    This interpretation gets the highest score for several reasons. Pierre Fournier is the great lord, the richness of his tone, of his "elegant and aristocratic" sonorities reach the sublime in the slow movement. The sound recording, magnificent, exalts the depth of his phrasing. George Szell, what a conductor! We remember his direction of Brahms' first piano concerto with C. Curzon (bit.ly/3rkdASC). He is definitely the ideal accompanist. We have rarely heard such an osmosis between conductor and soloist. With Dvorak, the writing for the woodwind section is important and the Czech Philharmonic is renowned for its woodwinds. Here the Berlin Philharmonic sounds like the Czech Philharmonic, the woodwinds are magnificent and the strings soft yet incisive. One of the recordings to take to a desert island. There is a lot to say about this wonderful interpretation but we leave some for you! We look forward to reading your comments :) *Click to activate the English subtitles for the presentation* (00:00-02:15)

    Wonderful playing from Pierre Fournier, and the Berlin Philharmonic are absolutely magnificent. The flute player really stands out. At first I thought it was James Galway, but of course it couldn't have been, it was another ten years before Galway became First Flautist. I love Pierre Fourier's playing because his playing is technically fantastic along with the old school playing and beautiful tone from the past. A bit like the playing of Heifetz. It's been a long time since I have listened to Pierre Fournier's playing, but I will definitely be listening to much more of this Great Player.

    Per me la composizione dove Dvorak raggiunge il picco della sua produzione per qualità,invenzione,tecnica,... tutto.
    Grande interpretazione di Fournier e dei Berliner. Memorabile interpretazione e magnifica ragistrazione.
    Un sentito ringraziamento per questo splendido inserimento.

    This has always been my pick for recordings of this concerto. Fournier's aristocratic playing and Szell's dynamic, yet flexible conducting are spot on.

    You comment that the Berlin Phil sounds like the Czech Phil and I thought when I heard the beginning you might have made a mistake and it was indeed the Czech. That was until I read your introduction. When it was issued I bought the beautifully presented anniversary lp recording of Casals with Szell ( believe). In a turbulent period of my life I sadly lost that lp but this performance by Fournier is a most welcome addition to RUclips. It is uplifting. Szell was usually adept at getting what he wanted from almost any orchestra!

There is nothing Father you cannot do; because you are the Father of everything that we need and want. Thank you Lord for all that you have done and for what you continue to do in our lives.

    Perfect interpretation pf glorious music.I have Beethoven sonatas by him.He was a must.But I feel that Jacqueline Dupré is and will be may be for many years the musa of the cello in this concert (and of course,Elgar),beyond her tragic end. Piatigorsky,Rostropovich,Yo-Yo-Ma gave excellent perfomances but I cannot match them with Jacqueline Dupré visceral play (comparing her with Casals play).

      Of course, we have already published the recording of Du Pré. An extremely committed performance. The Ginette Neuveu of the cello. Barenboim's accompaniment is not as exceptional as Szell's in this version but it is still quite exemplary and recommendable.

      Jacqueline Du Pre not The greatest Best cellist Ever! The Best cellists Are really=Gaspar Cassado ( The most beautiful cello tone and sound much Better than Du Pre's) Gary Hoffman ( The KING) Daniil Shafran ( The GOD) Arto Noras ( The biggest loudest Cello tone and sound! Jacqueline Du Pre a small tiny tone in The Big concert Hall) Karine Georgian! The really Bad cellists Are=Yo-Yo Ma ( The most Boring ever!) Mischa Maisky ( Maisky= The most over-rated ever! Maisky was only 6th place in The Tchaikovsky Cello competition! ) Natalia Gutman ( The Bad vibrato).

    I here propose a remastering of Pau Casals avec George Szell in Praga (1937) or His last presentation at Casals Festival in Puerto Rico when he was 84 years old,still the great Maestro,with an honest perfomance under Alexander Schneider (viola-violon interpreter).Here we hear the cello and Casals frequent moanings or lamentation in emotional counterpoint.

    • @michaels7889
      @michaels7889 2 года назад

      This corrects my memory. I think this performance by Casals might have been the one issued as a remastered anniversary LP (1950's?) that I mentioned in my comment above! It was long one of my favourite LP's along with the Curzon Brahms.
