It crushes me that this game is only on Apple Arcade. Would love to finally be able to play a Puyo Puyo game since I barely have access to anything past Puyo Puyo Quest. I could play Quest, and have but, in constradt with other JP only titles... Being out of the loop on what's going on in game due to the language barrier throws me off just enough that I just stop playing... Would emulate other Puyo titles if I could, but I can almost never get emulators to work for me so... Would have been nice, but oh well. I'm honestly just glad that we have a new, localized Puyo Puyo game.
As someone that has been playing Quest on and off since launch, it's so rough coming back after breaks. Thank goodness for the Puyo Nexus Wiki and all the work Hisashi/his team do to keep everything up to date with current events. It's a shame it took this long for the series to step out of Japan, but hopefully it's here to stay now... Let's just work on the whole "exclusive" part!
There's a likelihood that it eventually leaves exclusivity. A lot of Apple Arcade exclusive things leave it. For example Exit The Gungepn, the pinball wizard and probably a bunch of other ones as well.
Great video! Thank you for putting out such a good, comprehensive overview of the game, it is really needed! On the dead online mode, I am afraid that's entirely down to how bad it feels to play on the Apple Arcade Online servers. Even with the best connection, ping is through the roof and everything stutters. It's noticable that the online Mode in PuyoTet2 has actually gotten a big boost in activity (and it was already active before) in the Puyo Tsuu mode after Puzzle Pop released. It feels like this isn't an issue of a lack of players, but players trying the online mode, barely being able to get it to work, and just immediately going back to Switch for VS play instead... This NEEDS to be fixed, badly.
Thanks for watching! That would make sense, I actually recorded the Champions footage in this video during the release week of Puzzle Pop and it was also very active. I do think the issue resides on Apple's end and I imagine the issue is exacerbated due to the amount of devices restricted to wireless. It's a bummer because I love playing Fever and would of loved a change of scenery, but I guess I'll have to stick with Champions...
I honestly don't think any software patch could make a difference here. Only 2000 players even registered on the leaderboard tells me that's it's not just a matter of people trying it and bouncing off, but that very few people have ever tried it to begin with. I don't think this game will ever get enough of a critical mass of players to sustain an active matchmaking pool. Not while it's exclusive to Apple Arcade. This is why I keep hammering on the importance of crossplay. All this time I've really been trying to say that Sega's release strategy has divided up the playerbase too much, and this further exacerbates that problem. I keep asking for One Definitive Game With Crossplay, because that way we would have a much healthier online queue, not to mention tournament scene.
@@missingno_fgc I agree, I don't see this growing much further either. I do think the inclusion of bots itself interesting, perhaps SEGA didn't anticipate a competitive scene around this game to begin with. The casual player is unlikely to go online and unless you're playing with a controller, you're at a disadvantage using touch controls as well. Maybe it's just included as a courtesy? Here's hoping if Puzzle Pop gets a console port or the next console Puyo game does get the online right.
I just hate that after 4 years, the new puyo game that's solely about puyo is not only locked behind an OS and a specific set of systems, but it's also behind a monthly paywall. I just don't get it with SEGA.
"It's not as funny as PuyoTet1 and 2" I'm afraid that's entirely down to the localization. I've played in Japanese and uh. The translation of the side-stories especially was rushed and several really good jokes were just entirely lost in the process. Generally, this game is less comedy-focused in the main story than Tet1 and Tet2 were, but the side-stories are even funnier than those two games in my opinion. The problem is that the clearly rushed localization destroys a lot of the jokes. I hope this gets fixed down the line, but the huge amounts of voice acting that would need to be redone for that make me doubtful.
That's a bummer, but it wouldn't surprise me. A lot of the dialogue doesn't actually match with what the actors were saying, often with the actors adding more personality than what is actually displayed. Seeing as they didn't fix PPT2's chain voices, I'm not holding my breath! 😔
With Sega not only adding more content to the story mode, but adding entirely new game modes in these updates, it’s clear that they want more out of this game. It’s entirely possible that, given enough time, resources, and care, Puzzle Pop could become the definitive Puyo game for the west. Which is crazy to say about a mobile game of all things. Too bad it’s locked to a subscription service for the time being…
I think you're right, in one of the interviews, one of the developers mentioned he's going all out for future updates and wants a night/day difference looking back when the updates are complete. I think there's more going on here than we know, at least hopefully...
