Do not use RTV on your valve covers! I don't know where he got this information from, but it is completely incorrect. RTV does not make your gasket last longer, in fact, pieces of that stuff are prone to breaking off and falling inside of the engine. You can see what it looks like on the outside of the cover, just imagine what the inside looks like.
Hello. Thank you for the video. We changed the valve cover gasket following your video. We only have one problem.. the battery is drained and no throddle after completing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Can you please send the part number for that third valve cover gasket I tried calling and talking to the parts department at my local European supplier you can't find it it's just the left and right side thank you very much
I’m a tech at a MB dealership, just leaving this comment so as a reminder so I can post the actual sequence in which the valve cover bolts need to be torqued. you can claim an even pattern but nothing beats the manual so when you do mess up all I can do is blame it on the instructions
Anon ymous it would seam, that some people, really need to learn about automotive engines before they comment. Allow me to explain...... The spark plug threads into the cylinder. this means the part that sparks is in the combustion chamber. that is the only part of the spark plug that can "foul out". the valve cover has nothing to do with the combustion chamber. if oil gets to the spark plug where it sparks then you have bad rings, bad valve guide seals, or a few other possible issues. none of them include a leaking valve cover.
I apologize for never responding to your question I must have missed it. As for how a leaking valve cover gasket leaks, to my knowledge Anon ymous is exactly right, if you don't believe me simply type into google "how does oil leak into spark plug well from valve cover gasket" and you'll notice that the number one reason for oily spark plugs is valve cover gasket leak.
E36 Fanatics its happening to my ml320 right now mis in cylinder 6. Has 286k on it the gaskets are leaking bad but other then that runs amazing even with the mis.
Thank you so much. This helped tremendously. I own a 02 clk 430 with the EXACT same problem will be fixing soon!

Hi, thank you for the video. What do they call the gasket for the upper smaller cover ? I can’t seem to find those.
Thank you so kindly for the video. I have a CLK 320 2001, it shouldn't be too much different I'm just beginning to smell oil as it falls down
How difficult was the job on the 320?
@Hunky Sonicdude I actually got a friend to do it. Everything seem to be easy to reach.

You didn’t need to remove the spark plugs?

how does a leaking valve cover gasket foul spark plugs?
It can leak down into them.

what's the red/orange outline around the cover? did you have to use any adhesive to hold the gasket in place while installing the cover?
High Temp Silicone Sealer, no you don't have to use it. I just throw it on with the gasket.
Honestly. I rather take his classes.
