- Dr. Russ reviews this popular series of break barrel air rifles from Gamo at his backyard range, comparing every feature right down to each gun’s cost. Here again is another example of his independent analyses of the top four selling air guns from one of Europe’s earliest air gun manufacturers… Gamo.

You’re absolutely correct! My swarm whisper and my new DX are the same as maxxim and viper ! I also have two gen 3 mags 22 and 177 ! My 22 whisper and DX are my go too! Dead accuracy over 1,000 shots and awesome! Tighten LOCTITE those stocks screws big difference! The mags are nice but the breaking and price go to Gamo USA snag a DX $139 you’ll thank me later I promise guys 👊🏻👍

One of the best informative videos I've seen, and I watch videos on photoshop and prepping, and most of the videos are done so amateurish, I seldom watch them to the end. About the pellets loading in the magazine.
There is a "spring" in the magazine, if you fill it with the pellets you actually have to push the pellets over the spring to let it keep in place.
Already found out with the second loading of the magazine.
If you put the pellets in like you showed, and how you THINK it should be good, you can have the experience you mentioned. That the pellets might fall out with breaking the barrel.
I hope you , and all the others can have this advantage in loading.
btw, i use a rounded rod, like an old screwdriver that I rounded off, to push the pellet with the head over the spring.
Have fun with the shooting.
I do. 😁🥰😊

Great review Sir. You cover everything on gamo rifles. Best review on here.👍
Greetings after over a year to you sir. I gained an appreciation for break barrels. One thing that I didn't mention in previous comments. Regarding the Whisper I owned, no issues ever with the magazines. Although, I wanted to know if you've experienced any difficulties with longer pellets pellet length is only one reason I'm considering purchasing more quality economy and old school expensive side - lever, under lever and break barrel rifles. There are what I refer to as 'pellet sticks' which are essentially speed loaders for pellets, that can be used for convenience as well. I corresponded with you within thr last 17 months, and purchased my first PCP rifle during the summer. I am an aspiring 'F - Class' rifle shooter with years of high power rifle shooting experience, preceded by small bore, air rifle and air pistol during adolescence. Your video caused a pleasant memory to recall again. I won the regional smallbore championship with a biathalon Anschutz (1710??) back in 1992 with a t- shirt and standard M1 Garand sling. Then I realized the critical importance of ammunition blocks to keep count of the rounds after disqualifying the score with one too many shots into a nickle sized hole in the center of the 50 meter target! Ha! How about that?! Even after all the impressive (to me anyway) things done with combat handgun IDPA type shooting and National Match Highpower, 1,000 yards, that stuck in my mind for a bit.
Russ Miller ... it is great to review your comment (several times) and glad to hear that you are pursuing air gunning ... which has allowed me to pursue this passion almost daily and at a much lower cost that powder guns. I too competed in my younger days ... and provided a great knowledge of what it takes to achieve accuracy. We have a video coming out next week that shares how to improve rifling and how to keep your air gun out of the repair shop. Thanks again for sharing ... Dr. russ
The absolute best video on break barrels in general that I have ever seen!

Will do Doc. I have several firearms and taught pistol for many years. Was shooting a 22 rifle at 9 years old . I had some BB guns and an old BENJAMIN multiple pump pellet rifle in the late 60’s . I’ve become more involved with Air rifles and a couple of Crossman pistols . I think I’ve purchased 6 or 7 in the past year and a half . I’m getting more interested in the Pre charged air guns like the Marauder. I definitely need to thin out my collection with the exception of family heirlooms to pass down . The cost is so expensive for the upper level air guns . I’m reload rifle and pistol ammunition and have really developed a newfound love and respect for the air rifles and ballistics / projectiles as well as the technology . Your lessons are comprehensive and I’ve learned so much in the past week from your lectures . I do enjoy my Walther Parrus. Wooden stock 177. I’ll keep studying and work on staying airgun sharp /
If you have any recommendations for the Marauder or Hatson or other refurbished air guns that are the precharged entry or midrange I’d appreciate your recommendations. Thank you again for the wonderful lessons and intellectual explanations on so many relevant topics . All the best Dr. Russ.

This is one of the most informative air gun videos I have ever seen. I bought a Gamo Swarm Whisper and love the 10 round magazine. With a better scope (which I had on another gun) It is very accurate. It also has the power to take out the squirrels and rabbits around my house. Did a head shot on a rabbit at about 10 yards and it was immediately legs up kicking.
Terry Jackson ...it is good to hear from you and thanks for sharing your experience... we were not pushing the pellets in far enough for the black rubber retention band to fit into the pellet waist ... and thus they were falling out ... Dr. Russ
@@drsrussandpaula Maybe its time to edit your video then? Unless people see your comment they have no way of knowing it was user error not the magazine. It might keep people from purchasing this rifle...just my two cents.

