Watch the no talking, sounds only demo: • New! Korg Wavestate - ...
New for 2020, the Korg Wavestate takes the ethos of their classic Wavestation synth from the early 1990's and houses it in a more compact design with a much more "hands-on" approach to the control layout, make it more intuitive and inspiring to use when compared to it's predecessor.
A fully digital synth, the Wave State utilising wave sequencing synthesis, a totally different approach from Korg's analogue synths such as the Monologue and Minilogue, resulting in a very unique, but versatile sound.
Key features of the Wavestate include:
- Wave Sequencing 2.0
- Extensive modulation with hands-on control including vector joystick
- Gigabytes of onboard samples
- Modeled filters, including MS-20 and Polysix
- 64 stereo voices
- 4 Layers with Vector control
- 14 simultaneous effects
- Set Lists and Smooth Sound Transitions
- Compact. Great design. 37 full-size keys.
- Designed by Korg R&D in California

I love how focused Luke is while playing this synth. It's pure meditation. For me this is the most interesting keyboard synth that has come out in recent years. Starting to save up for this right away...
And the price is not really high
The5th Volt Agreed! And I just bought a Starr Labs Z7S last week, and now I see this....... 😮
Almost bought the Deep Mind 12, Hydra or Argon 8.
Glad I waited to see this years stuff.
Preordered Wavestate, and can't wait to get my hands on it :-)
@@TheScreamingFrog916 The one does not exclude the other :-)) i have 3 Deepminds 12 (3 layers of analog), then 2 JD-800s (2x4 layers digital) and now i ordered the Wavestate (4 digital layers)
I cancelled my Wavestate order as first it was 4 days delay, then 11 days, now it's 20 weeks !!! I am patient but i hate false information !
Awesome synthesizer, and Luke Edwards is hands down, the best at showing what it is capable of.
On the strength of his demos alone, I have preordered one already.
I haven't been this excited about a synth since I had my Wavestation EX
Luke is one of the best presenters I’ve seen
Agreed.
He gets so much out of this synth, and communicates its capabilities so clearly.
It's a joy to watch him play with it.
Yep, definitely one of the best for playing ability and technical knowledge delivery
Indeed!
Got it since a few days....
It’s really great, very inspiring piece of gear.
It sounds like the perfect synth for me - I love those gorgeous evolving pads and tinkling arps...very ambient and dream-like. It's a bit of a pad factory, really, and fantastic for creating lush backdrops. I see a retail price for the keyboard of £650 here in the UK, which doesn't seem too bad. Just a shame I'm not in the market for yet another hardware keyboard - I wish Korg would release this in VST format, too. I would buy it in a heartbeat!
Fantastic synth demo. It also sounds incredible.
This got me playing with Wave Sequencing on my Kronos. Made some nice evolving pads.
Excellent review Luke
this is brilliant on so many levels
Nearly half the price of a Jupiter-Xm but sounds way better and so much more sound flexibility! Go Korg!
*Yup, that what i am thinking too ;)*
No,no the two together. That is the world!
I thought the Jup sounded good until I heard this!!! damn! I am looking into pre-order, I am so impressed plus I have used Korgs in the past, nice to see something old/new and beyond put together in bliss
@@Gibson1976uk "something old/new and beyond put together in bliss"
Well put. Perfect description.
My friend has the Jupiter, it’s junk.
It’s got that inception vibe. Nice.
Korg is killing it lately. Like any synth, there are things I wish were a little different, but this, the opsix, and the minilogue xd are awesome instruments.
PMT is the store I usually buy most of my new studio equipment from. Looks like I will be visiting my store to get this
Love at First sight! Can't wait any longer...
“Evolving landscapes” , you had it right the first time Luke.
Super demo
Finally i have now outher amazing korg in my gear family 😉👌
Sounds great. A lot of the sounds are reminiscent of the Korg MS2000 and Novation Super Nova to me.
I want one of these!
Nice video & playing! I got a WS at the end of December...amazing machine! But my Mod knobs don't map to those values like yours do. I just get a bunch of numerical values & I'm not sure how to map them to anything.
