    Baking powder contains acids and alkalis which only react to produce gas when they are in liquid and heated. Bicarbonate of soda and baking soda are the same thing and they are alkalis which react with acids e.g buttermilk or vinegar immediatley. Xx

    Cupcake Jemma just made a video and she explained the difference💁🏼 but here goes - baking soda is the same thing as bicarbonate of soda.
    The difference between baking powder and soda is that the powder reacts to heat and the soda reacts to acidity.

      Baking powder is made up of a base, an acid, and a buffering material to prevent the acid and base from reacting before their intended use. Most commercially available baking powders are made up of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3, also known as baking soda or bicarbonate of soda) and one or more acid salts.

      Minimalist Baker has a peanut butter cup pie recipe on her blog which I've made for friends several times as Christmas presents. It also works well with sunflower seed butter 🤗

    For the cashew butter measuring, fill a large water measuring cup with a cup of water, add cashew butter until it reaches 2 cups. This way it wont stick to the sides, it makes it so much easier and you dont waste nearly as much.

    Bicarb soda is the technical term for baking soda. it helps to "widen" baked goods as they expand.
    Baking powder gives baked goods more rise and lift.

    Baking soda reacts is the same as bicarbonate of soda, just a simpler name, it reacts with acids and released CO2 causing air and raising your baked good. Baking powder contains some baking soda but it also has an acidic ingredient and a stabilizer to keep them from reacting when stored. However when it’s mixed with a liquid the two ingredients will react together. Baking soda can also be called bread soda, but I think that’s a brand name 😊 will definitely give these a try ❤️

    I love this "baking with miles" thing you are doing. Maybe try some strawberry bread with vegan white frosting. Very summery. It's a thought
    Just do a vegan banana bread recipe but instead of bananas use mashed strawberries. 🤔🤗

    baking soda is sodium bicarbonate, a base (also bicarb soda, bicarb, sodium bicarbonate, baking soda are all just the same thing)
    baking powder on the other hand is some sort of acid (often sodium pyrophosphate) mixed with the basic sodium bicarbonate
    it produced the following acid base reaction:
    NaH2PO4 + NaHCO3 = Na2HPO4 + CO2 + H2O
    basically the acid and the base react to produce a salt (not the same as ‘Salt’), carbon dioxide and water.
    we don’t taste the salt, but the carbon dioxide is in gas form so it creates bubbles. this gets trapped in the cake and makes it rise
    just baking soda needs to be mixed with an acid of some sort in order to produce a bubbling reaction. the reason it’s “stronger” is because baking powder isn’t all baking soda, it just just contains it plus an acid.
    this is also why it has a metallic taste often. baking soda will naturally taste metallic but in baking powder there is enough acid to completely react, so none is left behind. if you add baking soda to something and it doesn’t have enough acid to fully react it, the metallic taste will stick around.

    Baking soda and bicarbonate of soda are the same thing, just with different names, and baking powder contains bicarbonate of soda (as well as cream of tartar). Loved the video!!

    Bicarbonate of soda and baking soda are the same and baking powder is something else. Basically, they are both leavening agents when you put them in baked goods, but the difference is that baking soda is alkaline, so you need some kind of acidic element in your recipe (vinegar, lemon juice...) to make it work. The baking powder is baking soda, but there is already something acidic in the powder, so you just need to put it in a wet mixture and it will be effective.

    Baking powder/soda (same thing) rises and bicarbonate soda spreads. Example..
    If you want huge cookies, add some bicarbonate soda because they’ll spread. If you want fat cookies, add baking powder.... Muffins, a bit of both. Pancakes, baking powder. Ppl in the USA call baking powder, baking soda (I’m pretty sure anyway).

    These episodes should be called Adventures in Baking. FYI - Baking soda and bicarbonate of soda are the same thing. Baking powder is a mixture of baking soda and cream of tartar (and sometimes cornstarch is included).

    Baking soda is pure sodium bicarbonate (a base) this will create carbon dioxide gas upon heating casuing food to leven. Baking powder is also sodium bicarb but it is mixed with a weak acid, usuall tartaric acid (cream of tartar) because it has this acid, it can react as soon as water is added to combine the two chemicals allowing carbon dioxide and levening to occur with out heating.

    long story short, baking soda's reaction happens immediately so the outcome is spread out kinda crispy stuff (ex. cookies) and baking soda reacts with heat so you get lighter fluffier stuff (ex. cake)

    Baking soda and sodium bicarbonate are the same thing, and it serves as a leavening agent when mixed with a liquid and an acidic ingredient. Baking powder is simply baking soda with an acidifying agent already included, as well as a stabilizer to stop the chemical reaction (carbon dioxide production) from occurring until a liquid is added to the mixture. So I guess you could say that baking powder is kind of like a shortcut or a convenience product. You can use the baking soda and baking powder interchangeably so long as you include an acidifying agent when baking with baking soda. PHEW. That is all. Blondies lookin' delicious, btw.

    Miles, what stevia drops do you use? I'm on a candida diet and can only have xylitol and stevia to sweeten things so would love to find some good unflavoured stevia drops to use in baking. This recipe looks amazing! Will have to sub the sugar for xylitol and see how they turn out!

    Someone explained the science behind baking soda (bi-carb soda) and baking powder, but for extremely basic baking differentiation, baking soda makes your creation spread, while baking powder makes it puff (rise). Soda - spread, powder - puffs. 😊😊😊
