- RECOVERING AN ELECTRIC BIN LORRY TO LONDON! UK HEAVY VEHICLE RECOVERY!
-------
I'm Steve, a Heavy Vehicle Recovery Driver from the South of England. I've been involved in vehicle recovery all my life, from a young age working in a family-owned car recovery business and acquiring the licences necessary to operate some of the largest vehicles on the road, to eventually working for some of the largest recovery firms in the UK.
I've set up this channel to provide insights into the world of recovery and whether you're here to learn more about recovery in the UK or just interested in seeing the action - I hope you thoroughly enjoy the videos!
During 2024 - my channel will provide content on the following, so feel free to subscribe if this is of interest you!
How to start a career in Heavy Vehicle Recovery for the newcomers looking to take the plunge
POV style videos of recovering Heavy Good Vehicles (HGVs) out in the UK roads
Walkaround style videos of the largest heavy recovery vehicles in the UK
Drone footage in Intro from Marian Croitoru.
Note - these are not training videos.
It's always a joy seeing the different neighborhoods along the way as well as the routine of your job. Thanks again Steve!
Always love the terminology differences between British and American as well.
Glad you enjoyed it Seth , your welcome.
I love the fact that technology has delivered us electric vehicles but we still call them "dust carts" :)
Thanks for watching .
Is it just me, or does the recovery truck sound fantastic!!!
Thanks for watching .
Great video, I like the fact that it had to be a BMW driver that undertook you at the lights, those guys never disappointed us with their priority driving.
Thanks for watching , glad you liked it.
Hi Steve thanks for another excellent video 😊 so glad you found the isolator switch! Damaging a main battery cable could result a bin lorry that not only collects rubbish but incinerates as well 😊 take care mate Gary 😊.
Thanks for watching Gary , will do mate cheers.
Interesting point for me in this video, taking half gears up that hill, I actually thought your motor was an automatic. Testimony to your smooth gear changes Steve!
Thanks for watching , Daf is a manual 16 speed.
@@HeavyRecoverywithSteve 4 over 4 with half gears?
ZF16 Eco split Superb Transmission
I really enjoy these longer clips of uninterrupted driving (uninterrupted editing-wise, not traffic ;) ) Great driving as always Steve
Glad you enjoyed it matt , thanks for watching , cheers.
Quality Steve.
Cheers Steve.
Thanks Steve, the driving bits are the best parts of your videos.
Your welcome , will keep on filming the driving parts .
Unhurried, unflustered(despite others passing on both sides), then threads the whole outfit smoothly along busy roads and round tight corners straight to the destination-another top job done Steve! Thank you for taking us along👍 Michael
Thanks for watching and kind comments Michael.
Another video, heck yea. Thanks Steve.
Thanks for watching.
Real relaxing to watch you at work Steve. Great video again 😊
Glad you enjoyed it , thanks for watching.
A very good Sunday evening to you all from Wellington Somerset
Good evening Dave.
Thanks Steve. Another masterful recovery. Looking forward to the next one.
Cheers Steve professional as always.
Hi Gary thanks again for watching.
Cool video!
Glad you enjoyed it
Another great job Steve, great narration and great to see the driving part of your journey. Keep the videos coming as I look forward to seeing them all. Stay safe as always.
Thanks for watching and kind comments Stuart .
I'm laughing watching you with that propshaft thinking of my late dad's tales of removing kingpins from lorries on the M6 during one of those freezing cold 1970s winters. Always nice to get a proper mechanic's handshake off someone and know that they'd be able to get you out of Dodge when needed.
Great episode this one. We've got some leccy buses over here in Norway, but very few leccy lorries gone past my way.
Hi Martin thanks for watching and comments , real men in those days doing heavy recovery mate , must be tuff to work out in your winters doing this type of work.
@@HeavyRecoverywithSteve Yeah, he told me some hairy stories about the pre-motorway days too. There's a National Geographic series called Ice Road Rescue and one of the drivers is from where I work. They drive for Falck.
Its been too long Steve, I have missed your videos please keep them coming.
Watching you navigating that traffic its true you are not only driving yours you are driving every one else's.
Keep safe Steve, best regards Ken
Hi Ken thanks very much for watching , glad you like them , will try and find more to film.
There was a single deck bus being recovered from a bus layby near me. The recovery driver was under the vehicle. My first thought was it looked dangerous. My second thought was Steve has told you it can only fall as far as the under is off the ground so it is perfectly safe. Ty for the videos :)
Thanks David for comments , we do get some funny looks when working under vehicles on the road its not safest job at times but we try limit risk with stands.
Those roads!
I'm so pleased I live in the North East of England.
Hi Jack thanks for watching .
Great video Steve, very interesting to see around the electric bin lorry. Keep up the good work and have a good week mate 👍
Hi Anthony glad you found it of interest , you too mate.
Hi Steve, another great job done. And the usual quality calm and collected driving skills. I won't say what I think about electric vehicles and ulez! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching again James , your very welcome.
Its good to see you again steve. Its a pity you don't do the longer distance recoveries.
