Mayonaise cake is a result of the Great Depression when eggs and oil were harder to come by, or needed to be saved for other meals.
Stephanie Florence no, depression is the result of a mayonnaise cake.
I believe that! Never had it, would try it, but probably won't make it unless absolutely necessary. I'd rather have no cake.
Believe it or not it’s a good cake.
Two cups of mayonnaise is still a truck-ton of a relatively expensive ingredient. From what I can see, the actual Depression-era versions of this idea used a lot less mayo - 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup, not 2 cups.
@@fionaclaphamhoward5876 Thank you so much. I love this stuff. Good memories.
Am I the only one who kept hearing butt pan every time he said Bundt pan?
It does have a series of Rumps in the design...Haha
Well Siri kinda did lol 😂
When I was a little kid I thought it WAS butt pan, it cracked me up as a child haha
😂😂😂😂😂
You mean it’s not?!?!
Brandon is a legend, getting JJR to try that sandwich was epic!
💗❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤🤍🤎
I’ve been making mayonnaise cake as my go-to chocolate cake for 20 years at least. It always turns out great! It’s so moist and flavorful. (I do not like the raw batter though, I can taste the mayo) I usually frost it with coconut pecan frosting but have used chocolate, cream cheese, powdered sugar. Everybody loves this cake! I’m not so sure about your mayonnaise glaze. Top it with real frosting !
“I would’ve poured it right in the glaze hole” 😂😂😂
Miracle Whip on bread as a snack. That was my go to snack as a kid.
I don't eat it any more. But my mom would make us apple sandwiches Bread, mayo and apple lol They tasted pretty good
My grandmother ate them too. It was the grossest to watch her. Lol
JJR: Hey Siri...
My iPad Siri: *interrupts program* How may I help you?
Me: GO AWAY!!!!!
My mom has been making this for 48 years and it’s amazing! But, that seriously is way more mayo then she has ever used. As for the mayo, from the videos I’ve watched, Japan cuisine uses a ton of mayo!
I love Japanese mayo!
Japanese mayo is different from mayo in europe/america though
I don't know if anyone does this, but I love dipping my fries on a sundae.. lol.
A lot of Californians that go to In-N-Out dip their fries in the vanilla shake. It's pretty good!!
I like McDonald fries with a Wendy’s frosty.
& if I’m at home I like Kettle Cooked plain chips with bryers chocolate and vanilla ice cream.
Yum
i do it too!
Seriously it’s delicious and now I want that this second!
I do that when I get Mc Donalds
When will I learn to trust your decorating? You brought everything out and I screamed “ No, that’s too much!” You finish decorating and I mumble “okay, you were right, that looks amazing.”
Millennial here. Mayonnaise cakes are how I learned to make chocolate cakes growing up. Not just for grandmas!
Joshua is so Cute😍 He seems to me like an excited kid 😂 And his 'spikes' really complete that kid's look😍😍
He’s not a kid
I had sugar sandwiches
Caden Call and...that is why I said SEEMS
Caden Call - that person didn’t say he was a kid tho .. 😕
I have my grandmother's recipe from the great depression... no milk, no eggs, no butter. I make it all the time and always get compliments.
I’m sorry why is no one talking about Jarvis the fox?!😂🦊
what about Weanus the Chicken? :D
Saw this and got excited thinking the episode was already up 😅
SAME!
Leslie Sommers me to
When I was a kid I would make ham cheese, tomato and raw cabbage sandwiches when we had no lettuce. And toast with butter and lemon. I swear both were delicious 😋
That sounds delicious!🎉
Cant wait !!! Sure have been anxiously waiting to see you guys & get this new channel started !!
My dad adds 1/4 cup mayo to EVERY bundle cake he makes and they are so moist. Wouldnt eat a bundle cake any other way!! Way to go JJR! Very proud of you!
“Manny! I ain’t got no eggs r oil ! Well use mayo Debra !” Why 😂😂😂😭😭 it was the accent for me !
Lol. I’m from the South. I can’t help it
I love the way you decorated this one - it seems like a really easy way to make any cake look stylish.
I’m so glad someone feels the same way about mayonnaise as I do. Just looking at it makes me want to gag
Sameeeee😂😂
Right. I have an up and down relationship with mayo. I like it but only in small amounts. If there's too much., I'M OUT.
Just the smell makes me want to barf. 🤮
It's only really in good in tuna but Japanese mayo is actually pretty good
Luca Peyrefitte or homemade one. When I saw american mayonnaise for the first time I thought the world just ended. Since i have only known it als yellow and kinda fluffy 😂 and it tastes better.
Can't wait to see this
I want more ppl like him
His behaviour is a plus
so glad you are back.....rocked my day; I love how brave you are to try not only a weird recipe, but that sandwich too!!
