The concrete building is what's commonly called a "pill box". They're relics of the second world war, built as a defence against invasion. Lots of them still survive on the East coast.
Fantastic. We also love our wildlife and grey seals are up there with otters and red deer - absolute favourites. If you are somewhere remote, like the Outer Hebrides, sometimes seals will swim along the beach watching you and my partner, Julie, seems to attract them as we have had seals come right in close to see her. Regarding the pillbox, during WW2 about 20,000 were built very quickly in key locations and also in defensive lines further inland. The longest lines ran from SE London to Bristol in the west and up to Edinburgh in the north. Luckily, only a few saw action when they were attacked during German attacks on our airfields, which also had their own defences.
Oh, I love this! I'm sure that it's such a lovely experience to have them come up to you all. Thank you for the information about the pill box. 🤍 Jess x
Another brilliant day out, you & Chris sure do pick the weather. This is another gem I was unaware of, it's really great that you guys show me parts of my Country I've not seen myself. Great post. 👌🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The east coast can be bitterly cold in winter. It is nice you got to see the seal population. It is great they can be seen without disturbing them. I don't think they have any predators where they are. Possibly the occasional Orca.
It was a cold day but so worth it. Love to see wildlife. Love knowing they're living their best lives here in the UK. It was fun to share all the facts with you all. 🤍 Jess x
Love Poppylands. The seals were by Winterton beach car park later in the week. For somewhere else great to eat check out The Swan at Ingham - reasonable prices if you have the Menu du Jour.
We life not to far from Horsey and by 12th December over 3000 pups had been born with 300 in that week alone. It’s wonderful to see. Also took my mum to Poppy land which is quite unique.
It's such a wonderful experience to see the seals out with their Pups living their best lives here in England! I love I. Thank you for sharing with us. Happy New Year 🤍 Jess x
Beautiful day for you at Horsey. We visit the seal pups at Donna Nook in Lincolnshire where over 2000 pups are born and are virtually in touching distance. It is also an RAF bombing range.....but not during seal pup time.
Donna nook been a few times I think it’s a much better experience the pups are literally about 2 feet away from you just over the fence, I have taken lots of photos of the pups…
Yes, I've noticed that you guys are one of the best respondents in the UTube world. The platform should give prizes for such reliability. Now, let's see what tricks you get up to at the beach.!!!
What a fantastic day out today. A lovely walk along the coast in bright sunshine, and then the seals. Amazing! I'd never heard of Horsey Gap, but it's a real gem. Thank you so much for taking us along. x
It was a pity we had some high tides this week and forced the seals further down the coast, there is normally hundreds along that piece of beach but still a great sight though, it’s surprising how quick the bull seals move considering their size. Poppylands is a little gem in the middle of nowhere, it pays to book in advance during the summer months we often pop over when the grandkids visit.
Cley beach is also a good seal spotting place. Park up and head left along the beach for about a mile and the sals are everywhere. They come up to pup and three can be literally 1000s. We got so close you have to walk around them. Huge things close up especially the bulls.
You consistently upload the most beautiful and interesting videos and thank you for that. The small structure is a 'pillbox', constructed during WWII as part of the defences, in case of a German invasion. It must have been rather chilly out there, those easterly winds can be bitterly cold. Great Britain, a rather crowded island, is fortunate to have a wide range of wildlife, that is willing to live alongside us. Some lovely people are reintroducing species which became extinct in previous centuries, such as Osprey, Bustard and Beavers. Take care!
We are glad that you are enjoying the videos. The "pillbox" is something that I can only image was not as comfortable as we would come to expect today. Although, it is something that was needed then. We love checking out the different types of wildlife, and livestock for that matter. Cheers, Chris
You can see the grey seals and their pups at a number of spots along the east coast at this time of year. Horsey Gap seems to be the best place to visit, though. Those memories will stay with you until the end of your days. Did you know about the RAF bombing range at Donna Nook which ceases its activities at this time of year to allow the pup birthings?
Brilliant and such an eye opener! The seals are so sweet and happy in their world ! East Anglia was a huge Military area during the second world war and there was many and I mean many American Airfields in and around the area so you can still see the remains of a lot of them today! Thanks for sharing Jess and Chris x
The concrete building was a pillbox left over from WW2, it's a defensive position in case of invasion. I live in Merseyside and they are everywhere here. No doubt because of the docks.
