Fabulous interview - THANK YOU, BILL MAHER for featuring Andrew Yang....more Americans NEED TO MEET HIM. His policy ideas are insightful and nuanced, and the issues this country faces require more than 5 second snappy soundbites to address. We are 100% behind Andrew Yang's vision for America!!
Ubi is a great thing but vat is not the tax that should be funding it (capital gains and estate tax can raise just as much, and they only target rich people and not the working class) and you shouldn't have to forfeit all other social programs to get ubi, because some (usually the poorest and worst off) people receive more than a 1000 dollars a month in other programs, so switching to ubi would hurt them. It also makes it non universal at the same time. Fix these two issues and the proposal is almost flawless
@@EE-gv9wt unless his stance as changed recently, his Freedom Dividend is opt-in. If you already receive more than 1k/m via other assistance programs you don't have to take the Dividend. Would you kindly read his proposals and watch the number of interviews where he explains this

@@EE-gv9wt the reality is that tech companies are incredibly good at avoiding all the kind of taxes you talk of and that's why he's going with VAT. Mind you, VAT would cover only half the cost as the rest would come from gains in the economy, saving money by not jailing some people, less people with mental health problems and concurrent welfare programs and so on. The numbers add on and the vast vast majority would gain massively from it. As a leftist, the idea that nobody would be under the poverty line is attractive to me. To libertarians, it's the fact that people decide what to do with their money, no begging involved, no loss of privacy (which progressives like too). And don't get me started on the safety net that is nothing more than a costly scam where people with contacts and from better families are more apt at hopping through the loops to get help. The numbers are horrible as very few people get the help they need and of those very few get over 150 a month and all fear loosing it at any time. Time to replace that crap with UBI.
Exactly this. Joe Biden doesn't give you hope. And he would lose, against Trump because Joe Biden doesn't solve the issues of Trump Voters. Yang thinks about Right & Left voters.

UBI is stupid. Why can't we find alternatives like for every American citizen attending a local college or university, we give $12k to that school, of which a percentage not going to tuition or expanding extra STEM training has to be allotted for subsidizing the average local living costs for a student, while the students are required to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 or so. This would be money aside financial aid. Of course you need other avenues of training or opportunity to redirect other unprepared segments of the population into the emerging economy.