AHHH!!! Thank you so much! My Mama (great-grandma) used to make this cake all the time and it was the only chocolate I ever liked. I always asked her for the recipe and she just said it was the mayo cake recipe that everyone used, but I never found the recipe. This brought back so many great memories. Thank you! 😍😍
My mom made mayonnaise cake all the time as a kid. I loved it, haven't had it in ages! I love the soundtrack!
I am so happy you guys are back in action. 🥰
Well worth the wait !!! So happy to see you guys goofing around and making us some good content & desserts !!! 👏👏👏👏👌
lol My mom DID send these in my school lunch and I liked it just about as much as JR did! And no one would trade!
JJR you just makes EVERYTHING cuter and Amazing!
I love mayo and peanut butter!! It started when I was pregnant but I still eat it often with banana! I want to try this cake! Glad you're back!!
I’ve been so excited. I love mayonnaise cake. I’ve been making it for years 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I was holding it together until "your breath smells like my childhood"
So glad to see back. You always make me laugh. Thank you.
We had homemade bread, mayonnaise & lettuce for sandwiches when I was a kid. Keep on slaying cakes!
Joshua: My grandma
And a couple other grandmas I know
Me: How many Grandmas do you know...?
GREAT recipe and video!!! You guys are so funny!
Side note: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make a Percy Jackson cake! PLEASE
I did not expect that at the end. It’s Iike you read my mind.
YESS WE NEED A PERCY JACKSON CAKEEEE
Not the movies.
In the Philippines, every elderly woman is your grandma
SO EXCITED!
I LOVE that every time he goes into his southern voice, he names Randy and only Randy. Hahahahah.
Omg yes!!!! So excited that your back!!!!
That cake turned out amazing! I have had mayonnaise cake before and its not bad, neither is Coca-cola cake.
Reminder set!
Thx for reminding me to do that 😂😂
I almost forgot 😬😂
My grandma used to make mayonnaise cakes. They were so moist and delicious! Sour cream chocolate cakes are really good too!
Loving this new series😍
Thanks!!
My grandparents love peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwiches so they made them for lunch one time when they had my boys and the 3 year old, at the time, said, "Grandma, I don't like white jelly." He assumed it was a pb&j. 😂😂😂
1) ramen noodles drenched in ketchup (no seasoning)
2) pancakes dipped in refried beans
3) cheddar cheese chunk dipped in peanut butter (smooth)
“And a couple other grandmas I know.” 😂👵🏻👵🏻
Love the color palette going on in the kitchen!
Yesss! PB&Mayo reminds me of my childhood. I haven't had it in forever.
I've added mayo to my chocolate cake recipe for years. It makes it extra moist.
Reminder is on! Watching you during my lunchbreak from Suriname ( South America)! Yeeaaayyyyyy!
What a perfect day to post a video on my birthday!😍💖 I love cake and I love mayonnaise lol! Thanks josh you’re the best!🥰✨
Mayo cake is the first cake I learned to make and I love it!
Two weeks is just too long to wait for another episode! Love watching these!
Loving the new channel Josh!!! So excited for more hehe
omg this vid is such a feelgood vid. loved it!
love the old-timey interludes
Excellent cake! So moist and rich! I like the coffee addition. My mother would often do the same. We being in 2020, any body over 30 who's got a Grandma, she would have come up in the 60s/ 70s. Not exactly pioneer stock. And got their cake mixes from a box. My Grandma 1903-97 was a depression mother. We had a real "icebox " until after WW2. Mayonnaise was stored under the kitchen sink because it was dark and cool 🤮🦠! Wanna a hunk of mayo cake now?still a great recipe 🍧🎂
We make a mayonnaise cake too. It’s my grandmas recipe. And it’s chocolate and with vanilla frosting.
My dad used to eat peanut butter and onion sandwiches! He also ate peanut butter & dill pickle & dipped fritoes into peanut butter. Lol. SO GLAD YOU'RE BACK!!!! I'VE MISSED Y'ALL!!!!!
The cake looks like a Volcano!!! I know a 5 year old would have gladly had this for his birthday!!!
SET MY REMINDER!!!!! SO EXCITED! YOU GUYS ROCK!
Heck yesssssss, another episode!!
4am and I’m ready to watch Joshua turn mayo into a cake.
You two seem to be excited about the slow-mo-ments 😄
Well done for trying that horrid creation of a peanut butter and mayo sandwich.
I love to see you again!!
So excited to watch this another amazing video 😍💕
My grandmother and my dad called this Wonder cake. SO good, so moist!
Even if I hated baking I'd still watch this channel. JJR and Brandon are HILARIOUS!