I would think you can change The BPM to match your other Synths so it is playing at the same tempo or speed??
Can you transfer the sequences as MIDI to a DAW?
Getting one
Hey! Great presentation by Luke! Just acquired my wavestate! Awsome! What patch / program is Luke playing as first ‚song‘? Is it a patch programmed in the Korg from factory? Would love to have that patch!
16:00 You had me but then you played the Superman music. Now you REALLY have me
Can someone answer me please if i can sequence one bass
hytm preset and play solo\improvisin on another preset separately on this synth?
On Performance Strings preset there's a slight delay when pressing the keys, how can I fix that?
Is it possible to just sequence notes or chords without dealing with the lanes? Just use it like a simple sequencer? If yes, how? I have the keyboard a week and can't figure it out.
good to see the old wave station back ..just needs A/D version capabilities and i am sold
What's A/D abbreviation?
@@Paradroidx Basically means Analogue to Digital converter built in with line in for own samples and vocooder features i quote "Wavestation A/D (1991) - It was the first rackmount version of the Wavestation technology. Korg replaced the large joystick with a smaller version, the same display from the keyboard versions was retained, and an additional RAM bank added. A unique feature was its analog inputs, capable of accepting guitar, mic and line-level signal; it allowed the effect processors to process those signals in realtime (particularly useful with the vocoders in the new EX effects). All of the keyboard's front panel buttons also survived the transition, making the programming process identical to the original Wavestation. The A/D inputs also were an option when creating wave sequences, incorporating the input signal into the synthesis engine in realtime.
@@MrHarney Ah ok interesting thanks
Nice instrument ! What would be the "best" one to add another and built a 2 keyboards gear ? Thk !
Can I incorporate this to work thru my Korg M3, and the other way aroind?
So I don't need a computer or daw to use and record with it?
I hope they come out with the Wavestate A/D that lets you add you own samples.
agreed...That would be awesome !!!
I certainly hope that an update will make it possible to add my own samples.
But for now the really big library will do.
Must have! -When are you likely to be shipping #PMTVUK ? Should play nicely with 01/W, DX7, P6 and Korg Odyssey :)
Finally, a real game changer synth arrives on the scene. Korg I wish I could buy this as a vst. It would be so much more useful inside computer.
Right, midi notes would easily time quantize. But instead its just audio like any other synth
Hello... How many simultaneously tracks in step seq ? We're in touch, thnks.
This will sit nicely alongside the Nautilus.
Does this have drum samples or do you have to program your own? Same with bass?
Where can i find the bundlle with my wavestate ?
great !
8:28 - Very Tangerine Dream's Love on a Train.
Are all of these sounds already built in or do you have to purchase those?
Is this synth 4-part independent multitimbral?
You sold me on this with the Superman/Skyrim transition... Incredible. Hoping for a module version as well... Give me that with 88 keys !
well, it's not that big :-)) hardley bigger then a module :-))
Just get a MODX8. Very similar sounding, but with 88 hammer action.
Would this sit nicely alongside my XD?
This synth deserves a five octave version!
Sold out everywhere 'til July
Hello, does anyone know whether i can control other synthesizers via midi with the sequencer?
Yes you can. There is midi out.
Sold my Jdxi...Got this one 👍👍😊
I am thinking of canceling my preorder.
I have already assembled another synth from scratch, including etching my own PCB and buying parts from china, since I preordered my Wavestate, and still no word on when it will ship.
First it was end of January, then February, then end of March, now middle of April.
I am starting to reconsider weather I would have more fun building more synths, rather than waiting indefinitely for my Wavestate to ship.
And normal 'full size' keys. I'm buying one... maybe two. This is a landmark in synth design. Well done Korg.
Anyone have it yet? What are your thoughts? I'm probably gonna get one in a few weeks. Ive got enough analog stuff to fill that gap. These sound really good in my opinion. A little post production could really make some nice tunes!
does that star wars patch come with it? sounds spot on!
