  • Isla St Clair features in this award winning music video from the film 'Highland Laddie'. Directed by Patrick King, creator of 'When the Pipers Play', the video was filmed in Edinburgh with the Pipes and Drums of the 6th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland.
Isla's voice is ideally suited for Scottish Soldier and though the words were written with WW2 in mind they are just as relevant today. It is a tribute to all soldiers, not just Scottish.

I'm Scots-Irish. My grandmother had flaming red hair. The sound of the pipes tugs at my heart. I cannot help but weep. This is a beautiful song.

The most beautiful voice I've ever heard. Isla should be known worldwide but is so under-rated. Her folk singing and knowledge of Scottish history is immense.

She has a pleasant and attractive voice especially in the higher register, but I think 'the most beautiful voice I've ever heard' seems well over the top.

I had the honor of meeting Isla St. Clair and Pipe Major Gordon Walker (who had been the personal piper for the Queen Mother) at the Scottish Highland Festival in Estes Park, Colorado in approx. 2005. Not only amazing performers, but very gracious people as well. Will never forget her voice at the Tattoo backed by a couple hundred pipers and literally ringing off the surrounding mountain peaks. Breathtaking!

My grandmothers favourite song . My grandfather died in Lille military hospital on 19/4/19. an injured P.O.W. at the hands of the Germans. My Grandmother brought her 4 children up in difficult times on a very modest war widows pension, her youngest daughter, was my mother. She was only 18months old when her father died in the April and it was the following February before the family were informed. God bless all those servicemen , past and present, who dedicated their lives for us.

I've got friends in the Danish army who have served/are serving along side the British army. They always talk with affection and respect of the British "Squaddies".
Crown Princess Mary of Denmark is of the Clan Donald, which I think means the future King of Denmark ,Prince Christian, will be entitled to wear the tartan, though I don't know which ! Donald or Danish tartan (Scottish World Tartan Register No. 3129 )

The Scots,Irish and Manx are of the Goidelic, us "Taffys" are of the Brythonic with the Kernow (Cornish) Breton and Cumbric. many of us Welsh and Kernow have started to proudly wear the "Cilt" again (no K in the Welsh alphabet).Bagpipes/Bacbib have been documented in Wales since the 10th century. Welsh traditional music declined somewhat with the rise of Nonconformist religion in the 18th century. In recent years there has been a revival in piping in Wales. Show the way Scotland!