I love how accessible you make the video. I've only played puyo puyo tetris for a short time, and knowing a lot about tetris, I loved to learn more about the other half of that game
I'm glad you watched anyways! When I write videos, I try to be as inclusive as possible for newbies. That said, I do feel a bit guilty for not explaining what Puyo is...though I figured most people watching would understand that it's a puzzle game.
It crushes me to know that Puyo's future may hinge on this one title I don't have the ability to play. As someone that got into the series heavily due to Tetris (I've gone back to play the majority of the past games, using english patches for those that weren't properly brought over here), I'd give so much to have those past games brought over in an official capacity. That said, I really hope more people enjoy this! If I ever get a chance to, I'll definitely do so!
They stopped using Lip and friends after Nintendo Puzzle Collection, which was a JP exclusive Gamecube title...which we later found out was the scrapped N64 Panel de Pon, which was then later converted into Pokemon Puzzle League. All games after this point used generic Puzzle League branding or Animal Crossing. Basically, the game has no identity anymore!
@@mchaosg I once joked about rebooting the fairies with an EDM + Frutiger Metro-aesthetic as seen in Planet Puzzle League - but as time goes on I'm kinda warning up to that kinda take more and more... But in all realness, bring back the fairies, we at least have Nintendo Switch Online's PDP-release as a good basis for widespread awareness of them thess days!
17:38 "Which is just as busted as it sounds" If you play Yo~n that's just a normal day. You make a 7 chain for their super attacks to get rid of *literally every single garbage puyo* you sent to them. And then they kill you seconds later.
Well, Samba de Amigo did release a new game on Switch under the name Samba de Amigo Party Central, so maybe this game or a very similar Puyo Puyo game under a different name will show up at some point.
fantasian (a jrpg by the people who made Lost Odyssey) recently publishes it to other platforms after being an Arcade exclusive for a number of years While this is extremely optimistic it would be great if sega took the apple money as a way to update the models, uis, etc either to later republish it or reduce the cost of a separate standalone title with the same assets Cuz i agree, it looks great and the color palette is so vibrant. Tons of charm
Considering the sonic one was pocket sized, I don't know how to feel about this being comparable content wise to Puyo Tetris lmao Like, I have an Ipad, but I'd gladly pay for this. I hope they do a Shantae and this leaves for multiplat eventually
This is kind of a bigger issue I feel like SEGA has, but I just feel like it’s really annoying that every IP they have keeps getting put behind this gate of “You gotta buy this game or you can say goodbye to this IP for another 10,000 years of darkness!” Like I get they need to measure interest but it’s like… the amount of interest in these games never mattered to them before… like idk how many posts I saw asking for ports of chronicles, or video essays about SMB. At the end of the day it is what it is now ig but it’s certainly not giving SEGA any brownie points from me. I’ll save those for when they make good on their promises lmao
I don't like being guilted into supporting products either, it's a really gross PR tactic and it's not just SEGA either. I understand you gotta follow the money, but there has to be a better way of expressing that.
8:42 Wait, Apple TV is just an Amazon Fire Stick? I also thought it was an actual TV this whole time, now there's a world where I might actually have a chance to play this game
@@mchaosg Thre's an app by the same name on non-Apple devices??? How did Apple manage to conjure a naming scheme as bad as "Macbook Pro -> Macbook Pro -> Macbook Pro"
Great video. No one has been talking about this game (which kinda scares me on how well its doing) so I'm glad to see such a well done deep dive of it. I also don't know if I agree that Sega is AA instead of AAA because we have the Like A Dragon/Yakuza series and everything Atlus makes. But I guess RGG and Atlus are treated as their own thing even by Sega themselves so I guess you're not technically wrong.
Yeah, I do recognize Atlus and RGG, that's why I said SEGA specifically as a developer. I guess in hindsight, I could of just referred to Sonic Team directly...anywho, thanks for watching!
I don't know how you feel about this but I also heard that Puyo Puyo's mother series (Madou Monogatari) is getting another game made by the original company that created the series, Compile (Now Compile Heart). I think they really want to expand the franchise and even bring back old series that they had. So I am hoping this franchise/IP does well because I just adore all the characters and the lore (especially the Madou Monogatari lore) and want to see more of it.
I think it's great! I've only played an hour of the first game on the mega drive, it's interesting but games like madou are the antithesis of my abilities. I struggle with puzzles and cryptic objectives, but I totally recognize that it's my fault. That said, maybe a more modern entry would be a better entry point for me. I'm looking forward to learning more about it.
