This is so awesome! Back in the day I used to modify DCT3 firmware files as well. One of my NokiX scripts was a "smart home" appliance. :) Nokia 3310 original batteries used to have a thermometer inside of them. So I created a little NokiX app that would respond to incoming SMS messages and reply back with the current temperature. Then I connected vibrator signal to a relay which was connected to the electric heater. This way I had remotely SMS operated electric heater. Wow, awesome video, what a flash back! I was spaceimpact33 on NokiaFREE forums and spent the better part of my teenage years learning to code by modding DCT-3’s. My best mod was porting a flash file system that that used the space between the MCU and PPM. Built some hooks that enabled storage of SMS messages on device instead is the SIM.
I'm pretty sure I had one of these as my first cellphone back in around 2000 when I was was probably 16. Telecom had a deal at my high school where you could trade in a Vodafone phone and like $50 to get a brand new Nokia and credit on the phone perhaps. The phones came in bright colours. It might have been a slightly different model, but similar. I recall there was a stubby antennae on them. I went down to cash converters and got a cheap worn out vodaphone phone for the deal. One boy got hold on an ancient bellsouth telephone which was a network here in New Zealand later bought out by Vodafone.

This video just showed up on my recommended! I've been using a custom rom on my phone for years now but had no clue these Nokia's were able to have their firmware modified! Awesome video :)
I have 2 x 6190 (1900 GSM version), 5190 (1900 GSM), and an AMPS analog add-on module (nickname surfboard), a programming cable that I have switched between the F and M bus, as I had to unlock some of them (NCK). I gave away a few of my collection to a (non technical, old gentleman) neighbor for his collection, so I forgot if I still have all of the above now. I never did any other hacking except for unlocking. I also had a few 5160 (1900 TDMA version) at one time, when a US MVNO had basically free service at one time. I also have a few 3390 as well, but sold them to my friend and I just have kept one. I remember my friend did a firmware update for my first 3390 at the time, as he was working as a tech at a dealer at the time. These are nice phones, I am sad that the GSM network had been shut down a few years ago, making these phones rather useless. (Except for things like in you video). Again thanks for the video, I am glad I bumped into your channel a few days ago by chance . Looks like we have quite a few things in common, but you are more hardworking in this than I am.

Wow was actually looking for my old Nokia running my version of MadOS the other day, and looking for the old geggo apps lol, thank for this will download and play about ASAP
The first read out of the 5110 didn't work because you pressed the power button for too long. You need to tap it shortly, NOT hold it to turn on the phone. It even says so in the status bar of Rolis. The reason for that is that a short power button press already makes the boot ROM in the ARM CPU of these things execute. It then either needs to receive the right handshake which Rolis constantly sends to load further code into RAM which then implements the flash read and write routines. If you hold the power button for too long, the phone just turns on and never loads the flashing code from Rolis.
I am convinced logo manager was exclusively used to load the logo of the phone owner's favourite footy team. Those are the only custom logos I ever saw on peoples phones
That is cool, I wonder how closely related these games are. There are some Siemens phones than can be modded in a similar way. I would like to try that one day when I can get one.

What's the internal memory on these phones? Never had one of those. Went from 1610 to 3410 with java straight ahead. Phones weren't that important back then...
The 5110 and 6110 have 2Mb of flash with about 700Kb free on the 5110 and less on the 6110. The 3410 has a 4Mb flash and a higher resolution screen. Modders really like that model.

i have a 5110 that i found in the alarm thing that calls the security service guys after someone breaks in the house, i think it has some modded firmware and i want to bring back the old one
I took apart an old alarm system a year or two ago and after removing the back plate, I discovered that the system for calling the security company was just an old mobile phone, wired into a couple of printed circuit boards. I was surprised but thinking about it, it's probably a cheap off the shelf way of doing it for low volume security products like that. Or at least it was.
Do the .nrx files contain the original code of the games taken from Nokia firmwares, like roms for the NES, or are these games created by fans based on the original Nokia games?
Where did you buy your empty nokia connector from? I have a 5110 in box but it only has power supply with it, I have no serial cable And I also dont want to destroy a good cable to build your cable so I hope someone still makes this connectors new