Guys, you have to listen on headphones! OMG THIS sounds HUGE!!!
lol... most modern reverbs sound huge, you can get the same huge sound with the Wavestation plugin sent to a modern reverb plugin
@@layzer80 agreed to a very limited degree, with the plugin you do not have the same amount of control, choice of filters, hands-on control and a lot more.
shabbee Yiure right . I have the iwavestation.. Not even close
Rather than releasing this as a VST, this should be part of a host app for improvisation for ambient techno, or an event
Does it come with a sustain pedal? No. Okay I have one anyway. I think I might need it when this shows up at my door. No hold on it except for the Arpeggiator. Great keyboard and I bought it after hearing it for a split second.
Same here, preordered right away.
I use an expression pedal on some of my synths, for sustain, so I can rock it forward to hold a sound, and it will hold when I take my foot off.
Its LUUUKE FROM KAAAAAWG!!!!
Here is hoping for a module version!
better yet, a plugin version
there is a module version.
@@layzer80 Nooooo, i need hardware because my studio had to remain DAWless !!!
@@WengStansWorld not yet, that was the Wavestation in the 90s
4:28.... music?
Now waiting for this. This one is the most interesting synth I've seen in years. Now waiting to be authorized to do extra hours so I can recover my bank account (currently... 0,00$... thank you behringer...)
Odd how each manufacture has become brilliant: Drum kit:Yamaha with sabian cymbals......Acoustic Piano:Kawai their upright pianos are lush, so good......Synth and needing Piano sound from a digital....well my Roland Juno 88 makes me weep because it sounds so good. I just got a Korg prologue and it is great fun and easy to use, and it cost me a thousand pounds. My fav synth is my Roland Juno 6.Having tried many good synths please try: Roland Juno DS (impossible to edit but the downloadable piano sounds will make you weep) ........so a Roland Juno DS88 and a Korg Prologue is my current setup.
one finger musician's dream synth 2.0... the original WS was 1.0
lol
jajajajajaja
Honestly the only thing missing here is having the ability to use your own custom samples/wavetables which is why the Wave 2 fits my needs better
I cant remember what this theme is being played here 15:57
John Hubbard its the Superman theme with Christopher Reeves.
Hydrasynth and super 6 can envy this one for its total beauty
I would still have the Super 6 over any other new synth.
@@fortheloveofnoise ok. Then I might get it one day. Have to sell something
This and de xm together for the same price as the 6.
@@dirkkeersmaekers4343 true
this and grandmother together the mind boggles
But can you play jump?
Hehe...right!..just waiting for people to attack it for not being an arranger keyboard
No, nor "On the Run" !
The only question that EVER needs to be asked about a new synth
Super demo as always Matt I think I need to block you lol my wallet can't take it anymore. Good to see this area of synthesis re-visited and for a reasonable price too . Love my Minilogue XD and Prologue 16 , the new Wavestate will make a worthy addition.
One thing is in my head after listening all those demos. If you have 4 layers of sound and... only one stereo output, then: or you have to play 4 times the same melody, or automate input notes and modulations in DAW, because nobody want to have stereo bus track with drums, bass and synth together inside mix...
It could be nice if this synth was able to record 4 layers separately into usb stick.
@@montazownianr1 I was thinking along the same lines, separate audio channels out for each layer, through usb, for recording in your DAW.
Considering how hardware intensive that would be to implement, I doubt we will see this in a software update.
That's a good point. I don't know why the USB doesn't carry audio. It's 4 part multimbral so maybe you can put each layer on a different midi track in daw/mpc and then bounce the audio tracks separately? Did you find a solution?
Thought I had become immune to GAS...
it's cute and it's funky......
Now, It's time to show us a wavetable VOLCA synth KORG :)
10:48...😲👍🎛🎹
but it does sound awesome.
good reverb makes a difference
I hope it feels better then it looks (looks very plasticky) and that the presets with the trancy boemboem can be deleted. I'm sold on the pads and soundscapes though and would buy it after hearing other demos like ruclips.net/video/A3qcOrgoE2A/видео.html
wow nearly brought a sub 37 for double the price!!!! sorry moog hello korg im in 100% guaranteed customer coming up thhhank youuuuuuuuuu walk the middle road everybody x
This is like “nearly bought a bike, but now I’m gonna get me an iPad”. Quite different things.
