    Greg 2 bits of scaffold plank cut to the inside size of your spec then pop them in as you put the spec down and it will lift and roll the vehicle off the spec and keep any splitters or undertray clear.

    The number of times they spend longer arguing over setting a red X that the red X would be needed if they simply turned said "Get in your van, I'll call your mobile as soon as it's set", then you could be away with minimal lane closure time.

    If the Evoque is AWD should the tyres be replaced on the same axle?

    • @rickycunningham6368
      @rickycunningham6368 День назад

      Ah, the timeless dilemma of tyre replacement-it's not just about the cash, it's about the crash (or avoiding it)! Here’s the deal with your Range Rover Evoque: you’ve got a sophisticated all-wheel-drive (AWD) system that’s as picky as a toddler with vegetables. Let’s break this down in a way that’s both practical and, well, slightly ridiculous.
      The Scenario:
      Your tyre’s gone kaput-maybe you hit a pothole that looked like it was hiding a portal to Narnia, or perhaps it fell victim to some rogue nails left by a vengeful DIY enthusiast. Either way, you’re now pondering: one tyre, two tyres, or all four?
      Why You Shouldn't Replace Just One Tyre:
      Replacing a single tyre is like showing up to a formal dinner in one flip-flop and one designer shoe. Sure, it technically works, but everything feels off-balance. Here’s why:
      1. Tread Depth Mismatch
      Your AWD system likes balance. If one tyre has more tread than the others, it confuses the drivetrain. It’s like your car is trying to dance the cha-cha while one wheel is doing the Macarena. This imbalance can lead to:
      Premature wear on your differential. (Translation: $$$ repair bills.)
      Increased risk of slipping or losing control, especially on wet or icy roads.
      2. Handling Issues
      Imagine running a marathon with one leg shorter than the other. That’s your car if you replace just one tyre. Steering becomes unpredictable, and cornering feels more like gambling than driving.
      This makes wet conditions extra fun (sarcasm alert). You’re basically inviting hydroplaning to join your road trip.
      3. Stability Concerns
      Your Evoque’s stability control system was designed assuming all tyres are friends, not frenemies. A single new tyre disrupts that harmony, increasing the risk of fishtailing during hard braking or acceleration.
      ---
      Why Replacing Two Tyres on the Same Axle is Better:
      Replacing two tyres on the same axle is the “let’s meet halfway” option. Both tyres will have similar tread depths, so your car’s AWD system won’t throw a tantrum. However:
      If the other two tyres are pretty worn down, this still isn’t ideal. You’re still risking uneven wear and reduced overall traction.
      ---
      The Best Option: Replace All Four Tyres
      Yes, it’s expensive. But so is a new drivetrain. Or a hospital bill. Replacing all four ensures:
      1. Even Tread Wear
      All four tyres work together like a boy band at its peak-syncing perfectly to deliver maximum performance.
      2. Optimal Safety
      Full traction. Full control. No surprises. It’s like giving your Evoque a fresh pair of sneakers instead of trying to mix new trainers with old, worn-out flip-flops.
      3. AWD System Preservation
      Keeps your drivetrain happy, which is cheaper than therapy for a sad gearbox.
      ---
      The Danger of Just One Tyre:
      Let’s paint a picture. You’re driving down a rain-soaked road, feeling invincible in your shiny Evoque. But wait! That single new tyre grips differently than the others. Your car suddenly spins faster than a DJ at a rave. Before you know it, you’re aquaplaning straight into someone’s hedge. Awkward.
      Or worse, in icy conditions, the mismatched grip causes one axle to overcompensate. You lose traction, your car decides to become a figure skater, and now you’re explaining to your insurance why your Evoque is lodged in a lamppost.
      ---
      Funny Takeaway:
      Replacing just one tyre is like shaving only one leg before a date-it might save time and money, but everyone’s going to notice the imbalance, and it could lead to disaster. Replace two if you’re in a pinch, but if you love your Evoque (and your wallet long-term), give it the full set. Safety first, hedge collisions never.

      @@rickycunningham6368 Aye but is the RR system similar to Haldex? IE mostly 2wd until wheels slip. If that's the case tyres all 4 dont need changes but I would think those on the same axle would.

    • @Horizon301.
      @Horizon301. День назад

      Depends on the tread I would imagine, as they weren’t fully worn it might be similar to the existing ones. It’s a risk but dealers advise that it should be fine if you just have the axles replaced, not all 4.

  • @Auditingcontent
    @Auditingcontent 2 дня назад +4

    @mr GbD official, I really enjoy watching your RUclips videos. You've done a fantastic job showing the realities of recovery work - the good, the bad, the challenges with the police and the public, and the job itself. It’s not an easy job, and it’s great to see people like you sharing those insights, especially since companies like the AA, RAC, and Green Flag don’t highlight this side of things.
    I recently spoke with an AA recovery driver in my hometown, and he mentioned that he really dislikes picking up electric vehicles because they’re such a headache. He specifically mentioned Teslas and how they often have to be taken to the dealership. He said he'd never recommend buying one because they cause so many issues. Personally, I’m not a fan of them either. There just seem to be too many problems with these vehicles.
    I’d love to hear your thoughts on electric and hybrid vehicles in the recovery industry and if you’ve encountered similar challenges.

    • @rickycunningham6368
      @rickycunningham6368 День назад

      Oh, National Highways, you absolute geniuses! 🙄 So, let me get this straight: someone breaks down on a "smart" motorway (spoiler: there’s nothing smart about them 🤦‍♂️), and instead of closing the nearest lane with a big red ❌ to protect them, you slap on a lane-divert arrow ➡️ and just monitor compliance. Because, obviously, every driver flying down the M6 at 70mph will totally pay attention to your passive-aggressive symbol. Brilliant. 👏
      And sure, you can call them up for help 📞, but what do they do? Oh, just sit back, monitoring the situation, and reassuring you with empty words while a recovery driver risks their life trying to save yours. 🚨 But actually closing the lane? Nah, that might slow down traffic, and we all know that five minutes off someone’s commute is way more important than, you know, your life. 🚗💨
      Let’s not forget the death trap that is a "smart" motorway. No hard shoulder? No problem! Just park up in one of those magical emergency refuge areas (if you can find one 🚥), and pray the lorries don’t plow into you. And don’t worry, the cameras might notice your breakdown eventually. Oh, wait, there’s an 8-second delay between an accident and the lane being marked as closed. Totally safe, right? 😬
      In theory, this all sounds great-traffic keeps moving, and everyone’s happy. But in practice, people make mistakes, and these policies are an absolute joke. 😂 What’s worse? When it goes wrong, it’s not just a 5-minute lane closure; it’s the entire motorway shut down for HOURS because someone died due to National Highways' incompetence. 🙄
      So here’s a thought: close the damn lane with a red ❌, protect the recovery driver and the stranded people, and stop prioritizing traffic stats over actual human lives. It’s not that hard, is it? 🤷‍♂️
