  • Final review on the awful Alfa Romeo.
This is only my opinion, of course you have the right to disagree, just don't turn things into a hate speech, and if you have any suggestions on how to make things easier, they're always welcome

Despite your trials and tribulations with this kit you have produced a splendid model, well done sir. Unfortunately it's kits like this that can take the pleasure out of modelling, and to think when I was a youngster this was my dream kit but I couldn't afford it. That was a blessing in disguise! Keep up the good work and I look forward to your next project. Best wishes Vic.

      Thank you Vic.
This kit is quite a sight to look at, it really is and I understand when people say that these kits are something out of dreams, but for those who actually build it, it's more like a Nightmare; I've even read a story about a specific one that took over 40 years to build and 4 or 5 different modelers to build, I can only understand why...
Nothing against Pocher, I've built others including the 1/4 Ducati Panigale and it is years better than this one

Having built 5 of these Alfa kits back in the 80’s I’d still rather build a Pocher kit than another 1/12 Model Factory Hiro. Great job on this kit sir!!!

Never tried MFH, don't have the pockets for them.
This Alfa looks really good in the end, but it was really a pain to build

Well done and congratulations on not throwing this kit against the wall. I actually purchased this kit years ago, maybe more than thirty? I completely agree with your assessment and frankly was so frustrated I gave the kit away. Pocher at the time were one of the few large scale manufacturers before Japanese kits caught on, or were even available. I recommend this kit to no one!

To be honest, that came across my mind several times, but then I remembered it wasn't mine

Someone told me that eighty to ninety percent of these kits don’t get finished. Now l know why, you did a great job finishing this model despite it’s flaws. There will no other kits like them again.

@@TMModelkits I’m building the Alfa as we speak just completed two wheels. The lacing sequence once you figure it out saves time. I modified mine a little and sanded the plastic inserts to match the size of the rims.

For the price you pay for a Pocher you would think it would fit together better. You did a Fantastic job on yours!!!! Looks Great!!! Nicely Done!!!!

That's exactly one of my thoughts.... If you buy an expensive car, you expect it to be well built, comfortable, with good performance, etc

Great video... I have the Mercedes-Benz 500k can't finish the model because the doors, engine hood and fenders do not line up properly at all.
So the model is just packed away for over 30 years. They are beautiful models but poor quality.

True, I had to change all the building order so I could fit all the parts, and still with lots of headaches

Yes, l brought one second hand and can attest to that. The doors and bonnet needed major rework in order for them to fit properly. I didn’t finish mine and it ended up in the kit boneyard.

I agree with you 100% the Pocher kits terrible. I have built two a Alfa and a Bugatti Their only good point is a well built model like yours are gorgeous. I would suggest that any one building these should purchase Paul Koo's DVD on building the Pocher 1/8 kits. He has several tips to overcome the issues with the kits (like the radiator gap).

Maybe I'm just spoiled by the great engineering of Tamiya kits, but this one was really an unforgettable nightmare.
I've already built the Pocher Ducati Panigale and it came with a DVD with all the workarounds to avoid the problems that the kit has. Is it from the same author? Can't remember exactly, the only thing I remember is that the order is completely different from the kit's original instructions

You make this look easy. I have a variety of 7 of these Pocher kits bought 20+ years ago waiting in my closet for assembly attempt and the time has come. I will start, but may not finish. Was hoping the parts would fit together very precisely since the kits were so expensive. I am not sure I will be able to modify parts as well as you have to force the fit. Before I ruin the model I will stop & pass to someone else with more skill. I hope that other Pochers I have are not all as difficult as this one. I have two Alfa Romeo Spider Touring Gran Sport 1932, one Alfa Romeo 8C-2300 Monza 1931, two Rolls Royce Phantom II Sedanca Coupe 1932, and one 1907 Fiat Grand Prix deFrance. Any suggestion which one would be best to begin on as novice?

Only built 3 so far; the Fiat F-2 (the one you mention), this Alfa and the Ducati Panigale, and even the last one requires lots of modifications and diferent order from the instruction manual to build it properly. My only sugestion is to first try everything before the final assembly, and study the best way to assemble.
Maybe the Fiat is a slightly simpler kit than the others
