Hahahahahaha, I really love Antonio's enthusiasm for the Evans Gambit. Indeed, considering that Magnus went for some crazy gambles in this game (justified, given the score), perhaps trying the Evans Gambit wouldn't have been such a crazy idea. But, the thing is, these guys are professionals, and probably they know all the ins and outs of such a popular opening, so I consider it was a good decision to just try a normal opening, and then try to complicate things, even if it didn't work. Congratulations to Levon. A wild day for him, and it's not usual to see Magnus defeated in such convincing and decisive way. Levon, once again, shows why he's been one of the top players of the last fifteen years.
Even if the Evans Gambit is considered refuted by modern theory, is it really likely that every top GM has memorized all of the lines? Since no one ever plays it at the top level, who would prepare for it?
Wait, couldn't Magnus win? Right at the end, Rxg6+ fxg6, Ne7+ picking up the rook? If black moves the king, free bishop, Rxg65 and you have 2 knights for the rook and everyone has weak pawns. Seems playable? Am I missing something?

To the fifty+ people posting about RxG6 and then forking the rook and king please look at the board and realize that the bishop on e6 covers the rook and will just capture the knight leading to an even exchange of material. Since Magnus was already behind this is not going to help him win. Thanks.
An even exchange of material yes, but Magnus will have doubled up black's pawns and created a passed pawn for himself. I don't think this is winning but probably the best move anyway.
@@danduran4981 Levon advances with a draw so this trade doesn’t help Carlson who has to win. More material off the board just leads to easier draw for Levon. Plus rook plus bishop is way better endgame than bishop plus knight. A doubled up pawn and a passed pawn isn’t going to make up for that.

At the 9:18 mark on the video, near the end of the game, Magnus could have eliminated the defender of the E7 square by taking Knight on G6 with his Rook with check. If the Rook is taken by the pawn, you follow up immediately with a fork of the king and rook with Knight to E7 and win a piece.
