I took a major heart attack after breaking my back overseeding my yard on Monday, thankfully it happened in my doctor's office later that day during my monthly follow-up appointment otherwise I'd probably be dead. Now I'll probably see the same old 30% of growth again, the only difference is that this time is my last time, so I sure hope something somewhat decent looking grows in because I'm in absolutely no physical health to do any of this again. It's sad that for the last 2-years I've been fighting tooth-and-nail trying to grow in a measly 1500 sq, yd, lawn and have fought every negative thing you can imagine just killing off everything I grew in over and over.......yeah, I'm just about done here, both figuratively AND literally 😢
Don’t be sorry brotha! I renovated my yard and did irrigation two years ago and it was one of the most stressful months of my life lol definitely paid off
Not enough water and too much heat. Here is why I think that. That large tree undoubtedly casts shadows on that section that filled in, even if it is early morning that can be the difference maker of a few more hours of moisture. The second thing is that grid pattern. That is from the overlapping mats and that double layer will insulate the ground and protect from wind and over all just have more water holding capacity. You can also see a few low spots having more seed as that is where moisture will pool. Your new strat of 1min every hour is too little. If that is from 10-6 I'd look for 5 mins from 12-4 at least, it kind of depends on your conditions but that would be where I would start to rule out lack of water.
I have a video im editing now that will address all you folks thoughts and concerns on me doing this wrong lol. Hopefully with that video it will explain on what’s going on better!
I wouldn't stress I did full kbg reno 5k square feet last September I wasn't able to mow it untill this past June lol and now it's so thick you can't even see the dirt unless u dig through the grass with your finger lol def was a long process and alot of weed control but I fought the fight had patience and now I'm cutting it at one inch lol and it looks amazing for only been just a year since seed and btw mine looked very similar to this and actually stayed like that for couple months I thought it was never gonna grow but now I can't even keep up with mowing it 😂
@@sheenstyle33 oh I’m good! I made a video addressing some of the comments which isn’t released yet. A lot of folks don’t under the circumstances of the land and such and think I’m doing it wrong but the issue is they don’t deal with anything other than flat ground which is easy to be patient on!
KBG will test your patience for sure. You think it is a failure, but eventually it comes around and fills in or finally pops up in areas you thought were a lost cause. It is the most frustrating grass to grow from seed by far.
Once it gets going it will fill in faster than you think I had some very bare areas that were slow to come in but ended up nice and thick you’ll just have to deal with weeds. Don’t worry KBG looks kinda crappy for the first 2-4 months lol definitely add more seed in areas with no germination but you’d be surprised how thin areas will fill in.
Kbg Reno isn't for the faint of heart. You obviously know what you're doing - mine in some areas took over 3 weeks to really start growing in. Even after 2 months, it still doesn't look great, but I've heard the phrase "sprout, then pout". I bet by next April, it'll look fine. This is the main reason why I mainly use fescue and rye now, it can be frustrating at times with kbg
Is it possible that you are overwatering? The soil looks very wet. I seeded 25k sqft of kbg with irrigation last fall and spots that were getting more water from the sprinklers were definitely more weak and took longer to establish. That could be your issue.
Very well could be although what was strange is those blankets hold moisture and where they were overlapping that’s where the best germination was so idk honestly.
@@Primetime_FescueI wondered the same thing, the overlap lines seemed to germinate better. Wondering if it was actually under watered in spots and the overlapping helped retain moisture
Personally it either washed or it was buried to deep! Did rain hard 30mins after I seeded for about 15 mins but the strange thing is where the looser dirt is that’s where the least amount of germination is! Seems like where the seed was just laying on top is where it’s the fullest! When I reseeded it I just spread seed directly on top noting covering it at all.
You need way more patience than this. KBG takes 3 weeks or more to germinate, and once it initially does, it'll stall for weeks before it gets a growth spurt (called sprout and pout). KBG is not for the faint of heart. I've grown it up north for years but recently seeded TTTF because of how bad it does in the slightest of warm temps (70 plus). You may eventually regret seeding KBG (especially down south) but just try to hang in there.
It’s was 3 weeks or 19 days! There was absolutely no grass in big spots so nothing to sprout and pout there. What was I gonna do let dirt wash down into my rocks when it rains hard? Can’t have that! If it was flat ground I would have been willing to wait a little longer.
@@Primetime_Fescue It's in there, just be patient as mentioned earlier. KBG seed is super tiny and much smaller than most other seed. I get what you're saying but that is how KBG germinates. It always looks as if you either didnt seed enough or it was lost to rainfall. Patience grasshopper.....

It is looking better from when this video was filmed. Just now getting germination from the seed I put down the afternoon of this video but even before the new seed germinated it was getting a little better obviously not where there was nothing at though!
Absolutely not!!! At the time of this recording it was almost 21 days! So many folks believe the hype that soil temps have to be 70 to 65 degrees when seeding and this simply isn’t the case! I had fescue germinating at 3 days with soil temps around 75 degrees! Those soil temps 70-65 are the optimal temps for cool season grass to grow has noting to do with the germination! I e always found that the warmer the soil temps the better germination I see! That’s not to say a higher soil temp isn’t hurting the growth once it germinates but as far as germination goes the warmer the quicker it happens!

Then you have put and sprout which could take a week or two where it does nothing. I seeded with after midnight and Mazama 11 days ago at 6lb/K and just barely getting germination. I did get a little in about 8 days. I did seed in sand and am watering 6x a day. Kbg needs patience. I will be overseeding with obsidian Perennial Rye from Twin City Seed in a month. I wanted to give the kbg a head start.
I've alway have had horrible results when seeding and applying tenacity simultaneously, I think your possibly overlooking this.. next time experiment with and without tenacity and I think you'll be surprised
No I sprayed mefenoxam and Azoxystrobin over the top after seeding. Imo it either washed or I buried it to deep. Seed is extremely small and just can’t put it as deep as fescue and it may have happened idk but I will get it!
Too much watering. Every hour watering sounds so bad. Water 3X a day. Watering: 10am, 2pm, and 6pm at 7 mins per watering. Simple and trust the process. Get some better cultivars as well.
@@Primetime_Fescue 3x a day but at what duration. If it's puddles then dial the time down. Simple, everyone's irrigation is different so you have to adjust accordingly. Top soil just has to be moist, not drench or puddles.

I was watering it 3x a day at 3 and 3 mins per watering it puddles 2min wasn’t enough so I had to move it to 1min every hour that’s actually less time at 1min from 10 to 3 vs 3 mins 3 times a day! 10-3 5hours which is 5mins. 3x3=9mins! 2mins was t enough in between watering to keep it from drying out.
Very possible and I agree 100% seen germination at 5 days in a pot and 6 days out there or what is there lol that’s why I seeded it again I waited right at 21 days if it wasn’t there I personally don’t think it was coming!

This is correct. Takes a good 30 days and slightly lower temps for good KBG coverage to form. Keep watering and cross your fingers 😊

Give it some Green pop. I just gave my kbg seedlings an application yesterday and they’ve responding today. Amazing stuff!
Stick with TTTF. Try some of the LS. I'm overseeding with high quality LS TTTF this week. Can't wait to see it.

Give that another 5-7 days, I've only done KBG reno's and you'd be surprised about how much will come up between 5 days and 20 days after seed down.

When this was filmed it was 19 or 20 days. No seed was there and nothing coming up where it was bare.

Looks overwatered. Seed rotted. Throw down some more seed and dry it up, should turn out fine.