The most damning indictment of this game is the fact that not a single person is playing it online. Actually, no, that's the second most damning. The most damning is the fact that Sega evidently knew this was gonna happen and just tried to cover it up with bots. I've been saying for years that the most important thing Sega needs to do is crossplay. The playerbase has gotten too divided because we don't just have one proper definitive game for everyone, and that's the only way to undo the damage. But after all these years, we got this instead, and now nobody is playing it.
"I no longer think of Sega as a AAA studio, mostly because they've gotten into the habit of recycling content" ...What AAA studios have you been watching?
I did say mostly! The point is that they no longer have the ability to produce wholly original content. A studio with a larger size/budget could, but yes even AAA studios recycle content as well.
The preservation efforts for this game are going to be messy, hopefully SEGA will spare us the effort and port it eventually. Then we can pay up front!
It actually surprised me how many people are completely unable to play this game, but then I realized that there’s no way to play at all unless you have an apple device. I hope this game gets a port in the future or something
It feels silly, especially these days - we've made a lot of strides in allowing things like cross platform online and now we're regressing on that kind of progress. Future ports aren't out of the question though, it's just a matter of when...
Great video! I think I’m all caught up now. but the thing where the future of the series might rely on this game reminds me of when Sega kinda did the same thing with monkey ball Banana Blitz HD.
Honestly it's so weird not getting an actually Puyo Puyo game like this on consoles and PC anymore. It seems like the Puyo Puyo Tetris series pretty much took over, which is a neat concept for sure, but where's a game solely focused on Puyo Puyo, that's not an eSports focused game like Puyo Puyo Champions?
If only this had released on android too 😔 I'd have loved to have an actual mobile puyo game (quest doesn't count) And it also looks perfect for consoles and pc too, hopefully they port it someday
Unfortunately, this game cannot be ported to any other mobile platform but consoles are a grey area...so hopefully! The UI for this game is more well suited for console than mobile, which is definitely suspicious when compared to other Apple Arcade titles.
@@mchaosg rip I hate apple with a burning passion so I won't be playing the game anytime soon But if we at least get a console release then we're golden. Hopium🙏
They will probably release this on the switch (or whatever comes after)in a year or two alongside other apple arcade exclusives, sonic dream team also feels like a low budget console release rather than a mobile game, also some apple arcade exclusives have been launched on consoles already after a few years so i imagine thats whats going on here. Sega loooves re-releasing stuff and making you pay full price again if they can so...
Seeing as PPT was a Switch launch title, I wouldn't be surprised if the next Puyo game is a launch title for the successor and pulls resources from this game.
I love how the series is slowly growing in the West, where Sega is trying new things. I understand why previous Puyo games were never released back then, either due to sales, theme, or the setting of magical girls. But demographics have changed over the years. To be honest, Sega should have released Quest outside of Japan since gacha games do great with mobile users.
Guess I'm sticking to Puyo Puyo Tetris 2. I even bought an Apple TV second hand which was extremely cheap, so I have the tools to play it. But a dead online service just doesn't give me any incentive.
It's a shame, I wanted to play fever online again! Like sure, I can still play Champions but a new coat of paint would have been nice. Hopefully it improves as time goes on...
Thank goodness this popped up in my recommended. I bought a sub to play Sonic Dream Team but haven't done much else on it. It's been a long time since I played Puyo Puyo so I'll definitely check this one out. Thanks! And this was a great video too! Gonna sub and keep an eye out for future videos.
I played it because i wanted a puzzle game with more to it than just the puzzle stuff at least this has lovable characthers and a story to keep me invested
I'm not exactly a puyo fan, I just bought PPT2 and remembered playing back when on the Mega Drive, but damn I really wish SEGA could find space for Columns in that franchise
17:30 I thought they were Clear Beans, but since Puyo Puyo Tetris, the Clear Beans lost their transparency effects, meaning that the players cannot look at the background through those garbage beans.
Curiously, when my Apple Arcade expired, I ended up buying Puyo Puyo Tetris on my Switch BECAUSE of Puyo Puyo, so anecdotally it could work. (I've literally got Apple Arcade exclusively for Sonic Dreams Team.)