Hi Jess and Chris, I really enjoy your reviews and believe they encourage Brits to appreciate our home ground! nice to see you visiting the North East, looking forward to seeing more of your adventures? regards John, hartlepool
That was another superb video. Beautiful coastal views, with the unique attraction of grey seals in their natural habitat, and over the wind I'm sure that I heard Jess talking to the baby seal, or it may have been the seals talking to each other. It's so nice to see the happiness that animals bring to you, Jess and Chris, and that I get to share your experience. You really do bring so much pleasure through your channel, and I never tire of watching joining you. Cheers ! Sheffield South Yorkshire.
Enjoyed that. Big sea. A big 'Mackerel' sky. The waves. The wind. And the wildlife, of course. And the old WW2 blockhouse! Still waiting! They didn't come! 😢
A place I think you would like is Knaresborough, its a beautiful place that is famous for Mother Shiptons Cave, which has a waterfall that turns things to stone 😱. Legend says of a witch that lived there. Theres a gift shop there that sells the petrified items that the waterfall turned to stone
Visited in October 2022 from the car park there was a path to take down to the beach so you were much closer to the seals. There was quite a lot of seals that day including young ones,it was a great experience seeing them in their natural environment ❤
You should have gone to the pub, you could have parked there for free. I used to work in the pub there. Horsey coastline is my favourite place in the whole of Norfolk by far. I grew up on that beach.
We did go to Poppyland after and enjoy a lovely lunch. I did share the pictures at the end of this Vlog. It was cold so we wanted to park a little closer. 🤍 Jess x
That was so special! Such fabulous weather too. What a stunning place. Not a location I've heard of before, so another excellent discovery. Thanks so much for this. It's gin clear today, but we still have plenty of snow and ice everywhere here!
I bet not many Brits knew this 'attraction' exsisted. PS; you have the bald eagle as your national bird, we have psycho seagull, I would not battle with either! LOL! Beautiful vlog guys.
About a mile north is a great caravan and camping site called Waxham sands. We had lots of great holidays and weekend there with our kids. My dog was fascinated by the seals bobbing in the sea looking back at him.
I do love your enthusiasm, you should carry a pair of binoculars. I was fishing off my local beach in Wales when a couple of seals popped their heads up about 10 yards in front of me. They had the same surprised look on their faces that otters have when they suddenly realise someone is only a few yards away. It is quite comical.
Hiya Jess and Chris, you pronounced Horsey perfectly 😃 it's hard to believe this is in the UK but this was a truly privileged moment to witness these beautiful creatures and to see them thriving with over 400 pups born warms my heart so thank you so much for sharing your special day. I would guess that the derelict brick building was probably connected to the war but I'm sure someone will confirm. Have a great Thursday and see you soon my friends. xx Thank you. ♥
Stephen, Fantastic, we always try to say everything correctly, and sometimes we get it wrong. It truly was a wonderful experience! They are just so much fun to watch and see. Loved this adventure to see some magnificent animals and is something we had never experienced before. It was such a beautiful day, appreciating nature at its finest. Thank you, friend, for coming along on all the adventures you do! Happy Thursday 🤍 Jess & Chris x
Yes the old stone building is a pillbox, one of 28,000 constructed in WWII. You will find them all around the coastline and military facilities. They were manned by lookouts/gunners as part of an early defence system.
We went there over 10 years ago outside of pup season expecting to see very little. Sat on the dunes with a flask of coffee with seals about 20 metres away. Top day out. We also to a boat trip out from Blakeney. That was excellent for viewing the seals
Wow Jess you were beaming. Gonna be hard to whipe that smile off your face 😊 I'll never understand why they're called 'pups' when their parents are a bull and cow seal..... surely they should be calves 🤔
Really high quality! You guys must have had some serious upgrades in equipment! PS the wild goats in the Valley of the Rocks send their love! Hope you and Chris can find the time to check out the link I sent you to the Channel 5 video of Kate Humble walking that bit of the coast.
I used to live in looe in Cornwall and a gray seal called Nelson because he had 1 eye used to come up to the beach and people used to feed him 1 year he came back with a girlfriend and 2 pups sssooooo cute nature is beautiful

Those seals have the right idea, relax on the beach all day
💯 other than it being cold. 😉
