Glad you liked Gurney Plaza so much, it was my go to shopping centre in Penang when I was there in January '24. Its a pity it was raining when you left as there is a a fantastic hawkers food market 2 mins walk further on from the plaza. Another mall you should check out next time you are in Penang is Queensbay mall heading down to towards the airport. Possibly also worth a look is the Sunshine Central mall, was still under construction when I was there. Its in the same area as the train to Penang Hill and the Kek Loc Si temple. Both are definitely worth the time to visit. Just discovered you guys and have been enjoying your work, thanks for the vids

15:58 this is the old st joesph institution which used to be where the mall is now. The preserved building was added to the mall and on the 2nd floor is a really beautiful chapel which is now a museum and considered a to be of european standards.

You guys have to try the cakes and cheesecakes from the Secret Recipe, the size of the cakes and cheesecakes are decent for their prices, ranging around RM12, definitely not as big, size or price of the cakes from the Moody Cow. For a reasonable price, you guys can have a good cake, cheesecake, french pastry from Paul at KL Pavilion. But I've seen from videos that there are quite a lot of good pastry cake shop in Penang, not only in malls, but on the street shop lots.

8:17 the church you see in gray is the immaculate conception church from 1811, originally for the eurasians in penang, there was a saint who visited the church as a priest for a few years before being executed in korea.
Welcome to Penang! Just want to clarify that a lot of the places you mentioned as "still being build", are actually very old places and possibly just dying out due to low business volume.
The mall actually was hit by typhoon during stormy season last few weeks which cause the big glass broken… and seems they are doing maintenance for the particular affected area that made you wonder if it was unfinished built
Penang Hill is actually a tourist trap but it can be easily avoidable if you know what to say no too, but overall it will be worth it to check out Kopi Hutan as it is really a beautiful spot to relax
I would still recommend Penang Hill for the first timer, and would suggest to bundle it with Kek Lok Si temple which locates not too far apart. Pick a less busy weekday, avoid weekends and public holidays, the crowds and queues would be the main factor going to ruin the overall experiences imho.
@@BingoandBinew If you're a hiking person then i would recommend you to hike up the hill, it's just a 1.5 - 2hour trail and arguably easy path (the difficult part is on the distance). It can also save your wallet from the train tickets. There are multiple trails you can take either from the train station, or from the botanical gardens which you were pointing in this video 8:50
Still in Penang? Then you should try Nonya Food, they are the best in Malaysia The homecook dishes is what we call 'Chap Fan* meaning mix rice, you just pick everything you want and just show that to the shop operator, they'll just give you the cost...never over charging.
Why wouldn’t you want to go up Penang hill? It’s not like it’s a wonder of the world kind of place, but yeah, if you skip it you’d probably regret your decision later. The funicular train ride is a memorable experience to behold and don’t forget to visit the Habitat up there.
