- In this tutorial I am trying a new product and technique with the Lets Resin Magic Pour casting powder. The product is by @DecoArtPaint@DecoArtPaint and it's called Water marbling/hydro dipping, made with acrylic paint. I am using a bowel mold that is 7"x7" round by 2.5" deep and holds 16oz.
Step 1: I mix up my casting powder, starting with 455g (should have went with 500g) powder. mixed in my water and poured into the mold and then had to mix a bit more to get it filled. tapped and jiggled the mold to help release air bubbles, then left to cure for an hour. Once cure, removed from the mold and let dry over night.
Step 2: I prepare the water, (it needs to be really hot water) for the hydro dip based on instructions. but....I should have mixed a little at a time versus mixing all at once of the thickening powder, but once I got in dissolved, left the water to cool to room temp.
Step 3: It was time to add the colorant to the water, so I chose black, teal and blue and dripped the colors in the water until I thought it was a good pattern, I decided last minute to add the light green. I then dipped the bowel in, under then out.
Step 4: once bowel was dry, I sealed the bowel with wax.

Oh my goodness, watching all of you makes me spend money on new products. Off to the store I go! Great Job!!! I love love love this. Thank you for sharing with us.
Your welcome Wendy🥰🤗
First off, I love the bowl mold, and the dipping turned out amazing. I used to make bracelets, only I used nail polish. Thank you for sharing. Have a wonderful day.
Thank you Linda and your welcome🥰🤗
This came out GORGEOUS 😍 I love it. Nice job for your first try. ❤Gail
Thank you Gail🤗🥰
It’s brilliant. Don’t think I would have the patience to do it, but the effect is great.
Thank you Janet🥰
You did an outstanding job on this! I have been wanting to do marbling for a long time and now you have giving me the inspiration. And I absolutely love your colors. Way to go, Mary.!!
Thank you🥰 I was worried about doing it because its so different and I didn't think anyone would like it. But it turned out good. 😊
Oh mu hoodness that is absolutely Beautiful I have got to get some of this I have been looking at hidro dipping this looks so much better then the videos I have watched. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you Amy🥰 do try it and let me know how it turns out😊
Love 🥰 it; it’s fun 🤩 and takes me back to college days ❤❤❤
Thank you🥰🤗
New subscriber. I have never seen this product before. The bowl looks great dipped it it. Thank you for sharing this experience with us all. ❤
Welcome Christin. Thank you so much for subscribing. Happy to have you in the group🥰 I had not heard of it either until I found it at Michaels. I really like it. Now that I know how to use it, I will be doing more pieces. Your very welcome🤗😊
Great first go! And thanks for sharing it, too! Definitely helps us when learning with you! Your bowl is lovely. I did this with a paper and a pencil at a free DecoArt demo at an artist conference once. I think if you redip you add more drops of color first so you get the color integrity like the first dip.
I have a .ot invested in paints and UV resin so it may be a while before I can give this a go!
Can't wait to see your next make with what you learned on this go around!
Thank you Jennifer and your welcome🥰🤗
Dip it more slowly and at an even speed. You did a great job. You can also take a stick and swirl the surface of the paint floating before you dip. 😊
Thank you Kim🥰🤗 I will be trying this again😊
Wow! That's gorgeous.
Thank you Joan🤗🥰
I saw this done with spray paint. You just spray the water with spray paint then dip. It looked much easier and probably less expensive. I would get a baking rack to set it on to dry.
But I really like how it came out. It's funny because I just made that bowl for a succulent garden. I marbled it using resincrete.
Great job! Have a great day!!!
Ali, I've seen the spray paint, but Im not liking how it leaves the surface raised. This actually stains the surface and it doesn't come off. Thank you 🤗🥰
Very nice!❤👌🏻👍🏻😃👏🏻
Thank you Laura🥰
That turned out great! Ordering some now for store pickup!
Yay!! you will love them
Absolutely cool 😅😢 love 😘 it
Thank you Stacey🥰🤗
I think you did well 😊 I love the size of that mold!
Thank you Marcy🤗🥰
Super cool 😎 ❤
Thank you Kelley🥰
❤❤Thats beautiful!
Thank you Dawn🥰🤗
Love it.
Thank you Coral🥰🤗
Love it! Wonder if next time you add more color to the water before you do next side. So cool!!!
Thank you🥰 good point, not sure. I need to watch some videos😊
Very nice!
Thank you Lynn🥰🤗
Claire's Crafty Corner has lately been doing hydro dipping using spray paint and then dipping her molds, and it worked. Not so much on the eco pours, though. Lovely results with resin.
I have watched her videos of dipping her molds in the spray paint, first time I watched, I thought for sure her molds were ruined. Thank goodness they weren't😂
Yes and NeverPerfectResin has too. Watermarbling is a great fun way to marble isn't it
Looks great!
Thank you Marie🥰🤗
Oh my gosh, I love this...sorry I know I comment a lot however I have to comment as I'm thinking it otherwise I will forget
Helen, don't apologize, I love all the comments, no matter how many times🤗
It's beautiful. May I suggest that you dip it only once. Dipping it twice is why you got that grayish area.and
Thank you for the advice Sandra. Have you done hydro dipping before? If so, would love to hear some tips😊
I think is it brilliant for a first time go I am so glad you did this. I to would love to see more of this technique for sure . The last time i did marbling was with paper , shaving foam and food colouring LOL . Mess galore smelled great and was so much fun LOL. I would love to try it at some stage thats for sure you could cover and have so much fun with so many pieces !!! *ps i think it miught have been me that suggested it but not 100% hehehe
Selene, I had a feeling it was you that suggested it, but in the video I didn't want to call you out and you think I was nuts😂😂 but I looked at my list and it was you😊. So thank you for the suggestion, it was fun to do, and I will be doing more for sure.🥰🤗
@@resinmeup heheh its all good i wouldnt have minded both being nuts n all lol YAY * cause for a moment i was thinking *was it me ??? ** but i have to say i did smile to myself and pointed at myself going yeah it was me hehe* You are so very welcome
Maybe mix that stuff into a small amount of water and then pour it into the other water!
