The finest recording of this concerto! it has integrity, cohesiveness, and momentum. It's a shame that this recording went down the maelstrom of oblivion ever since the rise of the Du Pré lunacy.
*THIS* is one of the great recordings of the Elgar concerto. Forget du Pré, but Navarra with Barbirolli and Fournier here, along with Tortelier and Sargent are supreme in this work, the latter probably being the greatest.

Totally agree with you. JDP largely a product of record company overhyping. Similarly, Menuhin, Lang Lang, Pavarotti et al.
@davveist g Lunacy is correct. Du Pré introduced an indulgent vulgar take on the Elgar concerto that has infected growing minds to this day.

Du pré was overhyped by the brit press as they did with Kathleen Ferrier.