So I don't daily-drive Apple anymore, but I still keep a device around just for that odd moment I need it (unfortunately, some of my older purchases keep me with one foot in the Apple ecosystem). So I can get Apple Arcade, but I still don't want to since I'm not a fan of subscription services. But now this is at least the second game I want to try that's stuck on Apple Arcade, the other being Taiko no Tatsujin. Just a shame that I still can't justify paying $7/month just to be able to play two games. I wish Apple had a "pay once, keep long-term" option for its Arcade titles, or better yet, these games were on other platforms. I'd snag them in a heartbeat if I could be assured I'd still have them years later.
man they should port this game to pc it would make this game be way more available. im still internally coping and seething about it bc im an android user and mainly play games on pc the only english purely puyo games available on modern consoles are puyo 1, 2 and champions and puyo 1 and 2 are locked behind a subscription. and champions is only for competitive play... overseas fans are getting crumbs rn fr
this game looks like sega put a good amt of effort into it! the returning modes, the redone chronicle models, the visuals, the customization, all of that. which only makes me more frustrated due to its exclusivity! im REALLY hoping the "future of the series" comment is just pr talk like u said it might be but if it actually is then idk what to say to that prospect. puyo fans have suffered enough, man
Im not gonna lie, for the past 12-14 years Ive played Puyo, I dont blame people for being mad at the game. Ive seen the gameplay itself and I was so disappointed. I mean, if other people like it, thats perfectly fine! However, I feel like relying on this game for future releases is... interesting to say the least..We'll see how it goes. Also hi tucker!
I love watching Puyo Puyo, but good god, I literally cannot play it. And I do mean literally in the actual literal sense. Playing it gives me physical headaches. I understand the game in theory, I get how it works and I was able to complete the lessons and the Story mode in PPT2, but the moment I tried to go for it by itself or, god forbid, go against other players, I just broke. Watching others play Puyo is a blast, though. I really, really hope we can get more Puyo single-player, and on platforms that most people can, y'know, ACCESS.
It's a lot of pattern recognition, I'm actually just replicating an existing pattern (stairs, sandwich, gtr, etc.) if that makes any sense to you. My third puyo eye was opened when I started playing that way versus overthinking if a chain worked on the fly.
@@mchaosg Oh for sure, I definitely tried things like that. I mean, PPT2 tries to teach you that stuff itself (though not the best, I definitely looked to external sources as well). I definitely get the Theory of it, the problem comes with trying to apply what I've learned XD I imagine it would be something I'd understand in time, but considering it causes me physical pain, I figure it's best not to push it. It's still a lot of fun to watch others play, at least.
This was a huge great video and planning to get me one of those Roku once I save enough. cause I do wanna give Puzzle Pop a whirl. I do find the story and the game it self really fun!
dont tell me its going to be another sonic dream team situation. on this same note, if theres one thing ive learned over the years, its that people hate apple, people hate exclusivity, and people hate subscriptions, and that causes so many people to harshly and unfairly judge the titles on apple arcade, or even the service itself, without even trying it (theres a free trial guys! jut try the ones that look fun!) also ye, i am one of the 10%, and im loving my time with it! that note of the titles feeling like shovelware iffed me, you very likley picked a bad bunch (what titles did you pick? im curious.) if you want i can give you some reccomendations that are truly outstanding on apple arcade. also if you want, im up for learning how to puyo puyo really well, im already great at tetris so im up for something new.
@@mchaosg sure, my top Arcade games are Rayman mini, a beautiful and tough auto runner. Grindstone, a fun puzzle game with an artstyle that feels like it belongs on CN. Standard Wild Hearts, a really fast auto runner with a heartful story to boot Bleak sword, simple to control yet tough hack and slash. Angry Birds Reloaded: an angry birds game with classic and original levels! Fantaisan, Apple Arcade’s final fantasy Finity, simple puzzle game Jelly car worlds, a 2d driver where everything is soft body physics Wonderbox, 3D adventure game maker Shovel knight dig, it’s shovel knight Exit the Gungeon, a fun 2D bullet hell rouge like Monomals, a fun mixture of Kirby, splatoon, and water levels where every level you beat gets you a insturment for the music maker And altos odyssey: the lost city, an auto runner with a focus on speed and flow.
It just makes me sad that the already small fanbase of Puyo in the west keeps being divided up further by device. Like, it literally made no sense that Puyo Puyo Tetris 1 & 2 and Champions didn't have crossplay, for example. So PC players can't play with Switch players, dividing the players up by console. This takes that even further; who actually has Apple Arcade? Lol. From all I've seen in your review here, the game does seem decent enough, but absolutely not worth going out of your way to get both an Apple Device, and a service subscription just to play it. It's simple things that Sega always seems to mess up these days (lack of crossplay, polish problems, etc.) and not even the core games.
