In possible explanation for why Reaper just chucks his shotguns away and pulls out new ones is that they are made of his cells as he can fully manipulate them to teleport and turn into mist. So it’s not a stretch to say he can create them with his cells, which may explain why whenever he shoots someone with them it heals them.

On the Widow's Kiss, I'd say it's probably similar to Metal Storm. Metal Storm was designed for hyper rapid firing but the same system could also be used to fire effectively a spear of bullets. It's probably a number of electrically fired rounds in each section of the cylinder and, in full auto mode, the weapon fires one round per cylinder section and spins to the next like a Bizon or Calico's helical magazine. Conversely, if firing in single shot, it fires all the rounds in the cylinder section maybe to improve armour-piercing capability and power by having like 5/6 rounds hit approximately the same spot in very quick succession....
With the recent rise in popularity again for Battlefield 1, how likely would it be for Jonathan to see the rest of the guns that were never fielded/extremely rare in WW1?

I'd love to see Jonathan check out Metal Gear Solid 4. That series always was a step ahead of the competition in terms of firearm representation, but for MGS4 they seemed to take pride in how accurately they were modeled, down to the internals
I'm really enjoying the "Firearms Expert Reacts" series. I'd be interested to see Jonathan's reactions to weapons from the newer Deus Ex series (Human Revolution, and Mankind Divided), Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain, as well as other Far Crys (3 - 5)
It’s so fun that someone who doesn’t play the game or know any of the characters is able to contextually fill in some of the details about them from their weapons. Props to the OW art/dev team!
Just a note for Mr Ferguson - mechanical keyboard switches provide both a momentary switch and tactile, mechanical aspect so something like that could easily be repurposed for an electrically actuated firearm. The IBM buckling spring in particular has a nice ramp up on the force as you get closer to the actuation point and a really nice, crisp, clean break. Obviously you'd want to adjust them for the purpose but the principle applies. I can appreciate why it never really took off but still think that casings with an electrical primer sound like a really nice thing for reloaders as the primer doesn't need to be replaced for several hundred shots.
The only explanation i can imagine for the Widow's Kiss is if the Revolver style loader is some kind of Metal Storm piece with several bullets lined up.
4:34 the video gamey element here is that the Viper literally does more damage if you aim down the sights vs if you fire from the hip. Doesn’t make sense since you’re firing the same bullets, but it’s a fudge for the sake of gameplay.
HOW have they not still not presented Receiver 2 to Jonathan to react to is beyond me. That game has hands down some of the most realistic (if not, the most realistic) weapon handling of any game out there. You can manually manipulate the slide of the weapon, hammer, individually load in bullets in the magazine, or load in a bullet in the chamber, there are also realistic jams too. You guys have to get him to see it!
Or there might be some sort of nanites in there that can tell they're being injected into a friendly or unfriendly target and act accordingly. Her grenade shows a splash of purple and yellow like Moira's orbs but I have no idea how the grenades work. All I remember from the lore is that Ana's gun was designed by Torb and Mercy to only heal but Ana modified it so it could also do damage.
I want to bring up a very slight detail that he missed on Cass's Peacekeeper (and in all fairness its not that hard to see why he missed it as you have to slow down the shooting animation to really see it) and that is that it has a slide! In fact functionally Cass's Peacekeeper is closer to a Metabeta 6 Unica revolver than a S&W revolver and is purely the reason I want to own said revolver!
His understanding of video game mechanics balancing und nuances is insane. He makes connections to real weapons for instance with roadhogs weapon i have never thought about. while alson understanding the surrealism and creative freedom of games. Also he quickly understood that Ana is shooting syringes that can damage opponents as well as heal teammated this man is a gem.
The Soldier 76 Fiearm shown in this video is from a skin. His default weapon skin is a very futuristic looking pulse rifle. Actually a few of these are from skins, but mostly look like their default look. The Soldier 76 one is *very* different.
I'd love to see Johnathan react to the firearms of any of the Half-life games, or the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise, I wonder his take and opinion on the fictional/scientific guns of those series. Edit: Yes, I'm including Opposing Force too. The Gearbox expansions deserve more love!
i like that he understood that its a game and enjoyed how out there it was, in many "expert react" vidoes they seem to dump on the games for not being realistic enough
I would love for Johnathan to review guns from the space themed FPS Boundary once the game is out, the team behind it put a lot of effort into making realistic firearms that would operate in space.
I can’t believe I didn’t think until now how the ADS firing type change could work by when your eye presses against the back of the scope it changes the special ammo it takes in a more solid set or automatically changes the firing type.
I would love to see members of the OW design team who made these gun react to his reaction, and tell us if he got some of these intuitions right/where they got the inspo for these designs.
