 3.89:1. In 1965, K-Codes were only available with 4-speed transmission. A-Code engine was similar to the C-Code but had 10:1 compression instead of 9.3:1 plus a 4V Autolite 4100 carb, 225HP. The GT was only available with an A code or a K code engine. Period. D-Code engine was basically a 9.3:1 C-Code engine with a 4V intake slapped on it. 210HP. That engine was labeled as K-Code for the 64 Comet because Lee Iacocca would not let Mercury put the HiPo in the Comet at that time because he was saving them for the Mustangs and Fairlanes. I hope that his helps.

    Cool stuff and a neat car. How many GTs were actually made in 1965? Do you think that this car was an actual GT?

    • @MustangConnection1
      @MustangConnection1  8 лет назад

      Thanks George, not sure as many dealers offered their own add on GT package. I am not sure I have seen a published number for the actual total in 65 or 66. Yes for this money I sure hope it was the real deal, it appeared to be in order.

    So what is a S code 65 white fastback that I just had in my shop for many years of storage??

    • @SuperKONR
      @SuperKONR 8 лет назад

      S code is a 390 but that didn't start until 1967, there was no S code in 1965.

    • @MustangConnection1
      @MustangConnection1  8 лет назад

      No such thing it had to have been a '67 -69 as that was the only year of the S code for Mustangs. 390 4 barrel motor.

    • @MustangConnection1
      @MustangConnection1  8 лет назад

      Correct for the 1967's you can get a Marti report verifying the DNA of the car.

    • @Johnswebs
      @Johnswebs 8 лет назад

      Ok I will try to find the vin for it. It has a S code on the Title. I think it was a 289 with automatic. I put in a 351w with adapter plate and newer toploader 4 speed. Was white with red interior. He went with black interior and it was still in primer when his brother picked it up..

    Could GTs have had a 3 speed Manuel?

    • @MustangConnection1
      @MustangConnection1  8 лет назад

      The K codes only came with 4 speed toploaders, the A code is a different story. I have seen them before and considering the later GT's could be had with a 3 speed manual I would say yes.

    • @jeffreycruz4236
      @jeffreycruz4236 8 лет назад

      Thanks for the reply, also you mentioned that GT's could not be c code 2v cars, but I saw a 1967 mustang GT that a dealer was selling and it was a factory 289 2v car. The marti report also stated that it was also a GT. Could this mean that maybe a select few, if any, 65-66 cars could be Gt's while still being a C code?

    • @MustangConnection1
      @MustangConnection1  8 лет назад

      Jeffrey Cruz 65-6 have to be either an A or K code to be a GT period. There are no factory C code GT's in 65 or 6. Things changed in '67.

    The different colors of background at the end is really irritating. Pick a color (not red) and stick with it. Pick a soothing color. You are presenting information not; showcasing your talent as a videographer.

    My cousin had a 1966 Mustang.
    She Bought it used 1969 .
    It was green with a white vinyl top.
    It had pony interior.
    I know the car had a 6 cylinder Engine.
    It had Colt on the vinyl top.
    Have you ever heard of this addition ?
    I have never seen one since .
    Must have been really rare?
    Great video, very informative.

      George, I have not see the colt on the top it was likely a dealer add or some catalog deal, Thanks for watching and sharing.

    Hi, great video, I have looked at countless videos and web pages trying to find this information.
    I have a 1966 coupe that I have done up, it has everything in your video except the front disc brakes and it is very frustrating as everyone I speak to says it MUST have front disc brakes to be a GT. It even had the disc brake logo on the brake pedal. The car had never been restored as far as I can tell and I have all photos to prove it has all the points in your video. My question to you is-
    Is it possible to have front drum brakes on a GT? I don't see why someone would've gone to all the trouble to try to make it a gt clone, as the car was not in a very good condition when I bought it. Or the only other thing I can think of, is that for some reason the disc brakes were swapped for another car? It has bugged me from day one from when I first bought the car.(the seller, never even mentioned anything about it possibly being a gt,but he wasn't a ford man, he was just going to do it up and flip it) Any input would be greatly appreciated-I can send photos to you if required.Regards Dave from Melbourne Australia

      @MustangConnection1  5 лет назад

      Has to have disc brakes, it is costliest item to change over, hence I have seen more than a few "GT" clones without front disc brakes. Additonally the early cars could be ordered anyway you like it so it is possible that someone ordered a highly optioned A code and then someone else helped along the way with the rest of the package and looks.

    My 1965 Fastback has all the GT options described in your video but it's a C code with a 302 engine and badges. The ownership also is documented as a GT. Very difficult to get the right answer. Nice Video.

      302 engines came out in '68 and I've never heard of a GT package on a 'C' code Mustang.

    That '65 Convertible was seriously hit in the Driver's side Fender at one time. You'd have to be blind not to see that. The Driver's side Fender apron shows the damage...Just look at it. Those are not Die Pressing Wrinkles in the fender apron. That's visible accident damage. That GT also has a '67 Glass back window which is not correct or ever factory available in 1965 or 1966. *Also, IN 1966, The C4 Transmission WAS AVAILABLE with a K-Code motor from the factory...Just look at 1966 Shelby GT-350 H cars as a strong example of that. @MustangConnection1  6 лет назад

      I appreciate your comment..... Yes this car was hit hard, it is not my place to ruin's someone's chances at auction and pick their car apart right in front of them. That is up to the potential buyer and not the point of this particular video. As for the Glass back window again not part of what I was intending to mention. Yes, in '66 the C4 was indeed available, after 3 days and hundreds of cars there is the occasional oversight.

      I wonder how many thousand shims are behind that upper control arm. You can see that the apron and spring tower is way inside and you can see the holes in the apron. It's at least 1/2" pushed in towards the engine. Exhaust manifold is probably vibrating on the tower unless they moved the engine over to the other side. Someone could have done a much better job repairing that wrecked car.

    All GT exterior packages came with factory four piston disc brakes. You could order either interior pony and/or exterior packages. Also had quick steering box and sports supension. Those wheels are not factory but after market.

    What about those cars that just had the GT handling package? Are they not GT's? Also they could have special ordered drum brakes on them because my late father's A code convertible was ordered by him that way.

    • @MustangConnection1
      @MustangConnection1  4 года назад

      Good question. You could pick and choose a seemingly endless number of stand alone options and many people did. However all factory GT Mustangs came with disc brakes. The A code just denotes that it was a 289 4V car and there were many ordered with the 4 barrel engines that were not GT's.

    • @jeffsherren8999
      @jeffsherren8999 4 года назад

      Well, I know that his car had drum brakes on it from the factory with the GT handling package. The sway bar, spindles, n steering box are under my mother's 64 1/2 convertible. It was also a 3spd with a 3.00 Trac lok. The rear end is also in my mom's car. I know the A code denotes the 225hp 289.

      @markmarks4343 3 года назад

      @@jeffsherren8999 While the GTs had the Handling Package included the GT Package, other non-GT Mustangs could be ordered with the "Handling Package". Different springs, shocks, 16:1 ratio steering box and larger front stabilizer bar. I had a C-Code coupe that was special ordered with the handling package...

    My friend had a panel shop and a there was an Ford XB GT 4 Door sedan that was really rusty that was getting repaired and I asked why not just do a body swap and it appears there was some markings around the heater box that authenticated it according to a "GT" expert here..I guess they did lots of little tell-tale things to limited issues...Only 1557 GTHO's were made in 1971 here and yet there are 4x's that registered as GTHO's 54 years later.!!.