Hello there. Thanks for this instructional video. Where can I get original .fls flash files for dct3 devices? I found flash files with .mcu extension. I converted it to .fls file with “DCT3 flash converter” application. but nokix application gave error. can you help me please
Finding good fls files can be tricky. Not every fls file I found worked with Nokix. I think you need a full flash which has mcu and ppm together in the fls file. The biggest archive I've found is a Polish site. chomikuj.pl/chomikbox They have just about every flash file that was available for vintage Nokia.
In which lanuage are games/apps written for these DCT3 phones? Ok that was at the end of the video. They are written in C. For DCT4 is it also C or are they using Java?
Many DCT4 phones can run j2me Java apps. But these patches only work in DCT3 phones. Because DCT4 has stronger firmware security and can't be patched like this.
The Nokia 3110 is a DCT-2 phone from 1997. This software and hardware I used for DCT-3 can't flash DCT-2 and I don't know where you can find the firmware. Maybe you can try asking in GSM-Forum or some Russian forums for help.
for some reason after adding some games in the Nokix I have no success flashing the modified file, it says MCU CHK is bad and asks me if I want to solve this, pressing yes or no gives the same result with the "contact service" message on the phone screen, so I needed to flash the original file back to recover the phone. Can't find anything about this problem
If Nokix is giving an error when modifying flash files then try some different firmware versions. I did have a problem with some firmware files. They were either very early or later firmware versions and I had to use the more common versions instead.
Do you think i can use 74HC4050D level shifter instead? (which apparently does not invert the signal) Can i set whether the signal should be inverted or no in the settings?
@@JanusCycle well i tried it with two diodes in series on fbus rx and mbus and the dct3 flasher on windows 98 responded to the power button beig pressed but got stuck on some sort of waiting (i forgot the exact text, but it was just after "waiting for phone to power on")

I dont understand how it works for you, when it is clearly not connected by the scheme that you show in the video, I tried to do it from your video and then got back to scheme and im confused as hell

I started a small community of people learning and exploring phone modding and vintage computers, if you are interested in that sort of thing. The link is on the about page for this channel.
You could get a SIM7600E-H and mount it inside with a non-removable battery to make enough space inside and run software on the Nokia to control everything including GPS. Yes, it could be done, but it would be a huge project.
Nokia 5110i was the first mobile phone I used. My dad got it from his office. Nokia 3310 was a much better phone. I was so surprised when that phone vibrated.

Can you write me a list with all components you used to bulid a cable?
@@blakegriplingph I would search around for 'Nokia 3310 flash box cable'. Here is one I found. I've never ordered from this company but that cable looks exactly right. There are four pins to connect to the 3310 under the battery. www.cellcorner.com/xshp/unlock-phone-codes/nokia-3310-rj45-griffin-unlocking-cable.html It's best to make sure the cable has the ability to also use the battery. Some service boxes power the phone directly over the cable. If you get one of those cables you will need to wire up the battery to the cable as well.
I do have a ringtone editor/uploader but I haven't tried it yet. I would like to mod another Nokia phone. But I've been having trouble fixing the checksum.
The 6310i is a DCT4 based phone which I don't think is open to the same modification potential of Nokia's earlier DCT3 phones :( It's a pity because they are quality handsets.
@JanusCycle thx I could not find 1 on ebay so I bought the Toshiba Portege P7140. What is the name of the parallel port adapter you have. I am getting into mod/hacking the the 3310
I get my firmware files from a Polish website, chomikuj.pl/chomikbox They have a great range, including custom 3310 firmwares that I'm currently trying out.
The only way I know to flash old Nokia on Win 7 is to buy a dedicated flashing box such as JAF BOX. I simply found it easier and cheaper to use an old computer with a parallel port, install Win 98 and build a cable.
@@JanusCycle maybe its possible to get something like LPT to USB cable and install win 98 on virtual box? or it must be real hardware for it to work? i have nokia 7110 and it says CONTACT SERVICE after i turn it on, i would like to try to reflash it, and also looking for a cheap solution to connect it a modern PC.
@@gediminasvenclova117 The flashing software I have seen controls the Parallel port directly and I don't think will work over USB and not with virtual Win98. Contact Service can sometimes be fixed without flashing by recalculating the eeprom checksums and full factory reset using kNok-Phoenix software. This probably needs an MBus serial cable to do. Maybe a USB FBus cable can work for that, but having serial and parallel ports and real Win98 is always better working with these old Nokias. I love the screen on the 7110, I wish I had one!
@@JanusCycle All right, thanks for the such detailed answer! i will check maybe i will be able to get Mbus serial cable and start simple :) thanks again!