I haven’t made it in a few years, but I have grown up eating mayonnaise chocolate cake. It was always the go to cake that my family would have for birthdays and it is good! I want to make it again with some of your modifications, like with the espresso coffee. That would be a great surprise for my family!
My mom makes "green stuff" which is a lime jello with pineapple, mayo, and cottage cheese in it. I LOVE IT.
We do that too! No mayo in ours, but we do that!
Wait, what? Why have I never seen a stacked bundt cake before? It seems obvious to stack but mind is still blown!
Definitely enjoy the humour and it's the reason why I enjoyed MAC. Always brighten my day!
Mayonnaise cakes are great, so moist. Love your videos.
I so enjoyed this video...kept me laughing so much and having so much joy. Thank you for this, Susie Reese, San diego. CA 🐻🧡🐻🧡
I love mayonnaise cake! I grew up on it! We add a vanilla sauce/glaze to go over the top! It is odd when you first here it, but it is glorious!
I enjoy your show. So glad I found you. 😊
OMG I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU TO COME BACK!!!! FINALLYYYYYYY
I grew up making and eating this. It's just oil (basically) so it's makes a super most cake. It's truly delicious. Everyone should try making one. You won't be disappointed if you're a chocolate cake fan.
I suspect the recipe was developed by a mayonnaise company to promote sales. I remember it being popular in the 60's & 70's
That cake looks delicious 🤤
I grew up on Mayo cakes! They are awesome!
I love that you guys get to be more creative now!
In the South you will not find a church cookbook without a chocolate mayonnaise cake recipe. Back in the day when I was a wee little tike Mamaw would only use HELLMANN'S when she made it for me. Thank you Brother Joshua for this recreation of a very southern classic. Can't wait to see you make it happen.☀️🌈🌻
I've missed them!! I'm so glad they are back!
I absolutely love Oyster Stuffing. We make it every year at Thanksgiving but only my dad and I like it. Everyone else just eats the normal dressing/stuffing. But oyster stuffing IS THE BEST!!
I have made these cakes before and it's yummy. Super moist I am not a big fan of mayo either JJ but you will be surprised 😁. Love you guys so glad to see you back 😘. Hey JJR how about you try the old school tunnel of fudge cake it's made in a bunt pan your cake looks super yummy.
My grandmother made this all the time. It is a great chocolate cake. And if someone didn’t tell you I promise you would not even know it’s in there. If you’ve never tried it you should.
I like mayo and peanut butter, but not together. That is like an explosion waiting to happen. Josh you are too funny! I just love your sense of humor!
We ate peanutbutter and sandwich spread sandwiches - which is basically mayonnaise with pickle relish in it! Haven't had one in a very long time, but I remember liking them as a kid!
I grew up with a sandwich made with a thin layer of Miracle Whip, peanut butter, and then topped with banana slices on toast! YUM!
You are a brave man for tasting that sandwich!! 😳 The cake looks gorgeous!!
JJR, We need merchandise with that AMAZING logo on it! Please and thank you.
Coming soon for sure!!!
I have grown up making mayonnaise cakes and they are delicious. You can add a spoonful of mayonnaise to a box cake and it will always come out really moist.
My grandpa used to love a mayo, lettuce, bologna, pickles and peanut butter. My grandma would make it for him and take him lunch every other day! That was a weird favorite he'd have. Liver and onions too were a gross favorite he liked too.
My Mom made this cake but usually with Miracle Whip. We loved it and still do. I like Miracle Whip and peanut butter sandwiches and akso like a plain peanut butter sandwich dipped in my chili.
JJR you crack me up! I use to put peanut butter, Mayo, pickles and onions in an ice cream cone when I was prego lol. Totally serious! I love Mayo. My sister dips her potato chips in it.
YASS! I love peanut butter and mayonnaise toast/sandwiches!
well.. peanut butter and miracle whip!
Yesssss!
Pretzle sticks and sour cream...my dad, my brother and myself LOVE this! Haven't found anyone else who likes it...☺
oh ! I really missed those crazy cakes!
Yes to the pb & Mayo, although preferably pb & miracle whip. A favorite strange combo is a cinnamon raisin bagel spread with peanut butter, drizzled with honey and sprinkled with garlic powder, yummm.
Ya. My grandma used to make it and really good
Mayo cake is amazing! I love to make it and top it with 7 minute icing! Soo good and decadent!
I need to try this!!
Brandon: Mayonnaise and Peanut Butter sandwich 😁
JJR: **Gordon Ramsay mode activated**
Surprised he was taken aback at the idea of mayo-cake. First time I saw that on a jar of Duke's, I was perplexed for a second, but then you remember what mayo is. Then, you quickly realize, "Oh that makes sense."
BTW, my mom ate peanut butter-mayo sandwiches all the time when I was growing up. Never tried it myself, but she loved them!