Bought a refurbished Gamo .22 Generation 1 and if I like it okay later I will buy a generation 2 then maybe a 3 if I really like it enough. I appreciate your detailed review, and subscribed to your channel. Wish you the best and appreciate all your tips.
My go to .22 at the moment is an Umarex Targgis Hunter. I love the Precision and the power, I did have to upgrade the scope... I didn't go too crazy, I went with a Hatsan for about $60 but I'm having good results. I personally like having the high over/under scope mount to retain the ability to use the iron sights... to me there is satisfaction with being able to whack something at a distance with open sights.
I have been checking out these Gamos and thinking about pulling the trigger on one because of the 10-round magazine. After watching your video I've decided I'll hold off until the technology gets better and more dependable.
It is good to hear from you Jim Eagle.... I would hold off too ... you have an excellent, accurate air rifle and that is what counts. I am told that Gamo is bringing out a Gen 3 on their Swarm rifles ... and if that is true... we need to learn why .... and we need to see the lowered prices on the Gen 2 rifles.... plus you have some entry level PCP air rifles from Umarex and Air Venturi to look over as well.... stay in touch ... we plan to give away 2 expensive PCP air rifles during the next month... Dr. Russ

Greetings, Dr. Russ; I am very glad to have watched this video, for it is informative and precise. You discuss pros and cons of this series of rifles in a most interesting manner touching upon subjects that instruct the novice and the experienced air-gunner. I, too, since my first Daisy BB rifle when aged but five, coat my pellets and or slugs while in storage in their respective tins: It seems to seal the missiles better in the rifling, therefore improving accuracy and precision, plus allowing better consistency in speed out of the barrels. A cousin of mine, an electric and mechanical engineer by profession, advised me to coat any and all pellets and slugs for protection. Thank you again for sharing your wisdom with us neophytes of this avocation.
Amado Mata... it is good to hear from you ... and thanks for the compliments.... air guns are a little more complex than just reading the outside of a box ... in fact some boxes have nothing printed on them any where ... and some come without manuals in them ... so it is a service I enjoy providing. please keep us in your loop of air gun experiences... helping us help everyone stay air gun safe... sharp ... and silent.... Dr. Russ.
Bought for the Whisper, the scope is not the best, thank you for this very good review.
Thanks for sharing the information about the differences in that series by GAMO 🎯
It is good to hear from you power play 4 real .... please share your own air gun experiences ... helping us help everyone to be safe ... sharp ... and silent... Dr. Russ
A great review,, thanks from dear old England
It is good to hear from you Neil Delaney ... and it is great to hear from our mother country ... especially at a time when she seems to be leading the U. S, in getting Ukraine the weapons she needs. Rumor is that you even have some troops there ... We pray the best for a couple who have been captured by the Russians.... In the end ... Russia might go from an old world order ... from the second best Army in the world ... to a new world order ... where Russia is the second best Army in Ukraine... Thanks for the compliment ... consider clicking onto the small circular photo of me to access our entire channel ... and watch two on Accuracy .... Dr. Russ
Thanks Dr. Russ for this review. I have been wanting to get a gas piston rifle and was tempted to get one of the 10x rifles but I think you helped me decide not to. The biggest drawback to me is the high sight plane compared to the center bore, which makes a huge difference when you're shooting small pests between 10-50 yards. As you stated, the Gen 2 improved it a little, but I would still rather the scope almost touch the barrel or just use open sights. The $40 for a problematic magazine is also a deciding factor. In fact until someone comes up with a better design for a repeater, I think I will stick to single shot.
Good to hear from you k3n c .... a third generation Gamo is coming out in June... the magazine problem we were having was due to not pushing the pellets in far enough for the black retention band to fit into the waist line of the pellet ... thus holding them in... Dr. Russ
I bought a gen 3. No problems at all with the magazine.
I have the new gen 10x and I've had no issues so far
@@wadegreif5073 Mine refused to feed even 1 pellet. I have used air rifles for 40 years, have many Beeman sold springers, RWS and Weirauch gas pistons and my favorite, a mint RWS 75 Olympic Competition rifle.... This Gamo is the worst. Even Chinese POS's will at least put a pellet down the bore. Oh year, all the pins also fall out of the gun when it's on it's side. Really, this gun stinks.
@@MW-bi1pi did you attempt to send it back? that's crazy. I still haven't had any issues.
I love my Gamo rifle, I have the 2st generation and I just move the original scope back, and I took a small piece of tinfoil folding into half paint it black and tape it around the front of the scope, and then you can see the lines good, and made a small green dot on the inside of the scope wall, 1 at center point where the line is, one just above it and 1 below it for windage, and works great
Markolsen1096 ... it is good to hear from you ... and thanks for sharing your scope experience with us... please stay in touch ... we have some interesting videos and new info coming... Dr. Russ
Excellent Review, Thanks for the heads up!

