The more lines you clear in a row, the more garbage each new line you clear will send. After a few lines, the scaling gets comical and caps at one line sending a bit more than a base Tetris. Leaving a four-wide gap in the centre or side of the board is the easiest and most efficient way to clear a whole lot of singles, and even an alright four-wide will game end pretty much anyone. The biggest problem, other than the ease of use, is that it all but requires the "victim" to do the same thing back, turning the game into a game of whose better at four-wide, instead of whose better at the game. If they are playing puyo, unless they're a god gamer, they just cry a little inside. TL;DR: Four-wideing is very easy and powerful, and over centralizes the meta, as dumb as that sounds. I played Puyo Puyo Summer on PS1 and all i can say is that, nothing is more terrifying than seeing a Puyo player methodically filling an entire screen.

4-wide is good but requires too much rng. Top puyo players will already out chain you before you can get it setup properly. Then again, you can still beat 90%~ of the online players :/
As an experiment, I set up my Tetris playfield to look very similar to the one in this video, and it's interesting in that every single possible tetris piece can be used to clear a line, and the following pieces after can be used to a similar effect. So... This seems to be a very intentional formation to make it easy to rack up a huge line clearing combo, which appears to be a highly beneficial strategy for this particular game.

See, here's why an experienced tetris can execute any puyo with enough skill: a tetris can move indefinitely, even with no space, as long as they're fast enough and make the combos happen. Unlike a puyo, who will die immediately upon getting bricked with a massive penalty, a tetris can continue to play competitively while in a position that seems to be past the point of no return, or even beyond the grave.

This video is what got me interested in tetris. I remember when i frist saw this video in 2019. i tried finding the title of the game. I played the demo and I loved it. Tetris has become one of my favorite things to do and i now have a 40 L sprint time of 40 seconds. Thanks Doremy, for your videos and for introducing me to modern tetris!

It's hard to say it's an outright disadvantage. High level Tetris players absolutely smash even the best Puyo players. Theoretically your game should be balanced around the highest level of play.
My Mom used to be this skilled at Tetris. It's something that is still a mystery to me to this very day. I'm sure if she was still as well coordinated as she was when she was younger, she'd have become a hardcore gamer.
The thing that makes it unfair is that Puyo combos fill the Tetris player from the bottom, while the Tetris combos fill the Puyo player from the top. The Tetris player still has access to the work surface and can make lines to clear it, but as you see, the Puyo player gets their work surface buried where no play can make matches. I mean, that and 4wide as a concept existing.

See, here's why an experienced tetris can execute any puyo with enough skill: a tetris can move indefinitely, even with no space, as long as they're fast enough and make the combos happen. Unlike a puyo, who will die immediately upon getting bricked with a massive penalty, a tetris can continue to play competitively while in a position that seems to be past the point of no return, or even beyond the grave.

This video is what got me interested in tetris. I remember when i frist saw this video in 2019. i tried finding the title of the game. I played the demo and I loved it. Tetris has become one of my favorite things to do and i now have a 40 L sprint time of 40 seconds. Thanks Doremy, for your videos and for introducing me to modern tetris!

doremy the tetris player was doing an 4-wide stack(do two stacks separed by an hole of 4 blocks wide)
the puyo puyo bot did an combo that atacked the tetris player
when attacked the tetris player recieves Lines of blocks that push his stack up but even after it he did an great combo that made that grey blocks rain

It's hard to say it's an outright disadvantage. High level Tetris players absolutely smash even the best Puyo players. Theoretically your game should be balanced around the highest level of play.
Center 4-wides aren't that hard.

My Mom used to be this skilled at Tetris. It's something that is still a mystery to me to this very day. I'm sure if she was still as well coordinated as she was when she was younger, she'd have become a hardcore gamer.

The thing that makes it unfair is that Puyo combos fill the Tetris player from the bottom, while the Tetris combos fill the Puyo player from the top.
The Tetris player still has access to the work surface and can make lines to clear it,
but as you see, the Puyo player gets their work surface buried where no play can make matches.
I mean, that and 4wide as a concept existing.