I've done water marbling with nail polish and the key to getting lots of colors and sworls is adding way more color than you think you need. Also, you can carefully take a stick through the colors and make wavy wispy designs.
Thank you Hayley🥰🤗 lots of learning curves this go round, will try again😊
May I ask what you were actually dipping into the nail polish? Was it fingernails? If so, how did you keep the colour from getting all over the finger? Lol ♥️♥️🇦🇺
@@mattersofthehartbynat8815 you can order it online and on her channel, she even has a tutorial for dipping nails if that helps
Hope that you had a wonderful Mother's Day Mary💐 Milo is such a sweet boy for saying Happy Mother's Day too😂❤
Wowza, love this marbling that is awesome and great color choices.
Mary what did the bowl feel like once it dried?
Thank you Beverly🥰. It felt exactly the same as before, smooth. Its not like the spray paint that leaves it raised. Its just like adding it to the magic pour, but better😊
@@resinmeup yes that's exactly what I was wondering if it left a texture. That's so much better that it is smooth😍😍
That is too cool for school!! 🤣 I don’t know if that term is global, or just an Aussie thing!! But I love it!
Love from Nat. ♥️♥️🇦🇺
Well its a global thing, but not among the youngsters😂😂. Thank you Nat🤗🥰
@@resinmeup Darn it… I’m showing my age hey?!? 🤣 🤣
That is so cool! It looks like it’d be really fun to try.. minus the stirring part.😅 Would using a whisk or your Istoyo mixer create too many bubbles? Can you add more drops of acrylic and dip a second time with the same gel water? I watched a hydro dip video quite a while ago where they created a floral pattern on the surface of the water.. I think it was a floral pattern. Anyway, they were dipping ceramic plates, I would not have thought it possible to get that kind of precision with a moving medium, it was incredible. Your bowl looks amazing, you did a great job Mary, especially for your first try.❤
Thank you Annette🥰🤗 from what Im hearing you can add more color before redipping, which makes sense, but I didn't think about it🤦🏻♀. I've seen a few videos of the flower technique, I will need a bit more practice before I take that🤣🤣
I love the end result, especially as it's the first time you've used this product! I was wondering if using a whisk rather than the spatula to mix with as you add your magic powder might have avoided the clumping that you had to deal with?
Thank you Pauline🥰 I thought the same thing, using a whisk next time.😊
I wonder if a resin mixer would work to mix this up? Thank you for bringing us something new to try, I appreciate you giving us your time to teach us
Your welcome Helen🥰🤗 Im going to try a whisk next time😊
@@resinmeup great idea didn't even think about a whisk. So glad you added the green I was cheering for it
I HOPE YOU HAD A GREAT MOTHERS DAY
Well that stuff is cool as heck❤Was it expensive? The bowl is quite beautiful!
Its not to badly priced, at least I didn't think so. They have a starter kit online, but they didn't have one there. I did look online today and they do have more colors. Its really cool. 🥰
I love it. I see a trip to Michaels in my near future.
Where did you get your new mixing bowl? One like that, with the handle, would be so much easier on my hands than the regular mixing bowl I have. ❤
Thank you🥰 the bowl came from Home Goods, that's why I got it mainly was the handle. It was $4.99 I believe.
@@resinmeup Thanks, I'll have to go there, too.
Love this I wonder if an emersion blender would work
Also make it in smaller batches and after mixed add them all together into a main batch - easier on you hands and nerves
Definitely wont be doing the powder like that again, like I said in the video, it was a bad choice. And I think if I use a whisk to mix it while I sprinkle it will be be better. 🥰
Maybe a whisk? Nicely done. Have you decided on a wax or spray sealer and if so what brand?
I picked one up at Michaels while I was getting this stuff. Its a wax and its called UP Furniture Salve. After watching Wendy with Toonpish, she used a wood wax on hers and it worked fine, so that's what I got. It works great and it lemon scented😂
So I went down the rabbit hole and there are lots of colors, you can get them in kits or individually
Lol, I got online and seen that too. 😂😂😂
Maybe slowly add water to the powder, just like flour or cornstarch. ?? I don’t know, just saying.
Thank you for the feedback🥰🤗
Maybe use a whisk the next time
Definetly🌻❤
Y can't you make it in a large cup and then pour it into your water and stir it
Carol, learning curve. When I use this again I wont be repeating what I did in this video for sure.😂 but yes that is a thought🥰🤗
Marbling doesn't work very well on two dimensional objects. I have only seen this done on flat objects like trays. I ordered a whole bunch of colors from Dick Blick.
I'm confused, so you don't think it worked or it did work?
@@resinmeup Yes, it worked very well. I am just noting that this technique was invented for flat surfaces. I have never seen it done on rounded three dimensional pieces. Have you ever seen anyone on youtube doing a bowl?? I think you would have to do two baths to get both sides of the dish.
@@passerineblue No, I had not seen anyone try it this way. Only with paper. That's why I wanted to try it. I think your right about doing a second dip maybe, or it could have been how I laid down the paint to. Let me know if you try it.