Yeah, we definitely need crossplay on the next console Puyo Puyo game. If SEGA intends to keep growing the competitive scene, then it's long overdue. Also TamerKoh!! We used to play Fever a lot on Puyo Puyo VS 2, do you remember me? I would go by mchaosg on there. I always thought you were one of the best players!
I want to join the Puyo Puyo fanbase, and i really like the games, but the only way i can play it, is the Demo for Puyo Puyo tetris, and when they say there is an Apple only game that i can't get because, My brothers apple tv doesn't work, and i can't get a subscription, i really don't feel bothered to join such a great fanbase
Just a not long while after my iPhone 7 died and I switched to an Android, Puzzle Pop happened... Although I can of course utilize my mom's MacBook for this or get cheap Hackintosh hardware only to get new Puyo game the fact that it's Apple Arcade exclusive still stings me. It even became the reason that I tried my hands on Unity reverse engineering...
If you want to play good games here are some: Sonic dream team Hello kitty Island adventure Tamagotchi adventure kingdom Sasquatch What the Car and What the golf Beast Jetpack joyride 2 Crossy castle Subway surfer tag Spyder Stitch: coming to consoles already Angry birds reloaded Bleak sword: I think came to consoles Rayman mini Super leap day Tmnt splinter fate: came to consoles Cut the rope 3 SpongeBob party pursuit Keep in mind that some fit perfectly on mobile then playing on tv.
I'm glad that I opted to pick up an Apple TV box to play Sonic Dream Team, considering Sega seems keen to continue these Apple Arcade releases. I'm really conflicted about Apple Arcade in general, however... On one hand, I appreciate the fact that Apple Arcade games are much closer to *actual games*, without any of the typical scummy mobile game tactics like gacha mechanics or overpriced microtransactions. As well, I also like that it gives companies an excuse to make "smaller scale" titles that they might not be able to justify making for the bigger consoles. In a way, it reminds me of the mentality companies used to have surrounding older gaming handhelds. And Apple is seemingly the one pumping all the money into this to make these games happen, so perhaps Puzzle Pop wouldn't have existed were it not for Apple Arcade... but, obviously, on the other hand the complete lack of permanence that these games have is terrible. Sega has already made and delisted their Apple Arcade-exclusive Chu Chu Rocket, and they've been radio silent on porting it. So I can't help but worry about the same thing happening to their other Apple Arcade titles. Not to mention the fact that the service itself will almost certainly not last forever in any case. At the very least, it seems like Apple Arcade games funded by Apple themselves aren't necessarily permanently barred from being ported, as there are examples of AA games making it to other systems, such as the TMNT game that was recently shown at the Nintendo Indie World presentation. Whether or not games like Sonic Dream Team or Puyo Puyo will get ported to other systems, seems like it'll come down to how Sega feels about it... Which is never encouraging. Well, at any rate, throwing all that context aside I really love Puzzle Pop. It almost feels like compensation for Puyo Puyo Chronicle never making it over here. Just having a new Puyo game with a fresh UI and (kinda) fresh style all-around feels great.
I agree, it's nice not having to worry about microtransactions and I will commend Apple for enforcing that. The Chu Chu Rocket stuff does worry me, however. Hopefully Puyo does not suffer the same fate...
He's called "Dark Prince" in Japanese too. The difference is that the Japanese treats "Dark Prince" as his title and "Satan" as his given name. In English he just doesn't use his given name at all.
It’s sad to see this knowing one of my favorite titles could be dying fast because of what they realeased this game on and funnily enough if it wasn’t Apple Arcade exclusive the playerbase would be exponentially higher
The problem is SEGA from the 80s to early 00st was gutted 20 years ago. Sammy is the company equivalent of a skinwalker. Unfortunately, it's become a common practice throughout the industry with no sign of stopping.
It's a shame, but enough failure will do that to a company. It's crazy to think about much SEGA pushed the industry forward, only to be their detriment. Hopefully they make a comeback before they bought out.
It's such a shame, even just releasing crossplay on android and normal ios would have been better. I'd love to play but it's like I don't even have an ios device let alone apple arcade, and I'm not buying an apple product just to play puyo. They're either happy with the money from apple or they're that out of touch and are intentionally killing the game
A cursory glance at the other titles on Apple Arcade suggests to me that this is a platform for quick fix type games rather than substantial console games; somewhere in the space between mobile and console gaming, so I get the feeling that even if this playerbase gets roped into this kinda game, they certainly won't delve into all its content. Unless they port this game to other platforms I feel like the story and assets are going to waste, and the lore payoffs and fine-tuned characterization will go underappreciated.
