  • This is a video breaking down what it takes to BREAK 70.
    Finding your shot pattern:
In golf, the shot pattern refers to the dispersion of shots hit by a golfer with a particular club. It's a visual representation of how consistently and accurately a golfer can strike the ball towards their intended target. A tight shot pattern indicates precision and control, with shots closely grouped around the target. On the other hand, a wider shot pattern suggests inconsistency or difficulty in controlling the ball flight. Golfers strive to narrow their shot patterns through practice, technique refinement, and understanding their own tendencies. Achieving a consistent shot pattern is essential for success on the course, allowing golfers to approach each shot with confidence and precision.
    Medium range putting:
Medium-range putting, typically ranging from 6 to 15 feet, holds a pivotal role in a golfer's performance on the green. This distance represents a critical zone where many scoring opportunities arise, making proficiency in medium-range putting crucial for lowering scores. Excelling in this aspect of the game requires a blend of skill, confidence, and mental fortitude. Golfers who can consistently sink putts from this distance gain a significant advantage, as they convert more birdie opportunities and save pars more effectively. Medium-range putting also influences momentum during a round; sinking these putts can energize a player and build confidence, while missing them may lead to frustration and a drop in morale. Therefore, honing one's ability to read greens, control pace, and execute with precision within this distance range is essential for success on the golf course.
    The BOMB off the tee:
Hitting the golf ball further provides several advantages on the course. Firstly, increased distance off the tee can lead to shorter approach shots into greens, giving golfers a better chance to hit more accurate and controlled iron shots. This often translates to more birdie opportunities and lower scores. Additionally, longer drives can provide a buffer against hazards, enabling players to carry bunkers or clear water hazards more easily. Moreover, increased distance off the tee can put pressure on opponents in match play or competitions, as it sets up more favorable positions for subsequent shots. Beyond the competitive aspect, hitting the ball further can enhance the enjoyment of the game, offering a satisfying feeling of power and control. Overall, while accuracy remains paramount, the ability to hit the ball further can significantly improve a golfer's performance and overall experience on the course.

I’m near scratch (0.8) and have broken 70 on several occasions, but I still found this quite helpful. I’ve always had a neutral shot shape and visualized a straight ball flight for as long as I can remember. I’ve always had good hands/feel and creativity around the greens so I’m able to salvage rounds when my ball striking isn’t the best, but I think choosing a consistent shot shape could help with those days where I’m consistently short siding myself and having to lean on my short game.
Also hitting a bomb when you need it is not something I currently utilize or even practice honestly. My stock driver carry is 270ish.. 280 when I’m catching it out of the center but I rarely reach back for more. I think practicing the big drive would definitely help as when I try on the course now I’m likely to snap one left. I tend to get a little quick/stuck.

I had to come back to this video! Before watching this video I was a 8 handicap and couldn’t understand why I wasn’t coming down and dropping shots. The value from this video is absolutely insane! After putting his tips in to practice i played 3 rounds on the weekend, shot a 69 on a par 70, and 2 rounds on my home course (72) (74) - par 72.
This content is unmatched, keep up the great work pal! Would love to see some more break 70 videos in the future!

To your point, I feel like playing the neutral shot has hurt me the most. Was sitting at a +2 for a few years and once I started using DECADE, I think I took it too literally and started just hitting shots and relying on my "general pattern". My quality of strike has not changed its rather, some shots ill bail out of or just my variability brings out the "lesser" shot out more commonly. I notice this a LOT more off the tee and on long approaches.

If your putting inside 8 feet is not automatic don't ever think you will break 70 regularly. i have played with so many elite guys who hit it everywhere and still shoot around par or better because they hole everything inside of 8 feet
