The Special episode getting Sam Home was first broadcast about 7 months before I was born. Peter Sallis was born 1 to 2 years after all my grandparents. This was a great episode of a great show. May all the departed cast and crew rest in peace.

I'm a massive LOTSW fan, and this is one of the most genuine and charming videos I've ever seen. Absolutely love it.

This episode is one of the best, it’s surely bittersweet but it shows a lifelong of friendship and in a crazy way what a lot of us would like to do if we could.

"this episode Getting Sam Home was a special episode shown in movie form
and without a laugh track and I love the scenes of Foggy pretending to be Sam's
corpse in the little building behind the house where Sam and his shrewish wife
lived and the neighbor is out walking his wife's poodle dog and the poodle runs
to the building where Foggy is and the neighbor peeks in and Foggy rises up
dressed as Sam's corpse and scares the neighbor so bad it puts him into a
catatonic state that was very hilarious loved it and i still watch it if it's possible."

I will admit that I first saw Last of the Summer Wine a year after it came to an end. I was used to seeing it as a light-hearted romp, so when I first saw Getting Sam Home, I was slightly taken aback by the eerily bleak atmosphere and thought it was a very peculiar thing for the show to do. After doing some research, I realised that this was an adaptation of the original novel, which was pretty dark anyway. Nowadays, I can appreciate the interior monologues that characters such as Sam and Clegg deliver, and the discussions of life and death. Getting Sam Home is a good way to explore the subtle themes in the show.

Aaahhhhhhh....... gentle English nostalgia..... Each episode of LotSW leaves me with a warm Reddy-Brek glow..... I'd love to grow old disgracefully like the boys.... Sadly the wife won't let me.

Getting Sam Home is the pinacle of LOSW. Great work here can see you both work in media. Fantastic use of the original music too (where did you get that from?) So nostalgic.

This is frustrating as it talks about a film that does not appear to be available on RUclips. I probably saw it at the time but that is nearly 40 years ago.

Does anyone know where the house of Lily Bless Her is. There is a street sign outside the property in the episode that says Sugden Street, but there does not appear to be a Sugden Street in Holmfirth.

I've just finished watching Getting Sam Home. It's not my favourite episode & at 90 mins, for me it was too long.
For me, the pinnacle of LOTSW was Pate and Chips - amazing writing & scene direction.
But thanks. I enjoy these Wino episodes.

But where are these locations. Holmfirth ? Marsden ? I am trying to visit as many locations as I can but this is not really helpful in guiding me to the exact locations. Very disappointing as “ getting Sam home “ was one of my favourite episodes.

Lots of the later episodes were Marsden like auntie wainwrights and the pub they were always at The Riverhead Brewery Tap, notice lots of street scenes there filling in for Holmfirth

It turned up at some point last year, but I think the main reason the three feature length specials are not shown more often is just that they are an awkward length!

I think the no audience in this episode was a big mistake.Only fools and horses tried it with one of their xmas episodes too and it died on its arse...hardly ever repeated.

Getting Sam was my least favourite episode ever...no studio audience laughter left the humour flat and the whole thing was quite morbid and out of character...barely repeated for good reason.Even John Comer was quite ill as it was being produced...a real downer.A location missing was Sam's home from where his corpse was removed...i don't know if you were aware but that was filmed miles and miles away in Almondbury..nowwhere near Holmfirth. That also struck me as very odd.I live opposite a park in Huddersfield and can always remember being awoken one sunday morning to the clanging and knocking of crew cobbling together a camera track for an episode. Then spending the rest of the day watching from my garden Brian Wilde coming in and out of the bushes covered in camoflage twigs and leaves...great actor.
