- Hey guys,
So in this video Greg shows you how to install the Official Volkswagen Roof Rack kit for the Mk.4 Jetta, which also includes the 5-door Golf as well. These racks will likely also fit the City Golf and City Jetta that are also Mk.4 based (though we haven't verified independently that that's the case). Also note that these racks (the rear rack specifically) aren't compatible with the 3-door Golf, as they don't have the mounting pins in the rear weather stripping on those cars. We hope you enjoy the video :).
The torque spec for the screw to attach the roof racks to the car is 53 "-lbs (6 Nm)

Do these have a number on the key hole? Wondering if they are made my Thule if I can get a key replaced.

Yes, it would appear both sets of racks that I have do have numbers stamped on the lock cylinders.
So you can just take that number to any locksmith and tell them it is for roof racks, and they can make new keys for you.

Do you have a part number or where I can find the mounts that connect the feet to the weather stripping? I can't seem to find any.
I don't have a specific part number for the mounting hooks unfortunately, sorry.
I'm not even sure if you could buy them separately. eBay may be your best bet or local sellers.

Hello, the OEM part numbers are 515-0181 for the front rack, and 515-0181-02 for the rear. These are for a 4-door Golf or Jetta. FYI the racks are different for a 2-door Golf.
This set of racks I purchased privately from a gentleman on Facebook Marketplace for $130.00. I do not believe they are still made by VW, but if you look long enough you can find a pre-owned set in good shape online.

Thanks. This is the best video about Roof Rack MK4. Could you explain how the bar with hooks squeezes 2 roof pins on both sides. As I understand it, these hooks should come about 8 mm and lock pins . Does the bar with hooks is solid or have 2 movable parts?
Thanks for the comment! As I remember it the piece with the two hooks on it is actually two separate pieces that move relative to the rack itself. Both hooks move to allow install over the pins on the roof and then when the fastener bolt is tightened both hooks are drawn outward tensioning the rack to the roof. Both racks are the same style front and back for the 4-door golf and jetta. 2-door racks have different mounts for the rear rack. Hope this helps!

@@GBProductions0 Thanks. I have similar rack with only one fastener . There are no hooks. Its Thule brand. This rack has a much lower reliability of attachment to the roof. Maybe I can improve it like the VW brand.

Not that we know of. Your best bet is to use Facebook Marketplace or something similar to try and find a good used set.

Where can I find this roof rack
We just found these privately on Facebook Marketplace, they are pre-owned, we have also seen them on Kijiji before. Not sure if they are still available from Volkswagen.

Where did you buy these for $130
They were purchased used from a private seller on Facebook Marketplace... As far as we know, they are no longer available new from Volkswagen.