Thanks for watching , yer most of our work is fairly local really.
Hi Steve your videos are relaxing to watch keep up the hard work and stay safe out there 💜
Thanks for watching , will do mate.
Great video again. Always wondered about how you do Ev lorries. Great to see you at the depot Friday night
Thanks! You too David take care see you soon.
That Nearside front tire on the dust cart. The tread look pretty low in the middle. Or it may have been a different tread pattern to the offSide one. Great video have a great week ahead 😊
Thanks for watching Christopher , must been camera footage , you too mate.

Your very welcome.
Keep up the hard work and stay safe out there Steve
Thanks Chris , will do mate cheers.
Great video as usual. I drove Denis elite for years and then moved on to Mercedes Econic bin lorries. Huge improvement. However, I'd be interested to know how the electric perform under a 9 hour shift battery wise. Anyway, good to see you back on yt.
Thanks for watching and comments , cheers.
Good to see you again Steve.. loving the content my friend.
Glad you liked it , Cheers for watching.
Thanks, great video on how to recover an Electric truck, looks like it's been recovered before by the marks on the frame underneath.
Thanks for watching!
Cheers Steve!
Your welcome.
R&S to the rescue!!!
Thanks for watching .
Thanks Steve for another video even though it was rubbish!!!
Thanks your welcome.
Another good job Stev👍
Hi Ken thanks for watching , have been watching yours mate too and commented , keep them coming good to see channel growing , take care mate.
Nice video, thank you
Glad you liked it!
You must have grey hair Steve! OMG i couldn't do it. That stupid car at 43:48, makes you wonder if people have eyes doesn't it. And then the Merc transporter after that! Cheers for the vid mate.
Thanks for watching Cheers.
Great video Steve👍.
Glad you enjoyed it James.
I thought the isolators only turn off the high voltage lines? Most electric cars/vans still have a 12V battery so lights and interior features will still turn on even without a HV battery connected
Thanks for watching Oliver , hope it did turn off the high voltage system.
Excellent video, London traffic is even worse than it used to be, glad I an retired now😎
Glad you enjoyed it , happy retirement.
@@HeavyRecoverywithSteve Cheers
A23 Brighton Rd Purley, absolutely f..king awful road!😂😂😂
Hi Andy , glad you recognised route in to Croydon lol.
Give me a Diesel and Manual Transmission anyday nothing will replace the mighty Diesel ❤
Couldn't agree more!
If you watch this on x2 speed it’s still slower than your normal loading times mr 5 a day 😂💪🏻
Thanks for watching , i am slowing down with age , you will soon be catching me up.
Hi Steve
Hi Jacob.
Have u towed any of the electric buses yet?? As be interesting to see if they can be towed, as i was informed that they cannot be towed like the diesels can?
Hi David yes towed in a few now mate . Some have conventional axles with half shafts so you need to remove both shafts like this Dennis , others have electric motors on axles so best to rear lift or disconnect the wiring to the motors but only be towed short distance at slow speed.
Looks like a newish truck. Bit more weight on this one.
Hi Paul , yer more weight these electric vehicles.
What a treat thanks for the video steve much appreciated ❤
Your welcome thanks Harry.
Great video Steve nice to see a professional at work and obviously enjoys is work
Thanks for watching David , not a bad job when then sun is shinning.
@@HeavyRecoverywithSteve i Steve having been a truck driver for over 40 years and having one or two breakdowns I know how hard you lads work keep the videos coming mate when you can
Ugh, what a terrible drive later on. You mentioned somewhere it's London... No separated buslanes even though plenty of busses can be seen, of course everybody drives on the wrong side of the road, those houses all subject to the smell and noise of non stop traffic, probably all day and night, up to 3 lanes wide in places, no separated cycling lanes, just some paint on the streets. Barely any sidewalks, and of course nobody walking or cycling... And they call it the capital of the United Kingdom... More like a remote corner of hell for Traffic and city designers and planners...
Thanks for watching and comments.
2 video same week wow we are treated 😂😂
Thanks for watching Dave.
Hi 👋🏻
Hi Ian thanks for watching.
@@HeavyRecoverywithSteveno problem Sir always look forward to seeing your videos
Awesome video Steve as always, i'm not into electric trucks/car they look nice but thats it, you keep safe out there Steve see you on the next one.
Thanks, you too!
Very interesting to see a electric vehicle recovery . I not convinced electric vehicles are the future .great video sir
Glad you found it of interest Ian , starting to recover them now mate from all makes.
just lift the back up. lol. hmm odd. no need for the prop then.
If only it would be that easy mate.
@@HeavyRecoverywithSteve that is why my friend had 1st call out on the M40 in the UK .
😂
Thanks Peter for watching.
Anybody else trying to rub the blob off screen?
Hi Robert , yep that stone chip is annoying in middle of windscreen.
Electric Lorrys arnt great
Thanks for watching , starting to see more companies using them now.
Those electric truck will keep you busy for the rest of your career. Never going to be as reliable as petroleum powered ones.
Thanks for watching.
