    Just today i found an xbox clear at savers for $15, not working for parts with no cords/controllers was on the label. Turns out it was just a jammed disc tray with Halo trapped inside. Thanks to this channel. Was a good day :)

    Fully tearing down the original Xbox really does make you realize how big the fucker is, doesn't it? I like the touch of adding that label at the end, I should do that when I repair consoles even if I'm going to keep them just to remind myself or as you said the future owner on what has been done.

    • @The_SegaHolic
      @The_SegaHolic  6 лет назад

      I don't need to tear it down to know how big it is. LOL. What surprises is that adding a 3.5 HDD and disc drive makes it so huge! And that airflow was maximized for cooling. That label, again, I really meant to say and emphasize, that WE ARE ONLY CARETAKERS OF OUR STUFF, OF WHAT WE OWN. We will die someday, and the label may help the future owner, who may just want to catalog this stuff, so it's know what's original and what was worked on, etc.
      I was thinking of when I was working for an appliance repair company, and our computers had the repair history, purchase date, the technicians repair notes on what was done, what parts were ordered, etc. It was very comprehensive.
      Anyways, thanks for commenting.

    I thought u were going to remove that rust... ;-)

    • @The_SegaHolic
      @The_SegaHolic  6 лет назад +2

      I don't don't even try to remove rust on RF shields anymore. You end up just scratching the hell out of em, or stripping off the zinc coating. Use rust removers? They can cause a chemical reaction if you use the wrong cleaner and you can poison yourself. I just clean of the rought stuff it's flaking or sandpaper looking. The rust like the one in this one aint bad. I don't see this getting any worse than this, as long as the interior is clean.
      I was thinking of doing Electrolytic rust removal, but you need to coat the bare metal where the rust was right away, otherwise, it will just start to oxidize and rust almost right away.
      You're just fighting a losing battle. Best to just clean the surface and leave as is....
      unless you're will to shoot it with rust paint. But that's not me. I don't add stuff that cannot be undone and returned to true stock.

    • @LFOSyncToo
      @LFOSyncToo 6 лет назад

      have you ever tried stuff like evaporust ? but yeah I understand where you're coming from...

    • @The_SegaHolic
      @The_SegaHolic  6 лет назад +1

      Damn, that seems like a promising, and water-based to boot. But again, you're cleaning to bare metal, and it'll just start rusting right away unless you coat it. But thanks for sharing that. I'll definitely look into that for when I run into rust that I have to remove.

    • @LFOSyncToo
      @LFOSyncToo 6 лет назад

      Yeah you could have a try at it on a test metal shielding and see if rust comes again. Don't know if the stuff is easily obtainable in Hawaï, but in Germany it's hard to get. The rust doesn't come again after treatment if you respect the procedures (and don't stock your restored stuff under a shower afterwards). Plus, it's safe on electronics. So I can't see no problem dipping entire MBoards in the stuff (for rusted connectors for example)

    • @The_SegaHolic
      @The_SegaHolic  6 лет назад

      Looks like I can get it pretty easy. Yeah, I was reading about how safe it was on other materials.
      I was really looking into electrolisis, and that procedure pretty much does what evaporust does- water based and safe, even for dumping into the drain, and even watering plants.
      But every video I seen where you clean rusted metal,L, and of course, if you're cleaning rust, once the rust is removed, you're at the bare metal... and once bare metal is exposed to air, it starts to rust- right away. Th'at's why you need to coat it with some sort of protectant. Like you would with cast iron pans. You need to coat them with oil and bake the oil on, creating a layer, so that the surface is not exposed to air. There are some other chemicals to use, like machine oil, or even "Rust Block," a product from the makesrs of evapo-rust.

      From my experience, which was more than ten years ago, as I totally stopped using it, becaues it left the surface of my dash in my whitened after a few months in the sun. There was a huge debate on a car forum (my350z.com) I used to frequent about the evils of Armor All.

    i wouldn't return tha RF shield on tha bottom part! one of mine was way too rusted so i decided to toss it and do a ghost case mod

    • @The_SegaHolic
      @The_SegaHolic  6 лет назад

      I like to save as much of the original parts as I can. And I try not to modify alter the parts... I do as little as I can to alter the original part. Some spray rust proof paint. And I've had some discussion as to how to remove the rust. All I do now is just remove the loose rust.
      The RF shield, well blocks RF and also provides common ground points to the different points on the main board, as they physically make contact with the board. The engineers may have done this for a reason, even though the XBox will probably work without it.
      But to each his own. Some people like red, some like blue. Eveyone has their own tastes or reasons for doing things his/her way.
      Anyways, thanks for commenting and sharing how you like to do things. See you around the channel.
