oh man this is killing me. Tons of videos and guides on how to go into a menu and press the off button but steam doesn't care and hijacks my controllers regardless
I've tried that and it STILL does not work. Like, WTF?! It's as if it's permanent and can't ever be turned off on my end, as if Valve's trying to shove that stupid Big Picture Mode down my throat.
This has never worked for me. I can never use the home button in any non-Steam games because it always focuses Steam and launches big picture. It works when i don't have the Steam application open but that doesn't solve the issue that disabling focusing on steam and launching big screen options do absolutely nothing.
This was a real pain for me when I was playing a game in Retroarch while redownloading my Steam library. Turning it off alone only works for a minute, but I will try again after restarting Steam.
ok damn this didn't work for me as Steam has removed that option, I tried to re-assign the buttons through the test-menu in steam but that kept crashing. My solution was to go into DS4Windows and unbind the PS/Home button so it doesn't do anything anymore... seems to work so far.
So any updates when Valve is going to update Big Picture Mode like they promised after they released the Steam Deck? Because Steam Big Picture Mode hasn't been updated for years and is pretty much trash and not recommended for those people who want to have a ''console experience'' on PC.
Yeah big picture mode is nowhere near a console experience. Normal mode with a mouse is much better. It should be called Pig Picture mode because it's the ugliest GUI possible that looks like it's from 2003 and the user experience is just as bad.
After this Video, I still had to open xbox Game Bar from windows and turn the controller button back on in the settings. Would have been nice if you covered that instead of leaving everyone hanging.
In Big Picture Mode you go to the gear labeled Manage after you click on your game. There should be an option called Properties. Then pick the section called Controller. From there you should see a link that says Controller General Settings. It took me a while to find this lol.
I hate BPM! What is the point of it? I'm playing rdr2 and accidentally pressing the middle button on the ps5 dualshock and that's it, I'm fucked. Stuck with the controller moving around behind the game and unable to get back in to rdr2. So annoying!
No.. definitely doesn't work in recent steam.. all steam controller settings are disabled here (I use game native x input support only if it has it) and guide function disabled and xbox button opened effin big picture. Drives me nuts.
@@jamesmcferran7813 I figured it out bro. You just go to big picture then go to controller setting then disable all the settings then reset your pc. Then you can turn them back on or keep it off. I keep it off and it works fine.
how do you swap between steam controller and pc controller for other softwares like pcsx2 emulator? i can't swap the controller to the non steam app unless i close steam
Big picture mode just stops steam from responding at all. Can't even do any tinkering with controller settings whatsoever. Hate that I can't do any controller settings from the normal app.
how do i completely remove my ps4 remote from being connected to stream and revert it back to stay connected via bluetooth as a normal controller? steam messes with my input i can’t play a game without closing a window or having buttons not work
Dude thank you so much I appreciate that I was playing an N64 game and I bother you USB controlling it recognizes as a PlayStation 3 controller and it kept launching steam Big picture mode on Mario 64
@@scov8349 lol I do! Plus how do I stop steam hijacking my controller when I'm not even playing a steam game - it thinks I'm on a web browser if I'm playing a non-steam game 🤦🏾
thanks that thing is so annoying , for my xbox controller whenever i have to turn it on or off i had to press the xbox button for few seconds and it always put steam and it was really annoying
Yeah this is definitely not Big picture mode anymore so obviously I can report this video as false advertisement and it wouldn't matter because of the fact it would be one hundred percent true since the Big picture mode no longer looks like this no longer controls like this either I'm looking at the controls myself after activating Big picture mode showing that this is complete nonsense and watching your video nor should anybody else because of the update the update is what makes it false advertisement now so you can blame steam for that one
Hey I’m from a diff video but I have a question When I go to download Fortnite It says that it can’t find it and then ask me to go find it in the store but when I go to the store it says start But if I press start is says “can’t find application do you want to go too the PlayStation store” but I I click it says start then rinse and repeat
Mine doesn't look like this not at all I'm stuck in this crappy new Big picture mode and I can't get out so I'm just going to restart my PC and give you a dislike
oh man this is killing me. Tons of videos and guides on how to go into a menu and press the off button but steam doesn't care and hijacks my controllers regardless
Its BS now any ways since you no longer have the settings to use for it.
Same issue in 2024, I've followed a handful of videos yet it still takes over.
still having this issue. anyone find a solution?
Doesn't work anymore. They removed that option.
If "Guide Button Focuses Steam" is off, try toggling it on and off again. This worked for me
Worked for me too. Thanks
Bro! This is the actual answer right here. Compulsory PBM is BS, and still gets through sometimes, but this tip made my Steam usage 98% less annoying.
I've tried that and it STILL does not work. Like, WTF?! It's as if it's permanent and can't ever be turned off on my end, as if Valve's trying to shove that stupid Big Picture Mode down my throat.
Beautiful man. The only video that fixes this problem
Thank u so much , mine was off but I turn it on in big picture mode >> restart steam >> turn it off in normal mode >> restart steam and works Thanks
this just helped me thank you!!

Not even having steam closed works for me. It just launches steam in order to get to big picture mode.
@@astrowebs410 Yeah mine used to open the Steam app too but luckily it stopped doing that, no i just need to have it closed
hack to stop it if this doesn't work: settings -> controller -> test device input -> setup device inputs, and don't set the guide button.
This was a real pain for me when I was playing a game in Retroarch while redownloading my Steam library. Turning it off alone only works for a minute, but I will try again after restarting Steam.
This is no longer the layout. How do I disable it now?
Doesn't work. Already had that disabled and it still does it.

The steam controller settings has changed and now this isnt an option anymore. Anyone have steps to find it in the new menu?

disable your controller support and guide button on steam controller setting that worked for me one option on and it will open
I have a question sometimes when I play games with my controller a steam on-screen keyboard will keep popping up, thanks for any help :)

This was a great video! I'm on a Gaming Laptop and was curious what "Big Picture Mode" is and yea. Good video by the way!
This works for my PS4 controller. Thanks! I just wanted to do remote play but hitting the ps button was being a bugger with steam. So thanks!
found a solution... late? yes... btw... enable an option in the same tab "disable controls while not in big picture mode" or something like that
didn't work on PS4 controller
this sucks, one of the main reasons i hate playing on pc is these stupid launchers doing

Same. I wonder if a recent update messed with this setting like the video warned around 1:30.
Steam Big Picture mode doesn't work.
