- Someone recently asked in a forum I frequent: "Why are we here?"
This is the answer to that question, from the end of _Dogma_, (c) 1999
www.imdb.com/title/tt0120655/
www.amazon.com/Dogma-Blu-ray-B...
THIS is a modern classic.
30 years later, Alanis Morissette looks exactly the same. I am not sure she isn't God.
without alanis you are just a pion up and down pete, i g will shall show you as a betrayer
Jesus is God
30 years? Your math is a little off, movie came out in 99..
You can't be sure, because she really IS God.
She looks much better honestly. Think about that…she looks BETTER 30 years later. That’s actually crazy
“Don’t worry about it. Just have fun and be silly.”
I think she said "You are the answer to the question.".... But the Bwerp is so fucking cute! :D
"Your here for YOU." Beautiful
Why are we here?
God wanted noses to boop.
a childish response for a childish question. "why are we here?" it's an impossibly large question, and i'm sure the answer is even more so. instead of god giving her a full answer far too great for 1 human to bare, she gave a lil nose boop and a smile. it's like explaining light radiation and perceptible color spectrum to a child asking "why is the sky blue?" to which a beleaguered parent might respond "because it just is" or "i think it looks better blue than green" or "because that's how a mysterious capricious deity...i mean god made it".
why are we here? because we are. we're here because we're here because we're here. might as well be a nose boop.
Saw this as a first date, I was a non-practicing Catholic seeing this film with a (unknown at the time) devoted Lutheran. Did not go well.
But we continued to date, and a while later I decided to show her another favorite, Chasing Amy. That went worse! lol
My dad explained the reason why she did that. That boop to the nose is what parents do to us children. God was telling her that we are all his children
my guess is it meant "who knows"
I think she was saying the answer to the why are we here question is that she got it on the nose. We are here to figure out why we're here, like a paradox, or dichotomy. We just haven't yet. We're here to find out why we're here.
@@Ogrematic touché
@@Knightfall-Batman Enchante, si vous plait.
We're here to make more of us...That is the only reason for existence.
God: The Answer is on the nose.
Hence, the nose boop. She / He want us to find it out for ourselves. If we just get told the answer, we'll never learn.
it's amazing how it makes sense
Alanis is and will always be my God. I. Am. Canadian.
You'd think a god would know what ironic means. And she didn't.
Couldn't speak because the words will spring out as creation. She put that safety line on Morgan Freeman's version. His words only have effect, not create.
The 90s baggy jackets LOL
Who needs faith when you are burdened with an over abundance of evidence.
That would make her an Apistevist
Rufus was George Carlin's character name in Bill and Ted 💯
I just watched this and was thinking the same thing. What a fucking Easter egg that one was.
OMG BEERP is why we're her! I knew it!
best answer eva lol
Silent bob: Thanks
lol
thank you.....
Yep ❤
She has no faith, she has knowledge.
Alanis is awesome 👏 ❤😂
Still ❤who is god? Lol? Yep 👍
We know all about Jesus Christ kinda of lol heaven lol right ain’t that funny lol 😂❤😇🙏🏻👏
You amuse me.
Because, of course, Alanis. I mean, who else?
Alway loved this movie.
I found this movie to be awe inspiring.
Why is the like button at 665? I'm not pressing it. I'm not.
No ticket
2:00 Silent Bob Bluntsky: Thanks.
Will there be a dogma 2 ?
Doesn't need to be one, look at clerks 2.
the Bible 2: Electric Boogaloo
@@davidjones3165 well there is a Clerks 3 so...
Bob and Harvey Weinstein own the rights so probably not. Maybe when they die.
I have been thinking the same thing
it came out in the early 90's. There's no such thing as spoilers at this point
I give you thumbs up. :D
Shes cute until she explodes your head.
I thought ALAN RICKMAN😢 and then… Dogma??? Lickma ligma sugma ballz
My favorite movie also introduced me to the most fantastic female singer ever she is god
MWERP
gotten me out of many awkward situations lol
incredible movie and cast
The question should be, not "Why are we here?", but "Why do you allow suffering in your beautiful world?"
Free willl
@@mlpencola Nope. That's not it.
@@mcarp555 People choose to suffer and make others suffer.
@@jaimetheone9150 I don't think people choose for children to have cancer or floods to sweep away loved ones.
@@mcarp555 Yeah...they do. We've done had the CURE for Cancer decades ago. Same with c19 or anything else that's threatening to wipe out humanity this week. We just choose not to release it cuz of greed. Greed that has now shifted away from citizens to rulers.
As far as flood sweeping away loved ones? That's the planet defending itself from a species that have damaged it.
God allows this kind of suffering because God knows that he/she/they/it can cause irreversible suffering if he/she/they/it chooses. That's not going to come any time soon but when it does, trust me. Its gonna be quick, painless, and it'll be done in the blink of an eye.
I only kinda believe in God but yeah, God is MUCH more powerful than any of us could hope to imagine. It's why us humans are trying to make everything into AI. We fear God's wrath so we're gonna try and manufacture our own variation of it.
@Joelfan14 lol it's mine too! So cute :D
Mine too
"Spoiler Alert"??? The movie is almost 20 years old, not much to spoil here
FerretJohn Except if you haven't seen it.
Seems like a blatant doctor who reference, but whatever.
what's the reference?
@@gregnulik1975 I've watched most of new who. Calling this a doctor who reference just because God looks like Alanis, without any confirmation this is not the face God has always had, seems a bit of a stretch
@@landerdumoulin8725 And, God would choose to look like Morisette for no reason isn't a bit of a stretch ?
How do we know Dogma's God didn't make poor life choices watching an infomercial at O dark thirty in the wee morning ?
@@gregnulik1975 the movie universe never even acknowledges it, which means they might not have a singer called Alanis Morissette. It's like saying "angel chose to look like Ben Affleck, somehow that's a doctor who reference."
Yes. Spoiler alert for an ancient ass movie.
I love people referring to 1999 as prehistoric times.
You must be 12.
I can accept Alanis Morissette as god, provided she doesn't actually talk. God I cannot stand that woman's voice.
That's the one question she had for the almighty supreme being creator?
This movie went entirely too softly on religion and religiosity.
I know it wasn't Smith's intention to go much deeper than lampooning the silly Catholic beliefs and doctrines.
