Price is not the issue. With the new Tacoma and Colorado meeting the insane demand for more tech and complexity it leaves the Ridgeline as an outdated or lesser option. I personally would rather have the Ridgeline for its simplicity and J series V6 but the average new car buyer wants their car loaded with tech, and gimmicks which the Ridgeline can’t compete with. The Tacoma and Colorado can be optioned out to $65k which is a lot more than the top trim Ridgeline.

I think Honda would sell twice as many Ridgelines if it sold for $5000 less. That would still only be 8500-9000 trucks per month but it is on the price is high end for what it is. The Passport and Pilot are even more expensive. ALL mid-size trucks are too much. I love my 25 Trailsport Ridgeline very much but in Hindsight it was more expensive than I could afford.

TWO reasons I do not own one of the latest Ridgelines....PRICE and LACK OF INVENTORY. Price has gotten to high and I could not find one to buy during the pandemic. Even now, the one I want is never available at a dealer nearby. Even used, finding a 22-24 spec'd the way I want is very hard. I looked the other day, only 2 on the eastern seaboard.
Maverick is beating in sales because of Price. There is nothing on the market close to the Ridgeline for what it is. Maverick and Santa Cruz are the Cheesesteaks to the Ridgelines Ribeye. I looked at them. They were so cheap...and sad. My mechanic would love for me to buy a GM, Ford, or Dodge truck as it would keep him busy. With the new Toyota trucks being problem vehicles, that leaves a Ridgeline...if I could find one.

It is my second Ridgeline (had a 2007 Ridgeline for 10 years) and if Honda ever comes out with a plugin hybrid, Ridgeline, I will upgrade again. Other wise I will be keeping this Ridgeline for the foreseeable future.
PS: The Ridgeline was not designed to be an off road vehicle so it is a bit silly to be constantly dishing it because, it is not what, it was not, designed to be. What it is, is an exceptional pickup truck that will meet the needs of the vast majority of buyers of pickup trucks. If someone needs an off road vehicle, or to tow very heavy trailers, then why would they consider a Ridgeline?

You are close but miles away. It's not just the price but lack of value for that price. A truck buyer is looking for versatility. That's why the Ford Maverick is dominating this segment.
    Better fuel economy
Equipped to tow 4000 lbs legally with a brake controller and a hitch that doesn't reduce departure angles.
Higher ground clearance up to 9.4 inches with the Tremor
A full size spare tire availability
Able to access the spare tire with the bed loaded
Having an engine that produces high HP and torque at a lower RPM
Not having an engine that shuts cylinders off creating cold spots.
Keeping the load height low by not making a trunk that is ergonomically incorrect and it's an accident waiting to happen.
Keep in mind most states towing 3000lbs or more require brakes on the trailer.
25 Ford offering hitch assist and trailer backup assist.
Also to increase the versatility of the trucks bed on the Ford Maverick is flex bed allowing several configurations to reduce items rolling and accommodating longer and larger items safely with tie downs.
So yes the Honda Ridgeline needs a complete overhaul to be competitive. I heard rumors they are thinking of discontinuing it. That's before the merger with Nissan. Hopefully they can make a vehicle truck owners are looking for.

It can tow 5k, but that 5k is meant to be small campers, jetski's, lawnmower trailers, things of that nature. It still beats all the others in that it can lay flat 4x8 sheets of sheetrock and plywood, exactly what the average homeowner needs.

There are also many other things that can not be modified as well or to costly. Only way 4x8 sheets fit if angled which compromises it's integrity. So the majority of the listed shortcomings have existed for years. The only one that truly has any impact is the lower cost competition from Ford and Hyndai cutting into the Ridgelines market segment. That being said, keep in mind that the automobile market as a whole is taking a dump. The industry overproduced due to the overreaction to higher sales post COVID. To make matters worse auto manufacturers have been taking a bath on their multi billion dollar EV investments. Ford for example is losing tens of thousands on every EV they sell. To somewhat make up for these loses they raised the prices on ICE vehicles. So you have the combination of overstock, high prices along with significant inflation to deal with.