Mobile games would be more respected if they relied less on gacha to be honest, and I say that as a avid player of gacha games since(no I don't spend money on them, never will) I feel like puzzle pop suffers from the stigma of being on apple arcade in the same way many other great mobile gacha games suffer from being associated with their greedy cousins riddled with bad microtransactions.
I am devastated that they are going to kill a beloved franchise of theirs like this for absolutely no reason and then pretend that they tried to give it a chance. This is just Chibi Robo all over again. I loved Puyo Pop Fever back on the GameCube, I always wanted Puyo Puyo Fever 2 and the anniversary games to come to the West. But they never did. I wish I could play this, but I have a Samsung. 😢
I don't know about kill, but it definitely hurts future prospects for the series overseas. I love Chibi-Robo too, it's a shame we never got the DS game with the grown-up Jenny. Her son even looks like Maguro!
@mchaosg Yes, it's just like the west also not getting Mother 3. Nintendo makes such bad decisions with some series they don't care about even though they could have made them big franchises as well if they just put the effort in.
It really bothers me not only that the game is exclusive on a niche platform, not only does it bother me that they abuse the amnesia thing... again, but also that parts of the lore are developed in this title... and not in a mainline game on consoles/PC. I hope it comes out on other platforms in the future.
You claim early on in the video that Puyo Puyo is a big deal in Japan, before claiming its appearance on Apple Arcade is “not a big deal”. It clearly is a big deal - Apple is trying to use Puyo Puyo to grow subscriptions and engagement with the service in the Japanese market, which is one of the markets with a high (almost 50%) penetration of iPhones vs Android devices. Japan is also a mobile gaming nation, unlike the western markets that skew toward console gaming. The poll you ran on Twitter is redundant in the context of this. I think if Sega struck a deal similar to Samba de Amigo, where it could appear on Switch as well, they’d be able to target the global audience more effectively. But I disagree that this game isn’t a big deal for the service.
I buy the Switch version, if the released it there. Also I brought Puyo Tetris because of Puyo Puyo twice. Once as PS3 import and short after that they announced a Switch version. 😏 I also brought Puyo Puyo Champions, just for more Puyo Puyo and the Sega Ages Puyo Puyo 1 game, because I love Kirby's Ghost Trap on SNES so much that I have to own the "original" Puyo Puyo 1 game. Yes, I play and like Tetris a lot, but Puyo Puyo is the GOAT for me, even that I suck in it. 😁
This made me realize I own a lot of copies of PPT...I have it on PS3/Vita/PS4 (JP Import), Switch (JP digital/US digital/US physical) and steam. I also have a pirated copy on my 3DS, but talking about this made me remember how many versions of the game there actually are...

Summary: let's put what is a niche game overseas into what is a niche platform. What could possibly go wrong?
It crushes me that this game is only on Apple Arcade. Would love to finally be able to play a Puyo Puyo game since I barely have access to anything past Puyo Puyo Quest. I could play Quest, and have but, in constradt with other JP only titles... Being out of the loop on what's going on in game due to the language barrier throws me off just enough that I just stop playing...
Would emulate other Puyo titles if I could, but I can almost never get emulators to work for me so...
Would have been nice, but oh well.
I'm honestly just glad that we have a new, localized Puyo Puyo game.

Thank goodness for the Puyo Nexus Wiki and all the work Hisashi/his team do to keep everything up to date with current events. It's a shame it took this long for the series to step out of Japan, but hopefully it's here to stay now...
Let's just work on the whole "exclusive" part!
You can play puyopuyo 2 on switch. Part of the "Sega Ages" lineup on there. It's not in English but there's zero need to read anyway.
I enjoyed Puyo Tetris and I'd be interested in playing this but of course it's stuck on a platform I don't have.
what device do you use, i can give and teach what emulators to use
Hopefully they right their wrong, ball is in their court now...
Bro, a Puyo Puyo game for Mac computers? FINALLY! Step aside, Candy Crisis! The real deal pulled up!
Happy for you, king.
I'm with you, if SEGA releases Puyo in any capacity, my wallet is ready! I'm here to support as much as I can.
Hi panel de pon really needs a remake or something like that.
Me too, Puyo Puyo has it's own identity crisis but Panel de Pon has it worse. Bring back the fairies!
@@mchaosgwait they got rid of the fairies?! I should really look at the more recent releases instead of the one on nso and that yoshi version.