I think it would be fun to have a look at the weapons of Splatoon 3. Jon was such a good sport about it last time, and there’s a lot of weapon types that he didn’t cover in that video
Specific weapons I would like to see him review: Aerospray, Jet Squelcher, Bamboozler, E-Liter, Glooga Dualies, Undercover Brella, Tri-Stringer, Splatana Wiper/Stamper, etc.
Given his reaction to the rocket launcher seeing his reaction to the Unreal Tournament 2004 rocket launcher would be interesting. Also the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series would be a good one to look at, some real world weapons and some sci-if weapons.
Very interesting! Would have loved to hear his thoughts on the ammo-counter headsup display on guns like Sombras "machinepistol", which shows your remaining ammo in hexadecimal - have something like that ever been attempted irl?
Could you please take a look at Warhammer 40.000: Darktide's guns? I have long thought that the most common lasguns' design is based on the FAL, the autogun seen reminds me of the M3 grease-gun, and the semi-auto-with-a-pump action of the shotgun is like the SPAS-12.
would be fun to check out some of the borderlands guns. esp some of the legendary weapons have interesting effects on it, not to mention the Tediore reload from 2
So for those that don't know: the bottom barrel for Reaper's shotgun's isn't for the "primary" shotgun spread. Rather it's a leftover detail from VERY early Reaper, who was supposed to have a grenade launcher. While this launcher never made it into the game, it can be seen in the initial cinematic reveal for Overwatch. Why the barrel remain to this day, I have no clue. Blizzard hasn't actively said anything on them, and they might be left in just as an Easter Egg, or may/will have a use later (like in PvE).
The bullets on the buttstock of that Lever-action are a concern - at least from a realisim point of view - in that they're pointed! Obviously the Spitzer-style bullets are potentially subject to a chain-reaction in the feeding tube, with the exception of rounds like the "Leverevolution".
Nice detail catch there. The other semi-exception is the Lebel bolt-action with its annular groove in the head of the case to accommodate the point of the bullet behind.
Man if it's ever possible I'd love for him to come back and look at some of the other overwatch weapons, would be interesting to see his reaction to stuff like hammonds lmgs or torbjorns rivet gun
5:27 looks like a break open revolver to me, what with the stuff ahead of the trigger guard that looks like it is a pivot point, and the stylized top strap. But then it's got a swing out cylinder, and a hammer that only goes back after a shot is fired, like it's a slide... The Peacekeeper seems a bit confused. XD 14:39 dat length of pull
Metal Storm also produced 36-barreled stacked projectile volley gun boasting the highest rate of fire in the world, just over 1 million rounds per minute. A minigun with a belt of separate firing chambers also exists. Multi-shot Accessory Under-barrel Launcher (MAUL) is an electronically fired, 12-gauge shotgun for use as an accessory weapon to a range of weapons. A pity that they folded up in 2012.
The last widow maker gun i think is more like a coil gun paired with a conventional gun. Basically when youre hip firing its just firing conventional bullets, but ADS you engage the coil mechanic and adds power to your bullets along with its conventional gunpowder. Thats why theres a charge meter
If he feels like doing something "stylized" again, I'd really like to see some Deep Rock Galactic weapons, if only for the little tricks with the reload key when the gun is full.
John has to review all the default skin variations of the weapons and just different skin based weapon variations for the guns. Like soldier has 10 different looking rifle types.
the reason the revolvers hammer in game dosent move before firing is just because in game people like to fire a bullet when they click so waiting even a 10th of a second for the hammer to slam forwards then firing the bullet dosent feel responsive enough in a fast paced multiplayer game. a lot of games seem to suffer this when implementing revolvers because its so visual in the way it works. having that bit of realisim might cause players to drift away from the character so instead they choose to set the hammer to be reactive instead of acting on the bullet, hence the "flapping about" amazing video btw this was really interesting.
The thing is that the peacekeeper and the Viper are for the characters Cassity and ashe which Are outlaws from the wild west. And when the fact is brought that there are wanted posters after her she isn’t even phased. And yes the rocket launcher is used by an Egyptian
I wish I could’ve reached out to tell you that Baptiste who’s gun fires tradition bullets plus a grenade launcher has healing grenades, so that changes the whole purpose of the gun and makes it a bit more practical.
3:00 might look into photography leaf shutter releases, which are electric and designed to disturb the camera as little as possible, so it exists conceptually.
Fun fact - the Armouries used to have a Keeper of Weapons and a Keeper of Armour rather than a Keeper of Firearms & Artillery and one for Edged Weapons & Armour.
I love that he knows how flywheel nerf guns work
We might have given him one recently for an upcoming project...

You can manually manipulate the slide of the weapon, hammer, individually load in bullets in the magazine, or load in a bullet in the chamber, there are also realistic jams too. You guys have to get him to see it!
2:34 - Apparently, its a gameplay thing only because in lore Ana switches between healing and killing rounds whenever she needs it

A nice detail on Sombras mp7 copy, is that the ammunition counter is in hexadecimal
Reinhardt's massive warhammer shooting fireballs from its end also qualifies as a gun! Or projectile launcher! Or ranged weaponry!

