That’s fantastic to hear! Did you see that almost all of my videos have Arabic subtitles? Thanks to a great student of mine who is translating almost all the videos
The Dutch words ijzer / ijzerwaren and ijs / ijsje / ijsco / ijslaag / ijsmassa / ijsveld start with IJ, and I think I saw a few more words with IJ - Dutch pronunciation is very easy, like English pronunciation, and the only words that are a bit challenging are a few words such as geheugen, because a word such as this one has many similar letters in the same word, kinda like the English word rural, so these are a bit harder to say, but not extremely hard tho, and definitely not impossible, they just require a bit more effort, so to speak, but the CH and the G aren’t the exact same sound tho, because G is a G-controlled H-like sound (approximant of H controlled by G aka a sound that’s right between G and H or a mix of G and H) and CH is a K-controlled H-like sound (approximant of H controlled by C or K aka a sound that’s right between K and H or like a mix of both) despite them being quite similar, but one can definitely hear the difference in Welsh words that start with CH because the K sound becomes more obvious when it’s in the beginning of a word, because CH also exists in Welsh, which kinda reminds of Dutch a bit, because of this sound and because it has a similar intonation / vibe etc and some words have similar letter combinations, such as afon / bedwen / helygen / derwen / mynd / nest / lolfa / telyn or delyn etc, while in the middle of the word they sound almost the same, so most cannot tell the difference between G and CH as they are usually in the middle of the words or at the end, and I’m not sure if Dutch has words that start with CH, because so far I have only seen words starting with SCH, but not CH!
Adorable videos! I am already binge-watching ever since this morning. One thing that has always puzzled me ( excuse my ignorance or not awareness of ), but I was wondering if there are materials or resources for learning and practicing English phonics, phonetics, and pronunciation. Hi Kim, I really like your Dutch learning videos and I will surely recommend your channel to my friends who are also learning Dutch! I think you are very creative to teach us the Dutch sounds by using the typical Dutch words! I think "negenennegentig" is really hard to pronounce, I always hear it from the TV commercials.
The Amsterdam spelling part were super funny! Lol! It is what I hear often from people when I tell I am based in the Netherlands, and I have to explain a lot of things to change this mindset that is quite common. (I am from Brazil and a similar thing happens as well but with carnaval, soccer, Rio de Janeiro, etc.)

Hoi Khalid, you know that Dutch is not the same as Deutsch? We speak Dutch in The Netherlands, in Germany they speak German (which they call Deutsch) :)
@@learndutchwithkim we speak about 17 different languages in Germany. One of those is called German. It's an artificial language that the monk Dr. Martin Luther invented in the late 1500s. Most Germans struggle with that language.
Hello Kim . I very appreciated your videos , and i was very confused when you show in you videos an website that you go to learn extra if we want . So can you make an video about how to go in the website .
I'm really bad at the g/ch sounds I can only really do it when I talk loudly (and I'm a very soft talker haha), and the R sounds which are almost rolled as I cannot roll my R's at all! I will keep practising though :)
Being level 0 in Dutch I have problems pronouncing most Dutch words that have more than 1 syllable. However, if I look at your 7 famous Dutch words Schiphol seems to be the hardest to pronounce ( for me). The S is followed by the hard ch and then the p is followed by the h ( usually the 'f' sound in English). It does not flow naturally for me. I was surprised that the Dutch uu and the formal u have the same sharp "u" sound as in French. As a French-Canadian, I was happy to see (hear) that!
Until maybe two years I pronounced nearly everything wrong (German) 🙈 I still find it very hard tonsay Schagen (the town in Noord Holland) and the ui and eeuw Sound. (By the way: I do wear wooden shoos - klompen uit Marken in mijn tuin 😊🌷)
Drachten is quite difficult for this Aussie. I love that place but they could have made it a bit easier for me 😂 Thank you for your videos, so helpful 😊
Fruit! So hard for me to say! Luckily I grew up with Dutch grandparents around every now and then speaking Dutch and Friese so I could hear these difficult sounds.
I swear to god Kim sweetheart! I honestly think memorising all wor Dutch vowels are harder than wor consonants! XD For wor constants you only have at least two of them! XD For the vowels, so god damn many of them! XD
Dit is een erg leuke manier om het alfabet te leren uitspreken en te spellen. I practice my Dutch with Doulingo but I always have issues to pronunciate Vier, Vijf and some words with "w" like Wet (mijn moedertaal is Spaans). Heb je een video voor het "W"? ¡Abrazos!
Dit is 'n superleuke manier om het Alfabet te leren Kim ! Hard to pronouce: "Zeven Scheveningse schippers schuiten varen door de onstuimige golven van de Noordzee"
Even if I listen to the "ui" sound on repeat, I still can't say it! My Dutch partner tells me to practice as much as I can and I still struggle. And ui is used in a lot of things - ui for onion (I hate onions so "zonder ui" is heel belangrijk!), uil, huis, muis and these are basic words that I can't pronounce correctly. I'm fluent in English, Indonesian/Bahasa Malay, Japanese, some Arabic (so the "g/ch" is ok with me) and Finnish (so no problems with "r" even though my native languages are primarily from Asia) but that "ui" is tricky. Anyone know what is the closest English sound for "ui" or in the languages I mentioned above?
Yes the ui is super hard. There are some nice videos on RUclips with instructions how to make the ui, maybe you can find them under “uitspraak ui” or something like that!

Kim, it's a great idea to cover most of the alphabet with a few easy-to-relate-to words. I find it difficult to pronounce those super long Dutch words. I've just run into this one: "studentenverenigingen". That's crazy 21 characters long! :)
Thanks! We have a lot of these long compound words. Try to split them into smaller pieces, like “studenten” en “verenigingen”. Or make it first singular “studenten” + “vereniging”. :)
Growing up in South Africa, I've become familiar with Afrikaans. They say the "UI" sound slightly differently. So this is very difficult for me to get! I am surprised at how much I still struggle with HUIS or TUIN.
