He had sateted everytime that for many year he was also ignored by his Iranian colleagues and commanders who didn't believe him and suffered him a lot by banning him from many of his rights! But finally the late IRIAF commander (Gen. Thanks! As for the wingman not shooting, it could be the fuel state. But on the other hand, it wasn't unheard of that leaders didn't give their wingmen a chance to shoot even if they couldn't for some reason.
The F-5 is certainly among the best fighters ever made by US of A. It was extremely classified in the early stages of testing and what sort of equipment we could install on that nice piece of equipment.
About MiG-25 vs F-5.......In August 1983 a F-14 detected two Foxbats near Tabriz, a AIM-54 was launched and the explosion damaged one MiG, who was still flyng "Low And Slow" to return to the base.....by luck a F-5 was in a bombing mission and see the Foxtbat, the pilot Capt Kazem Zarif Khadem droped the bombs, rise fast and launch two AIM-9 tho the MiG-25, both missiles hit and the plane fall. the pilot survive the ejection. That's perceptive :) I think they were mostly using AIM-9J. That version is not available for F-5 in DCS. In this scenario, it was a non factor anyway.
It doesn't seem like the wingman had technical problems. Either, they were deep in bingo fuel territory, or the leader simply didn't want to give his wingman a chance. Such thing have happened.
@@showtime112 I think you might be correct. I remember reading in the book "Clashes" that in the past (ie, Vietnam era) USAF tactical doctrine was so rigid, unlike the Navy's, particularly after the establishment of Top Gun. The flight/section leader was almost always the only designated shooter and the wingmen were there to protect the leader. It had been said that at the time a flight of 4 USAF Phantoms actually had less firepower compared to a section of Navy Phantoms since only the leader can shoot. Since most Iranian air force pilots at the time were originally trained by the USAF when they were still using this doctrine,, perhaps they inherited this tactical rigidity too? Perhaps that's why the leader didn't give the wingman a chance. Perhaps it simply didn't occur to him that he could have told the wingman to engage.
@@i.setyawan I read the same thing about the comparison of USAF and USN tactics but somewhere else. Your suggestion might be right. I don't know when the Iranian Colonel was trained or did he go to the USA, but since he was already that senior in rank, it might have happened in the 60s.

I'm not exactly sure how it is going to run cause I don't have this hardware. This seems to be a rather good setup. How it runs can vary depending on a module (F-14 for example is very demanding), a map (flying low level over a city in Syria is also rather demanding). As for the vulkan , it sure promises to improve things and I believe it will be an improvement. How much exactly, it is too soon to tell.
Not yet. We don't have a proper MiG-23, other than an AI controlled, low-polygon version. A high-fidelity module is being developed so when it comes out, I till cover it.

Odd combinations of types squared off in these theatres that you don't normally hear about because it's not Americans beating the stuffing out of some other country. Was there a reason they didn't use their F14s to intercept the Mig25s. After all, that was the reason the US approved export of the F14 in the first place.
Well, there was a limited number of them and this is relatively late in the war so I assume they might have been saving them a bit. It must have been that they sent what was available at that moment in that place.

Iran has never attacked Iraqi cities, do not distort history, there is no evidence for your words, Colonel Fereydon Izdesta is in the United States, it is enough to refer to this person's interviews to resolve the misunderstanding. The operation took place on the Jordanian-Israeli border. ruclips.net/video/mG_dMwyCrac/видео.html
Iran bombed Basra and Baghdad with aircraft and scuds. I know people from Iran and Iraq who lived there during the war. 2 of them even have military service, the other being a child in Baghdad who remembers the air raid alarms and bombings. Yes. Originally, it was meant for the delivery of nuclear weapons. Quite good when you think of it. If I remember well, it was the Iraqiis who asked the Russians to adapt it for conventional bombs too.
@@showtime112 Nonsence young man!!!! Mig-25 was never designed as deliver of nuclear bombs. It was only high altitude interceptor!!! Later some aircraft were converted to reconnaissance. Precisely because of its speed and reach altitude of 27-30 km.

