  • I tried poke poling for the first time, and it was a lot of fun! Caught countless brown rockfish and monkeyface pricklebacks, as well as a kelpfish and a surprise cabezon!

    Crazy how many fish are right at everyone's feet right in the rocks! Great job!

    I've found that the best holes tend to be deeper but not wide, and have an area at the bottom with an overhang that the fish would hide under. Great video!

    Fun for sure. We did the same down on the south jetty in HMB a week ago during ultra low tide. Got some eels, a baby giant reef fish and lots of crabs. Nice job on this video. 👍🏼

    Yo David its Persky from Emanu-El. This video just popped up and I realized it was you. Our boat is docked at the Marina. If you see me call me over. Those small rockfish make good crab bait. Right now dungeness season is coming to end but if you see me just ask for one. Great video, keep up the grind!!

    Salted shrimp works extremely well. Put them in a bag in the freezer the nite before and let it brine. You won't regret it.

    Little piece of advice, try a longer poke pole (7-12ft), it will make all the difference, and it will be easier to fish comfortably. :)

    • @sf_angler
      @sf_angler  3 года назад

      Thanks for the tip! I'll try to find something longer to use. Hope to see you out there some time!

      Yeah man, totally. I’d suggest cutting a long branch or stalk of bamboo from somewhere around the neighborhood. I personally use 8ft bamboo stalks.

    High or low tide best for this spot?

    • @sf_angler
      @sf_angler  3 года назад

      I'm not too experienced at poke-poling yet, but I found more success at a higher tide. When the water is higher there are a lot more deep holes, and you don't have to climb quite as far down the rocks which makes fishing a lot more enjoyable in my opinion

    • @Numerixx
      @Numerixx Год назад

      I enjoy going at low tide, because at higher tides you usually have to extend your pole a lot deeper to find the holes suitable for a large fish/eel.
