    TBH I feel like this specific diet would be a good reset for someone like me. I have a mix of good/bad diet. I eat healthy, I make sure to have vegetables and lean proteins every day and overall balance. But the problem is I also eat junk food. So for someone like me, this was helpful and it inspired to give it a try.

  • @Gmrgrl-mb5np
    @Gmrgrl-mb5np 2 года назад +26

    I can truly attest to this kind of diet. I do very high protein, mod/low fat, low carb. No grains or dairy. I allow a cheat day once or twice a week but I still hit my macros and try to do healthier alternatives (pork rinds instead of salt and vinegar chips and keto ice cream instead of ice cream loaded with sugar) the biggest difference I found was removing sugar and consuming sugar free alternatives. I don’t get the crash anymore. Going on 8 months and lost 40 pounds so far. I’ll be adding exercise here in the next month. Also to anyone dieting, my piece of advice is not look at this as temporary especially with the holidays coming up, instead find alternatives that fit your lifestyle to satisfy the cravings and don’t be discouraged if the substitute doesn’t fit, there are plenty of options out there.

  • @lindamcneil711
    @lindamcneil711 2 года назад +90

    I have been eating keto for years. It isn’t about restricting, it is about the bounty of food you can eat. My focus is no sugar, higher protein, no processed foods. For me, it isn’t about restrictions, it is about choosing healthy foods.

    • @lindamcneil711
      @lindamcneil711 2 года назад +24

      @Vanessa Chérie Is it unnecessary or do you just not understand someone else's choices. The biggest issue with nutrition science and dieticians is that there seems to be this unrealistic thought process that all foods are good and react equally in the mechanics of the body. That if someone doesn't think the way the schools teach nutrition then they must be damaging their body or have an eating disorder. This is furthest from the truth and completely unscientific. A nutritionist should be focused on helping the client eat the foods they choose to eat and helping them meet their nutritional needs, not push toward an unhealthy high carbohydrate diet.
      Whole foods are the focus. Processed foods show damage to the mitochondria and can cause a cascade of hormonal chain reactions that can cause system dysfunction. My focus isn't on "I can't have that"... but on what I can have. What is the better choice from the things I like and won't harm my body (I do have food limits due to physical issues). It is a healthier way to think about food. I have been in the keto realm for years and have never personally dealt with a food disorder from doing keto. Food disorders do exist, but where is the evidence that keto is causing them? In fact, the ketogenic diet is being used to treat people with binge eating disorders as a way of helping them understand and feel food satiation. jeatdisord.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s40337-020-0278-7
      You mentioned bananas. I personally do not eat bananas... there is nothing in them I need. Why eat them if I don't need the nutrition and I am not a fan of them. Avocados have much more nutrients, including potassium than bananas. For multiple reasons, I don't eat bananas, not just the high carbohydrates. There are much healthier foods than a banana. Bananas are high in histamine. I eat a gluten-free, low carb and low histamine response diet.
      Sweet potatoes I am able to eat when I feel like it. These are my "carb up days" when I keep my diet low carb... but don't eliminate my vegetables. In fact, I eat a lot of vegetables on both keto and my carb up days. I stay in ketosis from 0-50 carbs. My carb up I splurge to 70is. I don't really count my carbs anymore -- so I am not exactly sure. I also always have a high fiber diet... higher then most people who eat the standard American diet or SAD.
      So are you saying that eating a diet that is satisfying and meets your nutritional needs and helps keep your body healthier will lead to an eating disorder? I am not sure that would be the case.
      Keto, if done right, isn't about bad carbs good carbs, it is about making healthy choices to not spike the insulin. That is healthy meats, good quality, high fiber nuts, seeds, vegetables, and berries. It is using ferments like kimchi and yogurts. It is a physiological understanding that food intake creates a cascade of mechanistic changes in your body -- some of these changes are benefits and some or not. Catalysm and anabolism is the focus. What is going to build the body up in a healthy way or what is going to tear it down? Am I going to let malformed cells grow and feed them or am I going to work on building cells that are healthy for good organ function and allow the bad cells to die a natural death? Food actually is the chemical mechanism for these reactions. The choice is yours what you put in your mouth, but I choose to eat foods that allow my body to work more optimally.

    I love hot sauce, I put it on almost everything! Depending on where you are, you may not be able to find it, my favorite is Sho Nuff New Orleans hot sauce. It’s the perfect not too hot, no burny aftertaste in the back of your throat, and it’s got a great flavor not just “hot” if that makes sense. I usually buy a bunch in the hot sauce stores in New Orleans when I’m visiting. For something you should probably be able to get in any grocery store, Louisiana hot sauce is a classic. I like the extra hot in that but the regular is good too.

    kayla, keep in mind that those 10 days without carbs and sugar only eliminates the water from the carbs and start to slowly heal the inflammation from the sugar.

    As someone with an autoimmune disorder, I thrive on keto. But I don’t look at food inherently bad or good. But what foods are good for me and what foods cause me inflammations and pain.

    You can use your favorite protein powder to make pancakes. You can make sausage and an avocado for breakfast with grilled tomatoes with seasoning.
    I did my macros and I can't do low carb. My body runs better with carbs. My lowest number is fat, so Keto is a no for me.

    It’s because coffee is counter productive. Want to know how they have the energy to do what they do? Fueling their bodies with things that sustain them, not give them an energy boost for a moment. The healthy ones anyway.
    Coffee often messes with your circadian rhythm which messes with your energy.

    I don't get why elimination diets always have no coffee! I really don't think it's as bad as they make it out to be. If you don't like it then don't drink it, but I personally don't think it's the enemy. Also, Franks is my favorite hot sauce.
