I actually never heard this song until Sonic Mania, and I thought it was a weirdly badass track. Now I get it though, it’s a damn Final Boss track! No wonder it rocks.
Well, it's not as if Nintendo didn't do the same with Puyo Puyo Literally when Puyo Puyo was brought into America both systems made their reskins to have appeal to western audiences, the Genesis/MegaDrive got Mean Bean Machine, and the SNES also got its reskin, that was Kirby's Avalanche
I love how 15th Anniversary got the perfect balance between doing the original track again but still being it's own thing. I can easily listen to and enjoy both the original and the modernized version.
In Puyo Puyo, youre fighting Satan himself, the big bad. In Mean Bean, you face a much more harrowing battle: your friend from school, and to up the stakes even higher, whoever wins gets the last coca-cola
Gotta love how you didn't need to include the Genesis version. Like the game itself, it's the closest thing to the original game. The FNF song as the ending was a nice touch too.
Kinda crazy that they made a whole version of Puyo Puyo as a Boss fight for Sonic Mania! What a love letter to the fans that game was! Would have been cool if the game could have been an unlockable bonus to be able to play it whenever you want from the Main Menu!
3:18 I will always say that the PuyoPuyo 15th Anniversary version is the definitive remix of the song (I feel like the DS version sounds more like Starfy's style)
