Glad to see someone save an RDC from scrap and restore it to working order, I think Rapido is the coolest model company because they help restore actual trains. I hope they continue to do this..
I'm glad you guys are continuing to preserve real trains! It would be neat if you restored an RDC4 (an RDC with just mail and baggage. only 14 were built, and two are still owned by VIA rail!)

Im planning on purchasing two of each type of RDC in the future, and possibly converting some RDC1s to the proposed diner and sleeper RDC's, also known as RDC6s and RDC7s. Maybe in the future i might purchase some of the other dead RDCs in your yard, who knows!
Stuff like this is why I love you guys at rapido. You make it feel like you guys are more than just a business, but instead actual rail fans. I’m sure there are actual rail fans in other model train companies, but you guys make it clear on who you really are! Then there is of course what you do with your RUclips channel with posting stuff like this instead of only using your channel for showing off new products. Anyways love you guys at rapido and what you do keep it up!
can't wait to show my mom this video, her father or grandfather most likely worked on this exact train when it was here in Victoria operating on the E&N Railway running passengers up and down from Victoria to Courtney. Absolutely beautiful little locomotive
@@rapidotrains yeah, I showed her it and she thought it was cool. I also specifically showed her the control panel because she had been in that space before.
Now all that needs to be done is save a few more and refit them as a show train to showcase there product on the go. While saving the lovely railcars at the same time.
I rode on an RDC a long time ago, only the engines were within two cabinets inside the coach in the center of the coach, so you had to pass through a short narrow passage to get from one end of the coach to the other, thus there were a couple of windows missing in the middle. Also, the whole train smelled like diesel the whole trip! I like the smell of diesel, but this was so intense I almost thought the passengers were all at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning from this thing! Still, glad you saved 6133 :-) I'm gonna go order my HO version now...
Hmm, no. RDC's all have the engines underneath driving crankshafts to the trucks. The cabinets you describe are in the middle and house the connections to the equipment on the roof. And yes, RDC's smell of diesel inside :)
Some old pictures I've seen of commuter lines like Metro North, MBTA, and SEPTA using decrepit RDCs makes them look miserable. All smokey and filthy. I'm sure they're nice when they're taken care of though.
Wow thumbs up from a big RDC fan. I live in New Brunswick now but I took the "Dayliner" RDC-1 from Peterborough to Toronto once a week in the 1980s. CP Rail. Nice work guys ❤
Great to get this from an ex Cullen Detroit Diesel mechanic like myself. We spent many an all-nighter on this car on the 6-110 Series Detroit (GM Diesel) trying to get it ready for the day run up-Island from Victoria West back in the day.
1: what’s going on with that dude that keeps getting pushed around? 2: Transtronic E Bells and Wabco horns fit perfectly on an RDC 3: Congrats on restoring the RDC! It’s so cool that such an important part of railroading has been preserved!
Congrats on the continuing restoration of this classic RDC! 6133! Hopefully it will be totally restored by summer. And you'll be able to run excursions! And I also saw the LRC,S 1st run in more than a decade! Hopefully VIA Rail will permit excursions on the Toronto to Montreal mainline again where she really belongs!
I used ride them( we used to call them "Buddliners") from Gloucester, Ma to Boston to watch the Bruins & Celtics at the Boston Garden which was part of North Station. I liked the fact that the seat backs could flip so you had 2 passengers facing 2 passengers, perfect for card playing! When the Boston & Maine was taken over by the MBTA they began to remove the power of the RDC's and use them as passenger cars and eventually replace all of them ( Unless they have some in reserve) and no more flip seat backs. Great video, it brings back fun times. Best Regards, Jay
@@rapidotrains I remember seeing the conductor flipping the seats facing the trains direction of the return trip as passengers exited at the end of the line. Is the floor, seats and bulkheads of the interior one molded sub assembly? Perhaps a re-design showing a few with 4 passengers facing each other playing cards would be cool! Even passengers working with a lap top. You could come out with the "2020 Special" with passengers and crew wearing masks! Best regards, Jay
Glad you got her running again boys. Rail history has to be preserved and you guys are doing it. By the way I like how Jordan is companies whipping boy lol.

A % of the Cash to travel up could break that down into the Maintenance & Fuel of the RDC and LCV and your Restoration programs. You could operate as an Early Diesel Heritage Group and enjoy the labours of your Work in preserving Canadian Rail. Perhaps by checking into CP or CN Locomotive Surplus, perhaps a few of the old Freight Locos from the 50's could be saved as well. Although the SD40-2 ( My favourite ) is not in that category, the older GP40-2 from the early GO era could be. A group of us were talking about that. As well as the F Units with the ABA from VIA and the single F units from GO would also be a cool catch. What do you think.. I know it is expensive, But the CPR Havlock runs a few times up and down during the week, mind you the speeds are like 20 MPH. But perhaps something to Possibly Think About, instead of leasing to another organisation, why not start one of your own, with the Help of the Big Boys as well. Thank You