I think very few people were not surprised to hear about that when they heard about it But then, Iran did the logical thing and just kept the aircraft.
I believe this feature was originally developed for nuclear bombs. And on a recon version, not interceptor. But the Iraq figured out they could use them as a terror weapon. It would have been much better to just use them for reconnaissance.
Iraqi Mig-25RB was a specialized bomber version able to carry 8 * 500kg bombs coupled with onboard computer the pilot was able to toss these heavy bombs a safe distance away from target and still hit then turn around and head home with very high speed, making it impossible for Iranians to catch them. Thanks to the Mig-25s fuel capacity it had the range to comfortably fly all the way to the Iranian capitol Tehran and other cities far away from the border.
Don't forget this is the same country that literally improvised a Dassault Falcon business jet to bomb a US ship. It's got quite a history with such experiments
It can theoretically be used at night although its capabilities are extremely limited in that area. The combat radius is estimated to be about 120 nml but that can vary a lot.
Impressive, the F5 hit him with it's two 20mm's, those guns don't really carry much of a load, he couldn't have had more than 2, or 3 good squeezes on the trigger before the guns were empty.
@@Adam-gf3jg Well, numerous sources claim the same thing. Soviets only gave their clients basic training with rigid tactics. Arabs, Indians, Somalis..... I have yet to find any different stories.
@@showtime112 Iran entered the war against Iraq with less than 30 F-14A and 12 of them with almost none combat capabilities due to poor maintenance and lack of backup materials plus inexperienced crews to keep their F-14s running therefore they used the F-14 as Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS). The Iranian AIM-54 phoenix missiles wasn't active as well due to the same reason above. All in all the Iranian F-14s wasn't big deal at all nor represent any real threat to the Iraqi air force or it's pilots but opposite it was an easy hunting, it have been shoot down many time by Iraqi MIG-21s and even SU-22 not to mention the victories of Mirage F-1s and MIG-23s. At the end of the war with Iran the Iraq air force became more powerful and the 4th largest air force in the world in that time, however during the 8 years of war against Iran the Iraqi air force lost only 34 air craft in air combat through 400000 combat sorties, now in simple equation 400000 / 34 = in every 11764 combat sorties Iraqi air force lost one aircraft in air combat and this is conclusive proof of impotence of the Iranian F-14s and air force together to face the Iraqi air force.
@@Adam-gf3jg I suppose you found that in some book from 1984. If that were really so, then Iraqis would have simply driven to Tehran and Iran would have been defeated in a matter of months. Col (ret) Zare-nejad has done several super interesting interviews on this subject, but sadly there are no English versions.
He had sateted everytime that for many year he was also ignored by his Iranian colleagues and commanders who didn't believe him and suffered him a lot by banning him from many of his rights! But finally the late IRIAF commander (Gen. Sattari) became able to confirm this kill and tried his best to give Zare-Nejad many credits and financial awards, but he refused most of the financial ones (if I recall right).
I found those interviews but unfortunately, couldn't use them. Thanks for sharing this additional info!

I actually did that story but it was a Patreon exclusive video. But thanks for the suggestion.
So, TigerII got the venerable Mig25 the same way Chuck Yeager explained how P51s could get a Me262: when they were on final approach and low on fuel.
Something like that. Theoretically, Sopwith Camel could shoot down an F-22 (although that would be a one in a billion chance).
@@showtime112 Speed continues to be life, as Interceptors must work to be at the right place at the precise right time (why even a MiG25 could not reach an Airliner). Good luck with that when your opponent is flying a Mach 3 Machine at 85000' and out running SA2s by applying more throttle.
Iraqi mig 25 was waiting for Iranian B - 747 with full ammunition’s & wapens cargo’s coming form turkey, however it was registered as a passenger airplane.. the mige 25 flying in one path going to the edge of border and back to be meets and hunting that 747.. Looks like you have both an AIM-9P and an AIM-9B, was that typical for Iranian F-5's?
That's perceptive :) I think they were mostly using AIM-9J. That version is not available for F-5 in DCS. In this scenario, it was a non factor anyway.

I wonder why the F-5 leader didn't let his wingman take a shot with his Sidewinders. Or did both of them have malfunctions?

Iran's air superiority was so great that if it had bombed Iraqi cities, the war would not have lasted more than a week and there would have been no need for large-scale operations such as H3. The operation took place on the Jordanian-Israeli border.

WTF?! Using the fastest interceptor in the world to drop gravity bombs? Derp. No wonder those idiots fought WW1 style war for years.