I have a 5110 in box but it only has power supply with it, I have no serial cable
And I also dont want to destroy a good cable to build your cable so I hope someone still makes this connectors new
I had this in a box of old Nokia stuff for a long time. Search for 'Nokia 5110 box cable' and find many options. I found this when searching for example. But I've never ordered from them, I don't know if they are ok. www.gsm-support.net/en/connector-for-nokia-5110-5130-6110-6210-p1124
The biggest archive I've found is a Polish site. chomikuj.pl/chomikbox
They have just about every flash file that was available for vintage Nokia.
@@JanusCycle Thanks 👍🏻
In which lanuage are games/apps written for these DCT3 phones? Ok that was at the end of the video. They are written in C.
For DCT4 is it also C or are they using Java?
Many DCT4 phones can run j2me Java apps. But these patches only work in DCT3 phones. Because DCT4 has stronger firmware security and can't be patched like this.
please help i need firmware file flashing nokia 3110 with old antenna
The Nokia 3110 is a DCT-2 phone from 1997. This software and hardware I used for DCT-3 can't flash DCT-2 and I don't know where you can find the firmware. Maybe you can try asking in GSM-Forum or some Russian forums for help.
Can u mod simple digital watch
for some reason after adding some games in the Nokix I have no success flashing the modified file, it says MCU CHK is bad and asks me if I want to solve this, pressing yes or no gives the same result with the "contact service" message on the phone screen, so I needed to flash the original file back to recover the phone. Can't find anything about this problem
If Nokix is giving an error when modifying flash files then try some different firmware versions. I did have a problem with some firmware files. They were either very early or later firmware versions and I had to use the more common versions instead.
@@JanusCycle thanks, i fixed this problem by adding kill mcu check plugin to the firmware. Now i can finally play Maze 3d and Breaker 😄
i know these phones ^^ the good phones where the alarm rings still the phone is turned off xD
Do you think i can use 74HC4050D level shifter instead? (which apparently does not invert the signal) Can i set whether the signal should be inverted or no in the settings?
As long as you convert the level to 2.8-2.9 Volts it should work. There are settings for inverting the signal.
@@JanusCycle well i tried it with two diodes in series on fbus rx and mbus and the dct3 flasher on windows 98 responded to the power button beig pressed but got stuck on some sort of waiting (i forgot the exact text, but it was just after "waiting for phone to power on")
@@JanusCycle sometimes it told me to power off the phone (it sometimes told me with both inverted and uninverted signal so i have no idea) and sometimes it started and after about an second it said done, but nothing was read
@@JanusCycle it said "wait for boot counter accept (tx=high)" actuall
Hello, can we generate random valid IMEI addresses specific to the device with noktools in the video? Where can I get noktools. And is there an alternative software you recommend to do what I said?
Plenty of useful Nokia tools here.
cosconor.fr/GSM/Nokia/Netmonitor/DCT-3/Tools/Diverse/
I don't know about IMEI because it's not useful for me.
14:52 Oxyd Ver 1 - Landscape 11 ist what I can think of ? 😄
How did you find working old phones , connectors , cables? 😲 That's so genius.
iirc after flashing you also need to update the faid and i see in this video that you seem to have a flash file with no faid. how is that done?
There is a NokiX patch called 'kill faid' that disables the check :)
I dont understand how it works for you, when it is clearly not connected by the scheme that you show in the video, I tried to do it from your video and then got back to scheme and im confused as hell
If you are able to email me photos of what you have built, I might be able to see where something may have gone wrong with your build.
Also, do you use Discord? I started a small community of people learning and exploring phone modding and vintage computers, if you are interested in that sort of thing. The link is on the about page for this channel.
Hey mate love this vid would love to modd these phones from 2g to 4g dunno if you have any ideas
You could get a SIM7600E-H and mount it inside with a non-removable battery to make enough space inside and run software on the Nokia to control everything including GPS. Yes, it could be done, but it would be a huge project.
@@JanusCycle thanks man keep up your awsome videos too
Nokia 5110i was the first mobile phone I used. My dad got it from his office. Nokia 3310 was a much better phone. I was so surprised when that phone vibrated.
Where did you get that connector you have soldered onto?
I've had that connector for a long time. One way to get these connectors these days is to buy a 5110 'box' cable and take the connector from that.
Sounds like Deus Ex music playing in background :D
haha ;) I remember this time so well.
But we had only serial cables, also for Mbus
something in my memory with a max chip...
Still have all these things in the closet ... time to wake up them again? :D
Can you write me a list with all components you used to bulid a cable?
Even better here is a schematic that names all the parts. rtfm.vtt.net/pinouts/data/nokia_flash_cable_pinout.shtml.htm
@@JanusCycle Thanks
One problem tho: where can I get a serial cable for the 3310 and does it need a (rare and expensive) box to operate?
You can easily modify those cables to work with the parallel port interface. No need for the expensive box.
@@JanusCycle I see. Do you know where I can buy one though?
@@blakegriplingph I would search around for 'Nokia 3310 flash box cable'. Here is one I found. I've never ordered from this company but that cable looks exactly right. There are four pins to connect to the 3310 under the battery.
www.cellcorner.com/xshp/unlock-phone-codes/nokia-3310-rj45-griffin-unlocking-cable.html
It's best to make sure the cable has the ability to also use the battery. Some service boxes power the phone directly over the cable. If you get one of those cables you will need to wire up the battery to the cable as well.
very cool video, have you tried to upload ringtones in .re file?
I do have a ringtone editor/uploader but I haven't tried it yet. I would like to mod another Nokia phone. But I've been having trouble fixing the checksum.
@@JanusCycle I understand, do u use any software to edit the firmware file itself?
Hi, I recently bought four 6310i phones. Can I use the same procedure to flash these phones? I didn't see the 6310i listed.
The 6310i is a DCT4 based phone which I don't think is open to the same modification potential of Nokia's earlier DCT3 phones :( It's a pity because they are quality handsets.
What is the laptop make and model you are using thx
It's a Toshiba Portege 3110CT
@JanusCycle thx I could not find 1 on ebay so I bought the Toshiba Portege P7140. What is the name of the parallel port adapter you have. I am getting into mod/hacking the the 3310
I would really interested in modding my nokia with c code, possibilities are infinite as my ram :)