Recently shot one of these and helped clean them. Using a push or pull rod is no issue cleaning the barrels. When broke open the autoloader easily pushes out of the way. I would never recommend a cleaning pellet in a spring piston air rifle. There is not enough back pressure for plunger and could damage the air rifle. This is my opinion.
I agree Fallguy and should have said so in this video.... thanks for the info on the autoloader pushing out of the way.... did not know that either ... though self cleaning cotton pellets clean this barrel easily..... I believe these Gamo Swarm rifles are the only break barrels on the market with 20 inch barrels... which is crucial for accuracy beyond 35 yards.... Please continue to share ... helping us help everyone stay air gun sharp... Dr. Russ
I bought one because it was one sale and looked good, and I love shooting it. I have the Swarm Stinger (with the barrel break at the end) and I love it. It's accurate AF I have had ZERO issues with the auto loader (except finding extra magazines 🙃).
I prefer iron sights to scopes, even red-dot optics (I actually have a red dot as a back-up to my iron sights.
I put a barrel mount on the end of the rifle and at the very BACK of the rifle, which gives me about a 2½ ft space which makes the thing damn accurate! To the point of shooting then having to listen for a hit, for a moment.
DO NOT get GAMO (or any similar "Hollow Point" pellets they go everywhere but where you want them. Very dangerous.
Just bought the .22 magnum for $259 from Midway USA thanks to your excellent, informative video. Thanks.
J D ... I just got one too ... and it is much harder to pump than the other Swarm models... but more powerful too... thanks for the compliment... please keep us in your air gun experiences loop ... Dr. Russ
I learned a lot thanks👍

I have the first one in 22 and it's amazing! Accurate and powerful! Magnum would be the only improvement I need.
Very informative, I have two Gamos in my collection , good air guns tks.
Good to hear from you Kenneth Huff.... I have one but want to add another in 22 magnum wood stock Bone Collector edition. We have since learned from viewers that if you push the pellets into the 10X magazine a little further with a ball point pen, that the rubber retaining band will slip into the waist of pellets ... between the skirt and the head ... and thus won't fall out. We found that this trick works ... and the Gamos are really very accurate break barrels... Dr. Russ
I have the Gen 2 mag on my magnum .22. I agree that it is not perfect, (but it works well. I won't get into my one detail), but I think the 10 shot mag is the biggest advancement of a break barrel gun since the gun was invented. Personally, I would love to see a billet aluminum version. The plastic gun, (that makes it light, under 8lbs with a scope is possible), could use a trick billet part. :)
Old machinist here. Doug in Michigan.
Doug ...it is good to hear from you ... and a fellow Michigander too. Please keep us in your loop of air gun experiences so that you can help us help everyone stay air gun sharp.... I agree with your statement that the 10X multi-shot accessory is the greatest edition since the invention of the break barrel. I believe Benjamin Crosman has also come out with a similar multi-shot version.... and Hatsan too.... so yes it is a remarkable improvement. I have since learned that the mag does not allow pellets to spill out onto the ground, if you take the extra time to seat them well with the black retainer band fitting into the waist line of the pellet.... this often takes a little extra push with a ball point pen ... or at least it does in my Maxxim. A video that was released Friday night shared my goal of getting the 22 mag in the Bone Collectors wood stock version. The video that was released Friday also talks about how to get refurbished air guns from Gamo at about 65% of their retail value and gone over with a fine tooth comb. We also cover Benjamin and Hatsan too. Please stay in our loop.... Dr. Russ
For $299, you can get a very nice 3000 psi PCP with a pump. The Umarex Origin comes to mind. The DAR Gen 2 is also a great option. I didn't forget the Avenger. All of them are several grades above this break barrel rifle. Benjamin Maximus is also a great and cheaper option.
I agree Mouka Faslouka .... Dr. Russ
Good reviews! It was like sitting in a college lecture.
Earl Wallingford ... good to hear from you ... Yes ... I sat in a lot of college lectures myself ... Please share your air gun experiences with us ... helping us help everyone stay air gun sharp... Dr. Russ
That maxima chain wax is awesome stuff on the motorbike. What a great idea putting it on your pellets!
Good to hear from you Dan J .... it works for me.... a good thick oily wax that doesn't roll down the barrel.... nonetheless, consider storing your air gun barrel down for 3 days after shooting with a cloth on the floor.... Dr. Russ
Thank you for review.
