Some tips for people getting into streaming.
1 ) Audio is more important than video. People will put up with a slightly pixelated video but when your mic doesn't sound good people will leave.
2) Stream on a schedule if you can, that will greatly increase number of returning viewers.
3) While streaming many hours every day definitely increases your viewership make sure you have a "normal" streaming schedule you want to work to in mind. Your goal is to grow your viewership enough that your change of schedule won't affect your bottom line. Basically your burning your health / work over hours to grow enough to sustain yourself easier in the future.
4) Join a stream team and start talking to other streamers preferably with a viewer base that is interested in the type of content your making. Work together, raid each other after your done streaming. Most people make it on Twitch through socializing and working with other streamers. Try to get on podcasts or do co-op games with other streamers.
5) Have a brand name ready that is available on Twitch and every social media platform you intent to use, as well as a domain name. Having different names or changing your name at any point will seriously hurt your viewership. Make sure its something you can live with in 5 years, you don't want to be that 30 something guy streaming as xXxSephirothxXx, right? Businesses will take you more seriously if you have your own domain and they will look at your website before your Twitch channel.
6) If you intent to stream as a job treat it as a job. You basically run your own business, meaning you need to organize as such, pay taxes etc. Doing a proper job from the start with avoid any financial setbacks or many hours searching when you need something. And make back-ups.
7) As any business you need to invest to grow. This doesn't just apply to hardware or software this goes for everything you use for streaming and while using free tools, plugins and art when your just starting is fine but using custom work will stand out, look professional and be more memorable. Good emotes are also key and optimally you want emotes people are likely to use on other channels.
8) Listen to your body! Sitting all day and using a mouse and keyboard all day takes a huge toll on the body, you NEED to invest in a good ergonomic chair and desk, take regular breaks at set times and get enough exercise. You can't give a good show if your ill or in pain.
9) Listen to your mind! Being exposed to the internet as a streamer is extremely mentally taxing and you NEED to talk about at least some of it to someone. Look at how more experienced streamers deal with problems on stream and learn from them. Nearly all streamers quit because of psychological issues so if you want to do this for a living you need to understand the dangers that come with this job and deal with them properly and as early as possible. You can't give a good show if your not in a good mindset.
10) Know when you give up. Not everyone can become Twitch / Internet famous, that is just not how things work. Regardless of how hard you work or how much you financially invest you can't control the "x factor", luck, hand of god. Have a back-up plan and make sure your financially secure if things don't work out.
thx for the tips xD
And of course you have to be fun/enjoyable. I don't think many enjoy to watch a streamer quietly playing some game.
Would i need 2 monitors for streaming and a separate mic? Cant i use the headphone one? Thnx
Nah I'm just gonna go postal.
Wow thanks for taking the time for that, definitely appreciate the advice
OBS also has an automatic setup that tests your connection and chooses the best bitrate and resolution you can stream at
How do you do that
How?

It doesn't even matter how popular the application is for anybody to prefer it over the other. If it has good file-structure, smaller size for faster installation, & just flat out easier to use without annoying accommodating steps for a simple procedure then it is what you call *A+ Software*
Should totally make a techquickie on setting up a mixer for audio control for single and dual PC systems, would be helpful for tons of people!
Tips on how to stream:
1. Get Streamlabs Obs (basicaly Obs but eaiser to use)
2. Get a Cool intro/outro or whatever with Panzoid
3. Have a good mic (I use a Blue Snowball Ice, its like 38$ really good bang for buck)
Damn this guy is so similar to the linus cat tips guy.
He looks like Linus Tech tips as well

I am here because I know this will be the top 1 suggestion from youtube in the future.
Confusing knowing with guessing is dangerously unintelligent.
You'll see
I like how you Express streamer got on camera or forget to turn off the camera after the stream
Your intro was spot on
How to stream the WAN show to the test channel
Makes a Techquickie, still has issues on the WAN show.

