  • The Nintendo Switch is coming up on its 3rd year which is leading to some JoyCon controllers to become loose and weak when locking into the railings on your Switch. Today we'll be changing out one of the locks on the JoyCon to see how hard it is to do and how it feels.

    • @jakeduffy2053
      @jakeduffy2053 5 лет назад +91

      This was intentional. The plastic absorbs impacts so that the joycon breaks instead of the actual switch, so you don't need to spend another 300.

      @ramensquid it's getting a little tiresome to lose my joy con for weeks everytime something is wrong with them (which happens frequently: drifting joycons, broken r button etc) while Nintendo could've avoided this in the production fase.

      What the hell are you talking about? The rails are actually quite strong. Besides, the joycon are light controllers to begin with. If you were to drop them, the only things I can see getting damaged are the housing or analog sticks which are very flawed in design. The people who liked your comment are non tech idiots... -.- I highly recommend getting these metal locks, it'll last you basically forever and it definitely beats rebuying more plastic ones over and over because it'll wear out every single time. 😂

    Someone really needs to call Nintendo out on their Joy Cons. These are some of the cheapest "controllers" I've ever had. Fifteen years after I got my Game Cube, my GC controller barely started malfunctioning this year. Meanwhile with the Joy Cons, I've already gone through two pairs! The buttons are so cheaply made and the anolog sticks are the worst part about these controllers. Literally everyone has had drifting problems at one point or another. Nintendo really needs to up their quality with these controllers.

    Never had this problem until I had the Mario Red Joycons after 2 years. The left one started doing that about a year ago but the right one started recently since I’ve been using the right one frequently. Already ordered some.

    yeah, i was a bit disappointed and annoyed with my brand spanking new switch OLED wiggling. what worse was the latch. I have since upgraded the latch to the metal match to a secured lock.

  • @davo618ify
    @davo618ify 4 года назад

    I replaced my locks with the metal ones and they lock in so tight that they are hard to remove on the joycon attachments but when I put them into the switch it's like I never replaced them, is there anything I can do to fix this? maybe a new rail?

  • @scarboy6693

    An Alternative to this if you don't wanna open up your joycons is to put a bit of scotch tape on the outside edges of the SR and SL buttons (over the arrow signs and then the blank part on the bottom). 3-4 layers is what I added to mind and it stopped the wiggling my neon ones had.

    I had a left joy-con that had this issue a few months back. I got a similar kit from ebay with metal clips and swapped it out. It's been fine ever since. The only real difference is in the clicking sound. It has not worn down the other side of the Switch, and I have a few pairs of joy-cons (different colors) and I have no problem using ones with the original clips on the same system.

    Arent the locks plastic so they dont snap the rail of the switch if dropped, just the controller?

  • @Darkage-io4sl
    @Darkage-io4sl 5 лет назад +1

    I literally did this like 3 days ago myself and yes it helps tremendously. I personally did it because I used my switch so much that the plastic was starting to round causing it to slide away from the switch while gaming.

  • @StormsparkPegasus
    @StormsparkPegasus 5 лет назад +3

    The only issue I see with using metal clips, is because you want the rail on the system to be the more durable part, since you can't (easily) change that out. The way it's designed right now, if something does break, it's designed to be the joycon itself which can be replaced or fixed much easier. I rarely take mine off the system though since I have a Pro controller, a spare set, and a charging grip.

  • @BagelCollector
    @BagelCollector 5 лет назад

    I've known about these kits for about a year now, everytime I get a pair of joycon the first thing I do is replace those buckles and it gives a more satisfying click imo. I'll admit the only downside is that dropping your switch is more likely to actually damage it as the joycon are no longer act like shock absorbers and unlatch when struck. Of course you have to drop your switch in a very particular way before that becomes a failsafe so I really don't see it as a downside.

    I purchased a kit similar to this quite a bit ago after dropping my Joycon grip once it completely defeated the Joycon-R's latch making it a 2-way slope.
    Unfortunately, the quality of the latches I got were very poor and required far too much adjustment and fiddling for them to function properly. Hoping to find better ones so I'll give these a shot.

    I've been meaning to do this for ages now, and it went smoothly. Then I tried it out, but it still slid. I then realized that I put in the Right Joy-Con lock instead of the left one. So with a sigh, I begin to redo the process, and a screw suddenly strips on me (That stings _so_ much more than if it stripped the first time). I suppose I'll have to resort to drilling the screw up...

      You need to clean the joysticks

    • @StormsparkPegasus
      @StormsparkPegasus 5 лет назад +5

      This is either calibration (which you can do in settings menu), or if that doesn't work, it's probably dust/dirt buildup under the stick itself, which you can fix by disassembling it and cleaning it out.

    • @moodkapps4346
      @moodkapps4346 5 лет назад +2

      If calibration doesn't fix your issue take an air can ( one you would use for cleaning a computer ) and lift the flap under the joystick and blow it with the can from every direction. You might see some guck come out. Im not sure how to fix it if that does not work however.

    • @0121zero
      @0121zero 5 лет назад +2

      @@moodkapps4346 using some alcohol cleaning solution worked for me, you can get the cans with the spray nozzle so you can get right into it, look for some that's 90% or more

    I already have it on one of my left joy-con for 4 months an it works wonderfully.. The only thing I am noticing is that the whole black plastic rail on both of my left joycons wiggle a bit and it's sometimes disconnecting the joycon from the SWITCH.. and that is a bit frustrating..