I wake up every day a Yang supporter, have zero regrets and feel optimism about the future. I am what is referred to as 'Disaffected Voter'. I vote. But I don't feel its effective. Yang has changed how I feel about it.
Yang wants to fund UBI with VAT. VAT is a regressive tax on consumers. Companies DONT pay it. They just add it to the price that the consumers pay and it depresses demand. His policy is therefore economically illiterate. If you funded UBI from a wealth tax or an alternative minimum tax on corporations then it might work but that would need to be investigated. As it is, Yang's main policy is a loser.
@@michaelrch there is just so much misinformation and bias in your statement. All regressiveness of the VAT is counteracted by the freedom dividend. VAT is a uniform tax. It is made regressive by ratio of income not because it's solely regressive. You would need to spend over 120,000 in consumer goods in a calendar year to be worse off. According to the Bureau of Labor and statistics the average American spends 66,009. You are trying to implement Robin hood taxes to make it seen more just. But in fact UBI is the most just proposal of any candidate. And can be the greatest peace of civil rights legislation since giving women the right to vote. It empowers minority communities that have been in cyclical poverty for generations. It helps women in abusive relationships have the ability ti leave. It allows LGBTQ+ individuals who are disowned by family members a starting block for life. You have a preferred candidate that is fine. But no matter how many holes you try and poke UBI is the best policy offered in this election cycle
@@michaelrch Companies DO pay VAT. It occurs at every point in the value-adding chain. Yes, it can be regressive in a vacuum, but when it's combined with UBI, it's really, really not, especially when Yang has already talked about zero-rating certain key items (diapers or food, for example) while more luxury items could attract a higher rate (yachts or rocket engines, for example.) If you think Yang's plan to abolish poverty, empower women, empower workers, create jobs and begin to transform the economy for the future isn't good enough for you though, which candidate's UBI proposal is your favourite?
@T Bone what benefits are people losing by gaining $1000 a month? It doesn't cause inflation because no new money will be printed. It doesn't take away social security, it stacks on top. Hi. I think they robbed the American People of the information he has been trying to tell the American people about, automation. MSNBC robbed the people...most Americans have no idea still that automation is here and will be going full force in the next few years. When the American people see and hear for themselves, they will be mad that mainstream media is withholding vital information that will take 16-20 million jobs in US alone and 30-40% worldwide automation.
That's what the DNC does. Remember what they did to Bernie. They sabotaged his campaign. They sabotaged Marianne and Yang for a start. A few more candidates will get minimized next debate. This is so 2016. DNC doesn't know how to win elections. Trump will win again because of the DNC's arrogance and game plan which failed last time although it should have been a cake walk for Hillary.
You better believe the DNC already has "their" candidate picked out and will rig the primaries so "their" candidate wins. There is a lot of corruption going on in the DNC.
If you currently lean right, register ahead of time in your state for the Democratic Party primaries. It’s set up so that you can’t cast a vote for both parties. You're the first candidate that logically explains how the money is going to get there. I never gave universal income much thought, but your economics is sound. I remember when Bush gave everyone money (once). I spent mine like you said, buying things I needed, probably boosting the economy. It's also a great way to not levy a wealth tax on the super rich; something Warren is supporting. And it accomplishes the same thing; plus strengthens the economy and supports small businesses.
And why is it a bad thing to tax the super rich more? They are getting richer by automation, but they are not spending that on creating jobs, they are spending that on buying robots so they can get even richer. How exactly is it helping the population that fewer and fewer people get more and more wealth? GDP can look great while 50% of the people are struggling to the survive. And that is if they do pay their taxes at all.
@@bolee3625 I don't think I'm missing his point, I am disagreeing with his point. I am not proposing a higher tax on start ups and small businesses, I'm proposing a higher tax on the SUPER rich. I doubt that they are going to disband their business because they make less money. It's fine if they use that money on creating jobs, research and innovation and etc. but once they take that money out of the company and give themselves a big fat pay check, then why shouldn't that be taxed more? How is that hurting the economy?
@@khongminh5168 Andrew Yang is for taxing the rich, just not the way warren and bernie does it directly, because they all hide assets in other entities. An industry of accounts, lawyers is paid by rich and corporations to avoid taxable events by moving money to tax shelters locations, categories, etc. Yang's way to get some of those wealth from super rich is through VAT, which is very difficult to circumvent. If Jeff Bezo invest in billion dollars on blue origin, 10% of those economic activities get taxed and funnel back to Freedom Dividend to pay for citizens.
@@willweng305 I'm not arguing against the VAT, I'm arguing for the super rich tax. Whether they hide it away in other entities or find other loop holes is a different matter. @@saxboss1 It's significantly less authoritarian than what we have today. Welfare is a racially divided, inefficient, ineffective mess which simply creates more stress and poverty. The Freedom Dividend would let people make more of their own choices, free of government restrictions and commands. People would be able to say no to dangerous, exploitative or abusive jobs. In some cases, it's been shown to reduce inflation because it enables markets to actually function properly. "Throwing money at at the problem" doesn't always work because usually there's some big government plan behind it and that plan is usually misguided and/or mismanaged. In this case, it's just ensuring that every adult human has enough cash to survive on. If people have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, how can they live without being able to buy food? How can they be free if their income is dependent on filling in the right forms for an overweening government? @@michaelrch 20th century economics says that but that's not what we see in the data today. The problem that has the Fed scratching their head right now is that they literally can't find why there's no inflation. The reason is because price sensitivity is no longer tied to the things it used to be, like money in the system. That's because technology has given Americans a level of price transparency that suppresses the ability of companies to pass the cost onto the consumer. You can find the cheapest of price of anything on a nationwide scale, even global scale in a matter of an hour on Google. That's why right now as Trump raises tariffs on China, the cost to companies have increase, but price tags on the shelf have barley moved.
Michael RCH, he proposes a VAT on luxury goods that only the rich would buy, not essentiels. It will not hurt the consumer eho can’t afford it. He proposes a tax on numbers of clicks or searches and such so that tech companies start paying up. But you’re right that he should find more ways to fund it, like a higher tax on the wealthiest 10% and reduce military spending and stop regime change wars like Tulsi Gabbard suggests.
Jack Gates I disagree that a wealth tax is regressive. It's kinda impossible when it only applies to the rich. I live in a country with a wealth tax on worldwide assets and the way it's defined makes it almost impossible to avoid. It's a right wing talking point to say that taxes on the rich can't be enforced. They can and they are in countries that mean business. The problems where they arise are in countries that gut their tax agencies, like the GOP has systematically gutted the IRS and starved it of funds.
Khong Minh Most VAT taxes omit food and sometimes things like child's clothing. They are still regressive. Unless you make it a pure luxury tax that only applies to fast cars, boats and jewellery etc (I'm summarising obviously) then it will disproportionately take from the poor and working class (ie it will take more of their money than the rich). But if you do restrict is that much then you don't collect the trillions of dollars needed for UBI. You can tell he fundamentally either doesn't get it or is hiding something because he says "Amazon will pay a value added tax". Amazon NEVER will pay the tax. Consumers will.
But in today's society filled with scarcity, cut-throat competition, and rising inequalities, the vast majority cannot just simply drop what they hate (i.e. their jobs) and do what brings them joy. Most of us will never have that freedom so long as money is tied to everything. We need to get off these deeply entrenched notions about economies and money. Why are there no new bridges, new schools, or new hospitals beings built? The response is always "there is no money." Bullsh*t. @@magicskyfairy69 UBI will be meant to replace most welfare programs -- NOT Social Security, that's a right we earned, cut the military budget to a reasonable size, and force the rich to pay their share, and we will then have more than enough.
@Brian Richner you're talking about taxation as though it has no effect on economic activity though. Trump reduced the corporate tax rate from 35% (under Obama) to 21%. tradingeconomics.com/united-states/corporate-tax-rate The OECD average corporate tax rate is in the low 20% range, so it's no surprise that the economic activity of the country improved by bringing it back in line with the other developed countries of the world. Also, I'm curious why you think it helps you for the government to extract wealth from companies? Do you think the government can do more productive things than what those companies would do with it on their own? Last I checked, almost all the world's innovations and improved prosperity are owed to corporate advancements. The government is wildly inefficient and spends money frivolously because the consequences of doing so are limited. For a business, stupid spending means bankruptcy.

