      This recipe already has eggs, flour and sugar....Mayonnaise has too much calories and artificial components for being on this cake. Also, it's filled and recoated with cream and chocolate.
      This recipe is a bomb....unless it is going to be consumed by a lot of people and every person is going to have a thin piece of it).

      My mom used to make cupcakes using coke instead of milk because they apparently last longer that way, and it's good for making them early for parties. :) Plus using bubbly drinks also make for a more fluffy cake without baking soda.

      Tiffany Routh I made it with root beer or Dr. Pepper in a Tupperware cake mold in the microwave and heated up cherry pie filling and poured it over the warm cake and everyone loved it! I sold 5 Tupperware cake molds that night with the recipe! Lol

    It SOUNDS gross but when you realize that mayo is mostly eggs and oil, you get past it. Just a mental thing, I guess.

    • @sarabeth641
      @sarabeth641 6 лет назад +15

      artofvoice It's also got vinegar. But you really can't taste anything Mayonnaise-y. I think it's super neat.

    • @Ari_C
      @Ari_C 5 лет назад +26

      @@sarabeth641 vinegar is actually something also used in baking! If I remember correct it help make stuff like cakes nice and moist. So mayo is actually the perfect thing to use if you want whatever you're baking to turn it moist and delicious.(I've also seen recipes replicating loft house cookies using mayo and/or sour cream)

  • @Jhud69
    @Jhud69 7 лет назад +37

    Mayo is actually often used in cakes instead of eggs, it makes them more moist. Not that surprising considering that everything that is in mayo is commonly found in cakes anyway

    I have a cousin in Hawaii who says the following variation of cornbread I'd tried was very popular there. You add a very large dollop of mayonnaise to the batter. I've never seen the recipe written, but have seen it made lots of times by different people, and near as I can figure, a dollop is between 1/4 and 1/3 cup. This is in addition to eggs in the batter, and the resulting cornbread is as moist as cake. No coarse crumbling like traditional cornbread. It is fabulous..
    For your next baking experiment/project, I would love to see you make tomato soup spice cake.

    The ganache is a little thick... I usually do 1 part chocolate, 1 and a half parts cream...
    I make a lava cake, make your cupcake batter, and drop a spoonful of ganache on the raw batter, try to centralize in the center. Then bake as normal. The ganache sinks in the middle. I make them every year for Valentine’s Day for my family. This year, I made a raspberry sauce for it as well! It was so amazing.

    I looked to see if you've done this already, sorry if I missed it. If you wanted to plan ahead for Christmas I would love to see your take on a kransekake (Norwegian and Danish origin). You have to use a set of special molds for it but they're really fun to make and definitely a show-stopper. I highly recommend decorating it with little Norwegian toothpick flags and/or Christmas poppers for an fun interactive element. The cake itself tastes fine but not like you'd want to stuff your face, as I've seen people usually make them as a traditional decoration (also at weddings and other special occasions).

    My grandma makes mayonnaise cake, especially when we had picnics... it just says 'summer' to me. Too many people say 'yuck' when they hear it but you're missing out!

    Lovely looking cake! If you're kids are anything like mine, they cant wait to try it! The smell alone brings them all running, hording round the kitchen to see what mama cooked up. I think I'll be trying this recipe. Maybe with the addition of chopped Andes Mints..

    Portillo's, a chain of fast food restaurants in the Chicago area, makes their chocolate cake with mayo as well & it's the greatest thing since sliced bread or rather sliced cake.

    I always add a little sour cream to my chocolate cake really makes it taste better. Maybe 1/2 cup I thought a lot of people did that but I guess not too many people heard of it.

    My mom has made mayonnaise cake for my brother and I for our birthdays for as long as I can remember. Same goes for her and her brother on their birthdays. I used feel very insecure telling the kids at my school what was in our cupcakes we brought even though they always loved it. Looking back it seems silly to be insecure cause mayonnaise cake is delicious.

      Lauren Wright it isn't to replace the eggs, it is for moisture, to replace butter or oil.

      I was wondering the same. I would love to see how it turns out without the eggs and oil, just the mayo in their place.