That gamecube version is the best version so far. I think that one was supposed to be for the N64 before we got Pokemon Puzzle League.
17:38 "Which is just as busted as it sounds"
If you play Yo~n that's just a normal day. You make a 7 chain for their super attacks to get rid of *literally every single garbage puyo* you sent to them. And then they kill you seconds later.
Kikimora intensifies...also Void Hole 😱
Yeah there’s a reason I didn’t bother trying to play that one lmao
Well, Samba de Amigo did release a new game on Switch under the name Samba de Amigo Party Central, so maybe this game or a very similar Puyo Puyo game under a different name will show up at some point.
fantasian (a jrpg by the people who made Lost Odyssey) recently publishes it to other platforms after being an Arcade exclusive for a number of years
While this is extremely optimistic it would be great if sega took the apple money as a way to update the models, uis, etc either to later republish it or reduce the cost of a separate standalone title with the same assets
Cuz i agree, it looks great and the color palette is so vibrant. Tons of charm
Considering the sonic one was pocket sized, I don't know how to feel about this being comparable content wise to Puyo Tetris lmao
Like, I have an Ipad, but I'd gladly pay for this.
I know right? My mind was blown too, it's a pretty bad name for the device since it's also shared by the app that's featured on non-apple devices.
@@mchaosg Thre's an app by the same name on non-Apple devices??? How did Apple manage to conjure a naming scheme as bad as "Macbook Pro -> Macbook Pro -> Macbook Pro"
Awww wish it was on LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE.
Even as an epic store or discord store(never forget) exclusive
I say we drop this whole "exclusive" notion and just put it everywhere...like previous Puyo games 😭
@@mchaosg You're welcome. The video was great
I don't know how you feel about this but I also heard that Puyo Puyo's mother series (Madou Monogatari) is getting another game made by the original company that created the series, Compile (Now Compile Heart).
Where did you get the cursed box art with the Teen ESRB rating at 4:03 ???
"I no longer think of Sega as a AAA studio, mostly because they've gotten into the habit of recycling content" ...What AAA studios have you been watching?
I did say mostly! The point is that they no longer have the ability to produce wholly original content. A studio with a larger size/budget could, but yes even AAA studios recycle content as well.
Recycling content and charging $70 for it just seems like the AAA MO right now rather than being a disqualifying factor in any sense.
If it were me, I’d prefer paying money _upfront_ than for a sub just for one game to show my support
The preservation efforts for this game are going to be messy, hopefully SEGA will spare us the effort and port it eventually. Then we can pay up front!
@@mchaosg agreed
The game looks so good, and I love what they did to the artstyle, the characters having outlines in their models always looked neat to me.
They're also super expressive too!
Really hoping it eventually gets released more widely, it’s happened with other Apple Arcade titles before
Fingers crossed!
Great video! I think I’m all caught up now. but the thing where the future of the series might rely on this game reminds me of when Sega kinda did the same thing with monkey ball Banana Blitz HD.
That's true and look at Monkey Ball now...getting a new entry 😁
Honestly it's so weird not getting an actually Puyo Puyo game like this on consoles and PC anymore. It seems like the Puyo Puyo Tetris series pretty much took over, which is a neat concept for sure, but where's a game solely focused on Puyo Puyo, that's not an eSports focused game like Puyo Puyo Champions?
They also added a puyo puyo sun gameplay style and fever as well
If only this had released on android too 😔
I'd have loved to have an actual mobile puyo game (quest doesn't count)
And it also looks perfect for consoles and pc too, hopefully they port it someday
Unfortunately, this game cannot be ported to any other mobile platform but consoles are a grey area...so hopefully! The UI for this game is more well suited for console than mobile, which is definitely suspicious when compared to other Apple Arcade titles.
@@mchaosg rip
I hate apple with a burning passion so I won't be playing the game anytime soon
But if we at least get a console release then we're golden. Hopium🙏

Good video! love to see more Puyo stuff that isn't just gameplay.
Happy to do it, thanks for watching!
I have a Mac so I'm definitely loading this up on it. I didn't even know it existed until this video and I have Apple Arcade
That's awesome, hope you have as much fun as I did!
We live in an interesting time for Tucker
if you asked for my impression of Dee these days, I'd tell you Dee is a shell of his former self
I love puyo puyo puzzle pop. Subscription was cancelled. Cried.
The side switch was actually introduced in Puyo Champions through an update, I don't remember which update but it's true
Oh darn, but that would make sense as they tend to cumulatively add QoL in each new title.
I’ve been loving this game so far.