Make sure to register beforehand for the Democratic primaries. Especially true for both young and also those that don’t vote at all. The system is set up so that you can’t vote for the primary in both parties so if you’re not registered for one or the other you run the risk of not being able to vote at all. Just a heads up, typed it like 50 times now but I just think everyone should know. I really want to see Andrew Yang as our next president.
Haven't watched yet but I looked at the like ratio and usually it's like 80% tops for presidential candidates' appearances, with a bunch of people complaining that Maher talks too much, lol. Here it's like 97% so I know Yang must've killed it.
Yeah I wish Yang would state that there is a lot of data on UBI alone and emphasize that because wot of people initially do not know that UBI has been researched a lot lol.
How come people are all about black people and hispanics who rank at the bottom of everything?? How about the number one minority? Who even surpass white people? ASIANS!!!!!!!!!!!!! ASIAN FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A Hillary voter can like Yang. Bernie voter can like Yang. Libertarians can like Yang. Republicans can like Yang. When was the last time we could say that? Edit: Hi all! Thanks for the likes and comments. But what’s more important than liking and commenting? Voting and donating! Go pitch in to Andrew Yang and do not forget to vote for him at the polls.
"I understand the impulse behind identity politics, but Democrats have to know that identity politics is a very poor way to approach winning national elections and it's a very poor way to bring our country together. We have to enact solutions that will help all Americans and when Martin Luther King championed a guaranteed minimum income in the 60s, which is almost exactly like my Freedom Dividend, he didn't do it for any subset of Americans, he did it for all Americans. And that's again how we move the country forward." What a beautiful quote. Yang speaks in completely understandable language, with a tone that is mild yet convincing and reasonable. His non-extremism and appeal to ALL Americans will definitely be of interest to the many voters in the middle who despised both ends of the political spectrum. And the fact that he is discrediting identity politics is I'm sure very appealing for conservatives like myself who abhor this sort of nonsense. But Yang does it in such a fashion that it doesn't come out in the way that pundits like Ben Shapiro does it. He sugarcoats the negativity and always ends it on a positive, hopeful note that really gives a totally different impression, despite the fact that he is literally saying the exact same thing. It is in my firm belief that Andrew Yang has major potential, as he is uniquely focusing on the job problems and issues that touch right into the hearts of average Americans. It's just as simple as spreading the message; more Americans need to hear his message.
Please when spreading the word, especially to fellow conservatives, remember to register as Democratic ahead of the primaries. Trump has the Republican nomination wrapped up and Yang deserves it on the democratic side but is going to need all the help he can get. As a guy in his 40s that has voted democratic or Green Party his entire life, Yang is the candidate I’m always hoping for a never get, regardless of whether they win or lose. I’m hoping enough of the American people hear about him in time to get out to the polls to support him. This entire country could use it.
I'm mexican, and i can tell you, this guy is what humanity needs to move forward, he is the voice of reason, common sense and humanism. To not vote for him, and instead go for some old politician like Biden or Trump, will be a bigger mistake than the one you did in 2016.

