A good friend of mine ordered one of these but after driving went and purchased the cannon x, he is very happy with it and does a lot of towing Keep up the good work, your reviews are very good👍
Considering even in expensive mainstream utes, lifestyle users will upgrade the tyres and suspension almost straight away, the ride and tyre issues can be tailored to the user and the cost still be below the purchase price of a base mainstream.
I think your review is pretty non-biased. Also as well as other of your videos, always have an open view. Gives both pros and cons in a neutral non exaggeration way, unlike other auto reviewers. I Like it.
Thanks. That’s why I’m doing it the way I’m doing it - it’s me just telling you about the car, like I would if we were chatting at the pub. Cheers for your support.
Great review, I love it! I think the Ultra Diesel would be my pick, but the Hybrid is somewhat tempting too for the power alone (despite the issues you mentioned in your other review). Would have to test both and see which is most liveable.
When you review these vehicles, what tyre pressure do you set? Just so all the comparisons between vehicles are consistent. I’ve recently collected an empty ute from a dealer and it rode like crap and was also losing traction too much. A quick stop at a servo…they’d set it to 45psi. I changed to 34psi and it made a WORLD of difference to how rough it felt.
i still prefer the name King Kong Cannon 😊. Still this is a unit, the comprables are spot on ,anyone looking for something of this size in this price range would also look at something like a Musso. I like that the isofix is where it is which is just the best when fitting in child seats in a ute(also loving all those storage compartments in the back, makes a very good case for being family friendly). Finally I dont see this ute not getting 5 stars from ANCAP and the car its based on(Tank 500) has a 5 start rating, for what thats worth these days.
I'm a retiree on a budget. I swap out my Ute every five years. I am on to my third poverty pack Hilux Workmate dual cab petrol auto. The one I just bought paid $41500 drive away. I have not had a single issue with any of these Utes might stick with Toyota for now.
Not getting V6 has NOTHING to do with Government policies. How do we know this? Because Nissan will be bringing into Australia the new Patrol with a twin turbo V6. Arriving 2026/27...! If Nissan can do it, so could GWM if they wanted to. Simple as that. The only ones to blame if we don't get the V6 is GWM themselves. If they did bring in the V6, I would go and buy one in a heartbeat.
Well given the Ranger and the Amarok are pretty much engineering time bombs... gonna say the chinese ute is far and away more likely to still be running in 10 years. Ford and VW reliability is just there long term anymore, nor has it for a decade. I see great wall utes from 15 years ago still running with 300km on the clock; the only rangers and amaroks whom get that are fleet buys that rack up those miles in a few years before time becomes a factor and are chucked.
You have no idea on what your writing about , the ford has been Aussie best selling duel cab for last 18 months , these bottom feeders have not , don’t be bitter cause you cannot afford a v6 ranger , buy one of the 💩boxes if you are a dribbler .
Hi, I really like the Mitsubishi Triton but I don’t understand why you want to go to twin turbos just got a bigger motor in it. It makes no sense more moving parts more dramas etc etc. It’s only my opinion and it probably doesn’t mount to much
😁Do you still have your fillings? The interior looks good, but I think that they need to work on the suspension and drive quality for the Australian market.
Just saw the news today. GWM starts to fit this 2.4 diesel into normal canon(not alpha) for off-road purpose. But I really am interested in this new haval H9, hopefully by the time I went back to China next month, I can test drive the new diesel H9. if they not going to bring the diesel h9 to Australia, then I’m not going to buy the potty 2L petrol version.
One of my concerns is why are we seeing so many of these Chinese vehicles being sold with very few KM ? Are these owners finding out that they are garbage very quickly after purchase?
I have an MG hs essence from 2020 and I can't say a bad thing about it. My mechanic always comments how well it runs and drives. Tiny engine but fast and quiet as
Great review, as always. The one question i was hoping might be answered directly is whether you see enough value to jump from spending, say, the mid forty thousands on Cannon X..to potentially in the low sixty thousands for an Alpha. Or whether the Alpha just points to the X being really good value for what it is. Keen to know how your spending decision would play out..
The practicality is not THAT much better for the Alpha, despite it being much nicer inside and with more street presence. If budget is the most important thing, the Cannon X is the go. It ticks the boxes well enough for the money.
I buy what I like, zero brand loyalty. Last Aussie car was SSV Redline, last three years a MG HS Essence X. Thirty new cars in fifty two years. Will be buying the hybrid if its good in the flesh. Mainstream utes are underdone and overpriced.
it's a shame, that no pick up other than VW Amarok and Honda RidgeLine to this day, don't offer a wide enough space between the wheelbase to carry plywood/drywall sheets flat on the bed..
Hope manufacturers like Ford take note. How arrogant of Ford to provide a Halogen in the base Ranger when these so packed with features. If you are using a ute for life style usecases like carrying bikes, kids stuff, dogs etc. This is no brainer. Do they have a tray cover or canopy option with this ?
Ssanyong still uses a lap sash seatbelt in the middle rear and the well documented driveline vibration and entertainment issues 🤦♂️ They all have quirks and I feel the Alphas biggest disappointment is the lack of payload and that is it, I was waiting for this vehicle to come out and unfortunately the payload has removed it from my shopping list.
@@TheMowogman I think what he is meaning is: That in 10 years some Japanese manufacturers won't be around, in China (the biggest car market in the world) Toyota has fallen from the top car company to number 7 in 3 years. it is coil rear suspension in China, which feels as comfort as a Tank 500…but GWM changes to leaf springs to get 3.5T towing rating for Australia…
They should have left coils at rear and just put in airbags, would have been super amazing
Australia seems to get the crap left overs , when it comes to vehicle from other countries.

Nope. It’s Euro 5.

Hope the gwm bring tank 400 with that engine to Australia