Hopefully it improves as time goes on...
i hope some day this gets ported to consoles and or pc because i had just switched to android a month ago

Awesome, glad the video found you too. I appreciate your support!
This is my first time finding your youtube and absolutely didn't know you had one what.
I agree, long term preservation for these games is going to be rough so having other options would be great. Time will tell, I suppose...
man they should port this game to pc it would make this game be way more available. im still internally coping and seething about it bc im an android user and mainly play games on pc
the only english purely puyo games available on modern consoles are puyo 1, 2 and champions and puyo 1 and 2 are locked behind a subscription. and champions is only for competitive play... overseas fans are getting crumbs rn fr
By Puyo 1 and 2, you mean the SEGA AGES release right? Those are actually standalone downloads, I don't think you need NSO to play them.
@@mchaosg oh yeah i was thinking it was on NSO but like..... still
this game looks like sega put a good amt of effort into it! the returning modes, the redone chronicle models, the visuals, the customization, all of that. which only makes me more frustrated due to its exclusivity! im REALLY hoping the "future of the series" comment is just pr talk like u said it might be but if it actually is then idk what to say to that prospect. puyo fans have suffered enough, man
puyo fans are always suffering
Im not gonna lie, for the past 12-14 years Ive played Puyo, I dont blame people for being mad at the game. Ive seen the gameplay itself and I was so disappointed. I mean, if other people like it, thats perfectly fine! However, I feel like relying on this game for future releases is... interesting to say the least..We'll see how it goes. Also hi tucker!
StemlyFazbear!!

I'm surprised more people haven't tried to find themselves, there's a lot of Puyo fan cameos in this!

Although I can of course utilize my mom's MacBook for this or get cheap Hackintosh hardware only to get new Puyo game the fact that it's Apple Arcade exclusive still stings me.
I'm just lucky there's no Ocean Prince in this game. I would have been really tempted to buy a damn iPhone.
Actually, he's in the game...just not playable yet but will be at some point.

No doubt, hopefully SEGA is playing the long game here...
Time to resubscribe to Apple Arcade
Sega is for Puyo Puyo what Disney is to Star Wars
The problem is SEGA from the 80s to early 00st was gutted 20 years ago. Sammy is the company equivalent of a skinwalker. Unfortunately, it's become a common practice throughout the industry with no sign of stopping.
It's a shame, but enough failure will do that to a company. It's crazy to think about much SEGA pushed the industry forward, only to be their detriment. Hopefully they make a comeback before they bought out.
I'm telling you, drop this on android and it'll go hard
The only way I can enjoy Puyo Puyo is though emulation, I am in love with Puyo Puyo 2 and I want to try other games. But, I don't know which one.

It's kinda weird, right?
It's such a shame, even just releasing crossplay on android and normal ios would have been better. I'd love to play but it's like I don't even have an ios device let alone apple arcade, and I'm not buying an apple product just to play puyo. They're either happy with the money from apple or they're that out of touch and are intentionally killing the game
Surely they'll consider this game a success if even half as many people booted it up once as Sonic Dream Team, right?
It's like jumping jacks, I can do it 50 times a day if it helps.
Ur back after 8 months yayayyayayya
And now to disappear for 8 more...!
I fully agree, another great reason why this isn't suited for Apple Arcade.
Mobile games would be more respected if they relied less on gacha to be honest, and I say that as a avid player of gacha games since(no I don't spend money on them, never will)
I feel like puzzle pop suffers from the stigma of being on apple arcade in the same way many other great mobile gacha games suffer from being associated with their greedy cousins riddled with bad microtransactions.
I genuinely do not see a reason why Apple Arcade exists other than Apple wanting to make more money.
Uh yeah that's why people work
'Tis been a while. 🙂
Sorry about that!

It really bothers me not only that the game is exclusive on a niche platform, not only does it bother me that they abuse the amnesia thing... again, but also that parts of the lore are developed in this title... and not in a mainline game on consoles/PC.
I hope it comes out on other platforms in the future.
There's no amnesia in this game, what are you talking about.
Well...besides Feli 😁
@@Nenilein Oh, I misunderstood, he was referring to PPT2's amnesia... not this game's, because it doesn't exist. It was my mistake, I'm sorry.
I also brought Puyo Puyo Champions, just for more Puyo Puyo and the Sega Ages Puyo Puyo 1 game, because I love Kirby's Ghost Trap on SNES so much that I have to own the "original" Puyo Puyo 1 game.
