I had one in 1994 so glad I did. My Doc was awesome I had heavy bleeding after my son wearing 3 pads and not being able to do much. The Doc said if there is no signs of endometriosis then he would let me keep my ovaries of which I did. The recovery was hell pain and everything taking care of a 2 yrs old. But I got through it and was soon able to enjoy my life being a Mom. Don't eat any nuts for a while has it will give you cramps I have heard this from many and including myself. Its the best thing to do when you cannot have your quality of life. Just think all the money you will save on Pads!

Removing the uterus does affect the ovaries if ovaries are intact. The blood supply is cut off when ligaments are cut to separate during surgery. I know many women who kept ovaries & uterus was removed & they experienced hormone issues after surgery. My mother was one of those women. The ovaries are shocked. Avoid hysterectomy at all costs if it's not absolutely necessary.

Hi Dr. Susan! I am a huuuge fan of you! I always learn so much with you and you explain everything so clearly!! I feel blessed to know you :) Loved this video Dr. Susan! my story is a bit more complicated than Caroline's. I ended up having a total hysterectomy. After the surgery Dr. Beard told me I had endometriosis. It has been 4 months since the surgery and life is great now! I am loving it! When you clarified that the uterus is only a muscle to hold the baby it really helped me understand clearly the impact on hormones.

I have heavy periods and lots of pain and discomfort. My doctor said my uterus and cervix and tubes but leaving my ovaries. I'm super nervous. It's my choice in the end as it's not an emergency. I had an ablation it didn't help the bleeding a lot.

I appreciate this video. I'm 47 and I'm having a total hysterectomy in 2 weeks. I have suffered for years with heavy bleeding and cramping. Had endometriosis removed from my organs in 2001 and lost a tube and ovary due to atopic pregnancy. After years of anemia and taking iron pills I decided it was time. I feel like I'm going through perimenopause but my follicle test show that I'm far from it. Can't remember my numbers but it was tested a few times. I hope I'm making the right decision. I just can't go on this way any longer.

"The uterus is ultimately removed through the vagina"? Wow, I didn't know that, I'm afraid of that surgery, and the gynecologist says I must have it because they think I have adenomyosis or endometriosis, it's so confusing, I'm 52 and i still have periods, not regular at all and not as heavy as they were, to the point I've lived my whole life with anemia.
I'm a new subscriber and I'm learning so much from your videos. Amazing channel, thank you for clarifying so many things.

My naturopath put me on 10 drops a day of "Pulsatilla Tincture" and after taking it for only 3 weeks, I had no pain anymore!
Maybe that could help someone (:

I don’t have menstrual issues but would you recommend ovary and uterus removal to lessens breast cancer reoccurrence? I had breast cancer a year ago and currently on tamoxifen.

I am 53 and have many fibroids and my doctor thinks I should have a hysterectomy. Should I wait until I go through menopause or should I get my uterous out to get rid of the fibroids?

I am 52 and I have a uterine mass and my doctor would like to perform a hysterectomy and also remove ovaries. My FHA levels show I am in menopause and therefore he said I don’t need my ovaries. I am not stressed about the hysterectomy, but removing my ovaries worries me. There is no family history of ovarian cancer. Can you refer me to a place where there is specific information related to removing ovaries in menopause?

What are the health issues associated with removing your ovaries? This past December my Dr while giving me a total hysterectomy also removed my ovaries because I had a large cyst. I'm 50 yrs old.

I’m curious as well. My surgery is scheduled for the end of April - and due to ovarian cysts I’d like to have them removed.

We don’t know wich Doctor we should trust🤦🏻‍♀️ many Doctors say if you are 51 years better to remove ovaries during hysterectomy as you are already at menopause … nilothung to do with ovaries at that age…. But if you are under 45 years old you should keep your ovaries….

I had an ablation at age 43 due to severe menorrhagia. I didn’t have fibroids or cramping pain, and by all indications my uterus is healthy, other than it was draining me of my blood. I really believe that because it WASN’T cramping and clamping down was why I was bleeding so long and profusely. It seemed sluggish in that regard.
Anyway, I’m curious if an ablation would stop cramping as well as a hysterectomy would. I know we ovulate and have “periods” still after an ablation, but our uterine lining is gone.

Your cramps will not by having a hysterectomy. Even if you are at your 35's your ovary supply can definitely die faster.

You are a doctor and believe in sexual health. So why aren't you talking about HPV and cervical cancer?