Do SAO Fatal Bullet and COD Advanced Warfare
I want to bring up a very slight detail that he missed on Cass's Peacekeeper (and in all fairness its not that hard to see why he missed it as you have to slow down the shooting animation to really see it) and that is that it has a slide! In fact functionally Cass's Peacekeeper is closer to a Metabeta 6 Unica revolver than a S&W revolver and is purely the reason I want to own said revolver!
I love how the timestamps are named after the weapons not the characters using them.
Another good showing!
Going to do Darktide on release week?
If I can unlock enough different weapons to show off we will certainly be showing JF some more 40k stuff!

When Ashe fires the lever action at the hip, she’s just really good with the lever. It’s just really good handwork.
I love these sorts of videos. I would love to see Jonathan react to the guns of Deep Rock Galactic.

Did I hear a rock and stone?
@@gman8133 ROCK! AND! STONE!
I can’t believe I didn’t think until now how the ADS firing type change could work by when your eye presses against the back of the scope it changes the special ammo it takes in a more solid set or automatically changes the firing type.
Would love to see the guns from Warframe. For being a 3rd person game, I'm always surprised by how intricate the weapon animations and mechanisms are.

Fun fact for new players to overwatch, Cassidy's skins also change the Tumbleweed in his ult such as the Summer Skin making it a beach ball :)
Would love to see Jonathan react to the guns that the dwarves use in Deep Rock Galactic! Can I get a Rock and Stone!

Really want a part 2 to this, wanna see his reaction to stuff like what Lucio and Orisa carry!!!
I would love to see members of the OW design team who made these gun react to his reaction, and tell us if he got some of these intuitions right/where they got the inspo for these designs.
That would be neat, but they're probably busy making more 20 dollar skins...
@@Goldy01 indeed. blizzard management are so inept.

I'd be almost OBSCENELY happy to see a Division 2 firearm expert reacts episode!
would be fun to check out some of the borderlands guns. esp some of the legendary weapons have interesting effects on it, not to mention the Tediore reload from 2
Now we need him to look at Rein’s hammer!
I would love to see Johnathan look at the guns from phantom forces.
That part where he explained how Junkrat's weapon works is amazing, i didn't realise the tire at all hahhaa
I would love to see jonathan reacting to battlefield 1 weapons
He already has :P .
@@jonathanferguson1211 that's one I didn't know about - but that's why you have your Job. Thank you for all the content :)
Man if it's ever possible I'd love for him to come back and look at some of the other overwatch weapons, would be interesting to see his reaction to stuff like hammonds lmgs or torbjorns rivet gun
Vermintide 2 black powder weapons please.
XD
14:39 dat length of pull

I'd love to see reactions to some of the ranged weapons of Elden Ring, or maybe Bloodborne guns
I'm surprised he didn't mention how much the Pulse Rifle resembles the USAS12 shotgun. Seems there's at least some visual inspiration there.
His name is Jonathan
What gun is Moiras based on irl?
the reason the revolvers hammer in game dosent move before firing is just because in game people like to fire a bullet when they click so waiting even a 10th of a second for the hammer to slam forwards then firing the bullet dosent feel responsive enough in a fast paced multiplayer game. a lot of games seem to suffer this when implementing revolvers because its so visual in the way it works. having that bit of realisim might cause players to drift away from the character so instead they choose to set the hammer to be reactive instead of acting on the bullet, hence the "flapping about" amazing video btw this was really interesting.
I would like to see how he reacts to the guns of Deep Rock Galactic. I feel like it would be similar to this video
The thing is that the peacekeeper and the Viper are for the characters Cassity and ashe which Are outlaws from the wild west.
And when the fact is brought that there are wanted posters after her she isn’t even phased.
And yes the rocket launcher is used by an Egyptian
Yes! Another ghost shirt 🤘🏻
If you have ghosttttssss
Love the profile pic too :)
I wish I could’ve reached out to tell you that Baptiste who’s gun fires tradition bullets plus a grenade launcher has healing grenades, so that changes the whole purpose of the gun and makes it a bit more practical.
would love to see how johnathan reacts to DRGs weird guns lol
3:00 might look into photography leaf shutter releases, which are electric and designed to disturb the camera as little as possible, so it exists conceptually.
Okay lets see what weapons our favorite weapons keeper have to react today.
Fun fact - the Armouries used to have a Keeper of Weapons and a Keeper of Armour rather than a Keeper of Firearms & Artillery and one for Edged Weapons & Armour.
One thing to point out from Ashe's rifle is that the ammo used is pointed but because it is tube fed, the ammo should be rounded off.