If I had 1,000 a month. I would be taking out my girlfriend on dates more. I'd save up to buy a car built after 2010. I'd like to spend money on my hobbies, I want to learn how to paint.
Yep, these are the things Yang would want you to spend your money on, putting money back into the economy by supporting local businesses (dates with girlfriend) paying off debt going back to school to better yourself, and to have more capitol to move from place to place to go to where the jobs are. People that have more money to spend tend to be more generous as well, I'd definitely see myself donating more to charities and causes that interest me.

Those of us who are a bit more on the rational/objective side applauded his discipline and bearing during the debate. He basically didn't act like a child screaming at a parent at the toy store. As the pool dwindles down, you can be assured he will start to absolutely eviscerate the other candidates.

Lol I did the same thing. The guys got something.
@@khongminh5168 you missed his point. he thinks that tax rate for rich shouldn't be too hight to discourage enterpreneurship.
@@bolee3625
I don't think I'm missing his point, I am disagreeing with his point.
@@willweng305
I'm not arguing against the VAT, I'm arguing for the super rich tax. Whether they hide it away in other entities or find other loop holes is a different matter. Is there anything wrong about the super rich paying more in taxes? If not, fine we agree. I just think that a VAT isn't enough. However, what Josh Guyette seems to imply is that the super rich should not get taxed more. I don't agree with that. If you ask me whether or not I support Yang for president, then I absolutely do. However I still think his policies have room to improve.

Yes, throw money at it. Authoritarian governments have always succeeded am I right ?
@Michael Anderson His answer to that general question flew over your head.
heck yea
He wants to fund UBI with VAT.
Jack Gates
I disagree that a wealth tax is regressive.
Khong Minh
Most VAT taxes omit food and sometimes things like child's clothing.
The purpose of Being, is to be Happy.
You do what brings you JOY .

@Bill Turner Is that right? ruclips.net/video/1oAMa6bEi_0/видео.html
I was impressed .... never heard of him other than comments on Bill Maher's Fan Pages, so was looking forward to the interview .... well worth our time.
Maria Lewis
Check him out on the breakfast club. I donated right away after listening to that.
Also check him out on the Joe Rogan Experience, he gets probably the most detailed during that interview.
I vote. I donate. I argue with my family. I normally don’t care about anything but this guy has great ideas that will actually change my life in a drastic way.
For the first time, I really really really want to vote for someone. And that is Mr. Andrew Yang! Yang2020
Me Too!
He killed this better than i expected he would. Daaamn
Haven't watched yet but I looked at the like ratio and usually it's like 80% tops for presidential candidates' appearances, with a bunch of people complaining that Maher talks too much, lol. Here it's like 97% so I know Yang must've killed it.
He’s smart as hell. And he’s real. None of the platitude and obscure ideologies. He’s got exact policies and data to back them up.
I assume it's because Bill Maher, Sam Harris and Joe Rogan are friends
Yang gang!!! My guy!!
Never!!!
Obama
Michael Abia No, have you seen videos of McCains fans calling him an Arab?
It’s something we haven’t experienced until now.
You can like anyone you want if you're ignorant enough.
In 2016 with Bernie Sanders and now with Tulsi Gabbard in 2019.
And that's again how we move the country forward."
What a beautiful quote.

Unite your country Mr Yang and create a better union in the process. I'm a leftist and UBI is the solution.
I can already tell Ilhan Omaar is going to hate this guy.
Unlike Obama, she won because she ran on the "I am a Muslim" platform
There's a reason why democrats, republicans and independents all love this guy. Do yourself a favor and look into Andrew Yang. #YangGang #NotLeftNotRightForward
Theres no way 5-10 minutes does this man justice. Watch Joe Rogan interview and you'll better understand why America/humanity needs this now ruclips.net/video/cTsEzmFamZ8/видео.html
I have read Andrew’s book and I have done my due diligence. He is the real deal!!
@@maestrojo If I had $1000 a month off the top of my head it would go to: car repairs, roof repair, build a carport, getting my teeth fixed, buying healthier food which costs more, buy solar panels for my roof, new refrigerator, new stove. Id also get my brother a gaming pc and Id give money to my mom to help pay her bills.
I would buy food.
@@Icureditwithmybrain : your list is more than $1000.
Greatest Timeline I would get Invisalign to fix my teeth, and get good health insurance.