I'm selling my nord a1 to buy one of these.. I thought I would NEVER sell my nord!
Did you sell your A1 for the wavestate? I have an A1 as well... hmmm
@@jokchung nah kept it but considering selling the wavestate now lol terrible interface and a bugger to program
@@guthyrenker bro is the interface/programming that bad? How is the sound? I am very interested in getting the wavestate - those pads
@@jokchung it sounds great but to me programming is not intuitive ie loads of menu diving etc.. if you can get you head around the interface then go for it but personally for me it's not my go to.
It is missing the ability to use my own samples as part of "a bunch of little samples". This is a huge omission
I felt that way too when they first announced this, then I played and programmed one. Now I just think of sample import as something that would be nice to have, but not critical to the instrument.
@@strangersun7721 they added it in an update recently
Uh oh, my wallets looking at me funny.
The only thing I do not like is that it makes it so easy that a complete non musician who knows nothing about playing Keyboards can press 1 key and fool everyone into thinking he knows what he or she is doing. But Then again thats what so many young people want is instant gratification.
But even with that 1 button, it won't last long because the novice fool doesn't know chord progressions or anything about what music is supposed to do
And that is you hear why many songs sounds the same
Trust me. I know and understand what you are saying. However, if I may make an analogy. If it is possible for an illiterate person to think and express well-thought out and profound ideas orally, but does not know how to put them down on paper without some assistance by, let's say, a computer program that can take what one says and transpose to whatever informal/formal/foreign language one wants and adjust for errors in syntax, would that make that person's ideas any less valid?
I guess what I'm saying is, is it possible for someone to hear great music in their heads, but not have the capacity to get them to their fingers by way of conventional musicianship, and it is any less valid than someone who has hackneyed musical ideas, but can play them well.
Just food for discussion. Cheers.
now imagine what it could do in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing
I played guitars all my life, then I sold everything. I bought Privia 560. Now I have been studying keyboards for 2.5 years. I know all the chords and I can calmly play songs))))))) This Korg is wonderful. Hello from Russia!
Beter to show more Kronos movies, i,m begging for it
Demos are about NEW arrivals... Kronos is euuuuuhhhh.... not so new any more :-)) LOL
This is a weird synth, it got a very excellent piano sample.
Seems like this can be done just as easily with th Oasys.
or even a free WT soft synth like Vember Audio Surge
Error nope 🤣
@@shabbee Do you have an Oasys? Don't make me dust mine off and take a stab at it.
@@gorsignups i cant imagine any amount of dusting will make it sound the same...similar maybe but dust it off, let's
Hear it in action!👍
where does it say that Surge can wave sequence?
Korg Montage ……...
Very cool synth but stylistically I think we've finally reached into a past too recent ago for nostalgia to have any baring.. unless spiderman is what you consider as a defining moment for your generation. Idk
I was too young to know about the wavestation when it was a thing. as someone who grew up on music from that era but who was too young to know about the gear, it's cool to see instruments from that time getting an update today.
Piano is really great.(Important)
it s a gaz factory
Very 80s
Why is it saying "Gay" at the beginning?
in my humble opinion, it is a good idea but the format is not. Korg should have made this synth in the Volca series. USD 800 is too much for this sound technology.
Bottom line: Really??? Film/TV directors are going to pay top dollar for music/scores for something their child or doggie could do just for stepping on the keys and shtupping around the knobs???
Heh. Crafting something memorable amongst a sea of options is not the cake walk you suppose. A tool is limited only by the creativity of its owner.
Definitely not your grandfather's Wavestation.
😂🤣
Very expensive price for a piece of plastic))
Is not the outside but the inside that counts;-)
That plastic is precisely why you are getting such depth and capability at this pricepoint. Accessibility and output quality surpass aesthetics.
I’m just not feeling the color. Spice it up.
sam got dat beat sidique Agreed. Some type of metallic green, or flat white even. Personally, my request would be a light brown with dark brown lettering. You know, like a good coffee packaging. Lol. But for real.
They keeep making the same color skim. Like it’s the age of taking chances. Switch it up with colors. That will attract people. Boring black and gray is played out