Thanks to this, I've become a full time-multimillionaire fortnite streamer!
Thanks

Hope you do an advanced OBS Setup video :)
Please mention that using a higher bitrate means viewers need better internet to watch your stream if you do not have quality options. Every single streaming-related video you put out omits that, and it is VERY important if you want to actually grow your stream. Severely limiting how many people can watch is not worth it just to have slightly better quality.
I want to stream too but my PC hardware is very low ....
If you have an Nvidia graphics card, you can use shadowplay to stream with barely any lag.
With GPU encoding in OBS it is possible to stream with a weaker CPU.
Experiment with 480p instead of 720p for the stream, certainly don't try to push a 60 FPS stream, go for 25-30.
I disliked this video because he prioritized Twitch over RUclips, even though RUclips is far superior for streaming
mine too
Boy oh boy, that's a intelligent videos, the kinds of which makes new people come to the channel and hangout just like happen to me some years ago, and now it's what 3? 4? years with you guys.
I think you guys should make an episode on NDI. NDI saved me a lot of problems when it comes to performance while streaming. Great option for people that don't have a powerful rig but happen to have 2 pcs (or pc and a laptop).
"We're a serious channel". While rocking a 'Holy Balls' shirt. Classy! :D
This was nice! I wonder if you're gonna make more insight for OBS.
I needed this yesterday but I managed to get it working myself
wtf you're really great at explaining things! humor is lacking, BUT you're very informational
this was a super good vid and it helped me alot to start streaming
Me: *dont know how to set up obs*
This guy: *Give me info*
Me: wow my head
WOw searched all day and found squat, your one video got me up and running!!
dude as soon as you gave that opening advice, i knew i'd love the vid.
Another thing that should be mentioned: if you are having problems displaying the game on your stream and it is instead displaying a black screen, even though you have captured the Program, first check the order of elements on your stream: are any other captures blocking it?
If not, check NVIDIA Graphics Settings / Control Panel: if your Streaming Software is on a different GPU to your Game, it will not capture properly: you can change this option in the 3D options section of the NVIDIA Control Panel!
+1 For promoting open source software.
*Linus:* This is a serious channel
*Also Linus:* Wearing a Holy Balls! shirt.
Damn your voice is entertaining !
Laink et Terracid. C'est tout ce que j'ai a dire
There's no need to use a second dummy twitch account, they have built-in functionality to run a test stream to your channel that will be private. Just add "?bandwidthtest=true" to the end of your stream key, and check it's working on inspector.twitch.tv
This doesn't let you check audio and video though. It's only good for well bandwidth testing.
@@FeuerfaustGolDAce Ah whoops, I forgot about that. It's been a year since I even had to run a stream test.
I'd highly recommend one of the forks of OBS called "Streamlabs OBS"; It makes notifications, stream overlays, and chat interaction really easy and is all built in!
And increases your CPU and RAM usage by using electron.
Ltt best yt channel
Shortest and the most informative video i found. Great job.
Liking the clean cut
Really great vid, you're very likable, clear and just a joy to watch!
Linus
Thanks for the good content
But can you guys but a extreme detailed video on twitch streaming including exact hardware setting procedure all in one place?
It will be really great
Streamlabs OBS. Not regular OBS! Also free and mountains of extra features!
or if u have a gtx1050 or above select gpu to render and use CQP and it will sort all the bitrate out , job done :)
Haha, I'm getting ready to set up OBS right now... Only I don't do gaming livestreams, just Sunday vlogs, since RUclips has labeled Knife Making as "Inappropriate" I started a weekly livestream at 3(est)... Been a fan for years, didn't see this on Floatplane... O.K, gotta go setup, going live in a couple hours... Take it easy...
Great tips as always @Techquickie
You can use OBS, but I like StreamLabs OBS more, simply because it eats less computer resources while having more performance than a simple OBS. You can download StreamLabs OBS on the official website: bit.ly/2AYuood
I hope you enjoy this alternative. Good luck in streaming :)
thank you for these amazing videos guys, you are the best!
If all streamers would skip their web camera it might actually be something to be considerable. Everything with camera are automatically be punt into the "might watch" pile and never end up being watched.