so i have a box and flashing requires mcu and ppm file. how can i convert fls from the vid to mcu+ppm?
Try this flash file converter. I don't use it so i don't know how good it is. drive.google.com/file/d/1TVkIqVLfDG1NiKeykQq_WXKXgd0ntzNQ/view
@@JanusCycle thanks
That was cool.
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed.
Era posible modificar estos celus? Increible😊
Link for download this firmware? Mcu+ppm?
I get my firmware files from a Polish website, chomikuj.pl/chomikbox They have a great range, including custom 3310 firmwares that I'm currently trying out.
me encanta estos mini juegos sobre todo el oficial monkikis castle el primer 3d de nokia 🥵
Can it be done with an rj45 cable and possibly windows 7 because I would really like to know the answer after seeing this video
Could you possibly create a parallel to female usb A adaptor that you then make usb to different adaptor cables?
One day in future younger generation will forget or will not be in a position handle all the things which are core building block of the hitech gadgets and you will not find any one to fix the software or drivers.
How very prophetic of you.
Tek kelime ile! Bravo.
Thank you!
Hi where did you buy your nokia 5110 thank you and more power to your channel. Love from my beautiful country the philippines
Someone gave it to me many many years ago. There are many DCT-3 Nokia models that people have stored away and forgotten about, that are worth finding them and modding. Thank you for your kind message from the Philippines.
possible to add Bluetooth to Nokia 8310?
nice video sir👌👌
Is it possible to change ESN on a DCT-3 Nokia? I would like to activate a CDMA Nokia.
CDMA Nokias are mysterious, I've never seen one.
