Rockaway Beach in Pacifica is a must-visit spot if you live in the Bay Area, and is within an hour drive from most locations in the peninsula. There are wonderful waves for viewing or surfing depending what your style is. There are both walking paths and hiking trails in the surrounding park.
Closer to San Francisco is Daly City's Thornton State Beach, which also offers plenty of walking trails as well as a horseback riding staging area that you can enjoy. The waves are great to view from above, but you can also hike down to the beach if you like, but the waves can often fill the entire beach so beware and make sure you can swim.
Angel Island is another must-see location in the Bay, with ferries that can take you from both Tiburon or San Francisco. Angel Island State Park offers a variety of different hiking and walking paths for all skill and age levels.