Thanks... I just got twitch and watching this was really useful for trying to set up. Keep up the good work👍
Funny how you guys used to spend months having issues streaming with XSplit and refused to try OBS, and when you finally caved in had zero issues
Thank God a 6min video
Make more videos about OBS, like this one
I'm waiting for a well known streamer to comment "finally a helpful video"
My husband and I just started streaming with our ps4 but I really want to make it look more professional and this was very helpful! Thank you! Btw our twitch is @RyanAndAnnette 😊
I'm usually a technologically challenged, with this video, I was able to set up & run OBS easily.
Suggestions for streaming or even recording from Laptop
Now do a video to help people out with NDI and dual stream pc setup.
Heres some tip from me
Most people today dont pack a i9 or a threadripper, usually people may sit on example i7 4770k or even a i7 2600k.
Some good settings for a i7 4770k
Cpu: preset very fast
Downscale to 720p/60fps ( dont go the 1080o/60fps, u get pixelation when u move fast)
Bitrate: 3500-6000 the higher the better quality
Encoder: x264
Downscale filter: lanczos
This will give u a good quality to start of streaming on twitch.
If u need help setting up a dual stream pc setup pinch me for help.
We're a SERIOUS channel here on Techquickie, wears a shirt that says "Holy Balls"
I believe you can play from 1 PC, stream to another PC in the house and then stream to Twitch from the second PC. Could you do a video on this process.
Thanks for all your great videos
i had to select record screen, when i choose record game even if i select the window (The New World Preview) then even if im playing the stream appears as a black screen.
Would be cool if they showed an example stream with those settings.
1080p 60 would look like shit.
The max you can do on Twitch is 1080p 30.
If you want/need 60 FPS stick with 720p.
1080p 60 needs more than 12000 kbps to look good with FPS style games.
I was JUST looking this up yesterday! Thanks!
Surprisingly informative..
you got my sub
Hey just got the idea for a new video: could you make one about sound settings for streaming? i have a Rhode NT1A and a XENYX 302USB. I know some streamer use Virtual Audio Cable and Adobe Audition to increase the sound quality. Could you make a video about Headset vs Mic and basic (USB) mixer and additional sound improvements?
Excellent tutorial!
I've i7-5820k cpu and 1080 SLI, but my problem is that when i record, i record on my 1tb SSD while my game is running on another 1tb SSD...
The problem is that i get low when i record, i get low ingame fps, but in the vods i record, it all look smooth... Any ideas?
Thanks Linus this helped
The green screen was the most useful tip
Just an fyi scaling the resolution like at 2:39 sometimes results in very poor performance if your downscale filter is set to something very high..
Thanks this was quick and easy to follow!
Smaller brother says: My favourite streaming software is Bandicam free edition (with watermark). It's super pro and best. Recommended for everyone!
wow didnt know linus Tech tips has a second channel
when i try dragging the screen it's so weird like the full scene cant go in the square I'm super late texting but can someone help
1:06 that face tho, any way this helped me so much thanks
Needed this so much. Always there for me I love you guys
With a shirt that says "Holy shit" your definitely a "serious" channel 🤣😂
No matter what OBS settings I seem to choose for my display resolution, my output only shows the upper left 25% of the screen. So when I'm watching live on RUclips I'm not seeing the entire screen. What can I do?
Man those earings crack me the fuck up lol .
Before clicking this video.....
Me: I can't find a vid made by Linus....
After clicking this video.....
Me: Oh....
Please create same for advance settings for streaming as well
You are the man. I gotta try these tips.
I needed this video a month ago.....
Holy Balls, that beginning... :D
you can also connet your twitch to obs
Yes please I needed a tutorial like this
This is really helpful I will defo use everything you offered

Super helpful. Thank you
yo pls can you explain why samsung and other manufacturers use qualcomme snapdragon in some region but (with samsung) their own xynos in others

Thanks man, good video
Linus, what do you recommend for a wireless gaming headset sub $100 CAD? Prefer non leather earcups as gaming for a few hours get sweaty and they crack after while of use.
4:33 - so that's why the WAN show streamed around twenty minutes to the wrong twitch channel this week...
hay guys ... i just want to ask ... if me stream with x264 ... minimum req cpu for 1080p 60fps have how much core minimum ??? ... i just have low budget for another pc ONLY just for OBS !!
dropped a like after that shirt gag
