I owned two 66 GT's and used to race one, back in 2000 I found out flowmaster made 2.5 inch exhaust pipes for it, they added 5 mph to my quarter mile trap speed, up to 99 mph from 94. consistently . worth the bucks, they made about 1 in 30 mustangs were GT,s a 220 dollar option, and so well worth it .

Mike I brought a bike once put new handles on it new seat new colour new wheels and tyres ribbons on the forks.dressed it in all the add ons I could and you know what it still wasnt a fast back mustang.shelby said there a ladies car he was talking about the coupes
I am tired of hearing the Mustang Hardtop or coupe was meant for women buyers not true. The Sport roof or fastback as it is called today was 50 pounds heavier and not faster because of that roofline. the 1967 Camaro was not a fastback , nor the 1970 Plymouth Cuda or other cars . Yet the Mustang coupe is seen as a Woman's car by some people . It is the same car except that rear roofline and minor rear interior . Though that is the craze these days the fastback . I have a nice 1966 Mustang hardtop- coupe with many options and could care less about a fastback being better than my Mustang in someone else's view . These early Mustangs are light cars only slightly heavier than a 2 seat cobra , with a good crate motor small block of 400 horsepower they can outrun the big block muscle cars which weigh a lot more . The hardtop or sport roof is just a personal choice by a man or woman and nothing more, though today you will pay way more for the fastback even one in bad shape when you can find a nice coupe for a lot less money and still have a fun car to drive.

I used to think that as well but they actually did, All that was required was a “A” or “K” code engine to be a GT. I also own a GT coupe and it is real. I recommend you look it up in case you don’t believe me
The is what happens when you have a guy with no car building ability. Only ability to write a check. Bunch of parts on here that are not factory that he thinks were.
Love it, we just bought the 50th anniversary number 527!! Love it!!
Congratulations!

I just love 1965 MUSTANG GT . When I will be coming to the US I am planning to come and visit .
You have great taste in cars.

What a beauty! Just curious, is it allowed for a car to make that much noise where you live?

Hi Greg, Thank you for viewing and sharing what you notice, Lou
I'm curious why there isn't a GT gas cap? Did the '65 not have one? The '66 that I have has a GT gas cap.
Hi Nick, Hmmm, not sure. Hoping a Viewer with knowledge can share, Lou

I thought all 1965 GTs were 4 speed manual. Maybe I'm wrong.
GT 4 speed is really common, its really hard to find a real automatic gt
@@johannes4821 my '65 was a Cruise-o-matic.
Seems your question was answered by L Casarez

Me too. I had a 65 coupe and just bought a 22 Ecoboost. If the coupe had been an option I would have bought it.
Factory air conditioner didn't with black out panel
