When Mortal Kombat from Midway hit the arcade gaming scene every developer realized that this new arcade fighting game on the block basically printed money...and every developer wanted a piece of the action! Hence the Mortal Kombat clone genre...of which Survival Arts is a member! And it may very well be one of the worst fighting games of all time!

Hello and welcome to "The Unported Playlist" - JANKTOBERFEST EDITION
On this episode of Unported Playlist we are taking a look at Survival Arts, a 2D vs fighting game in the same vein as Mortal Kombat! It has bad motion capture fighters like MK...and the same sense of humor! Except I dont think the sense of humor was intentional here!
It will never challenge King of Fighters or Street Fighter for the fighting game throne...and wow is it janky...but it's heart is in the right place! It’s an arcade hidden gem if you like weird.
I played this via MAME emulation! Emulators for the win!

I have just come across an interview with one of the cast members of the game, this being one Sam Radetsky (not Rodetsky as the credits claim) who played Dantel (Damn, that name always made me think of Baron Dante from Croc) and shared some interesting insights about his involvement with the project. I know you have a lot of knowledge about various hardware/software but...I don't think that SNK cart works w the N64, just a hunch.

I literally don't understand the blocks in the health bar if they are just going to be slid through like a standard healthbar anyway lol.

and the ridiculous sound effects for hits, like an even sludgier snes

@@VideoGameEsoterica I admire wild combo systems that deny all sense of fair play. Poor man's Fist of the North Star in that sense.

While I wouldn't call it a good fighting game I think it's far from the worst of the MK Clones. Huge well animated sprites. Absolutely tacky and over the top in visual and gameplay design. It's memorable in that respect and it doesn't actually feel bad to play in terms of responsiveness. Hit impacts feel decent too (the screen shake tho...). It does alright with some of those intangibles other games of the era might have missed. I think the worst kind of game is a boring game. This certainly isn't dull. I'd call it campy, even.
Worst is subjective. For me this is it. For others it’s something else :)

Any statement of opinion is subjective, obviously, but I know how argumentative people are on the internet, so I even added a ton of "I think" to make it extra clear that this is just my opinion and yet here I am, responding to such a redundant thing.
