Well that symbol is CRK which is the initials of the name of the person who brought it out into the market Mr. C.R.Kesavan (Vaidyer). I am from India and have been using this soap from childhood. Mainly since my dad used to work at the production facility of this soap. I would say that the ingredients stated in the back are indeed used in it and coconut oil causes some dryness on the skin. That's the only bad thing but other than that there are no chemicals being used, its completely natural. I still remember there was a large stone on which various herbs were smashed and then put into a boiler to extract its juices. A very nostalgic bond with this soap. It was once the best sold soap in India but after all those colourful chemical soaps with different fragrances came into the market Chandrika took a back seat. Indeed a soap that's worth for money. They don't provide adequate advertisement and hence people never understand the value.
Thanks for sharing your experience with chandka soap after trying it once I was hooked. Really curious though how this soap leaves my skin feeling like I just left a spa for $2? And I'm somewhat curious as to what's actually in this stuff it's from India.
I have been using this soap since childhood. Love it. The scent is so unique and has never been replicated, but I am surprised that you say it is not drying as for me it does dry out me skin terribly . Not a problem as using lotion fixes it and the benefits of the soap are great. love suing it in hot weather as it is so cleansing and refreshing. Try the Mysore Sandal soap. It is another one with a very unique scent and much less drying on the skin. Mysore sandal soap and Chandrika are, for me, the 2 classic Indian soaps. Nothing can compare to them.
Thanks for the review. I just bought a bar and was looking for some info and you did a good job with providing what I was looking for such as the ingredients as well as historical background. I like the fragrance and I would also say it's pretty strong compared to other soaps but like you say it is natural. I also like that it lathers very well as you said and doesn't dry out your skin. Usually I get dry and itchy skin in the winter and I'm hoping this will prevent it. I just started using it so we'll see but so far, so good.
Wow! So cool to see a Black man reviewing a soap. Very refreshing and your review was so down-to-earth. Just bought this soap at the local grocery store and needed some info. Thanks.
This soap has a unique and wonderful smell. It has a great lather and leaves your skin feeling very clean and fresh. Basically its fantastic and everyone should try it!!
I've been looking for a new natural soap and ran across your video. This was a good in depth review. Your skin looks good, and yummy by the way. I'm trying to help my husband improve his skin and this soap might be the answer. Thanks!
Puritan's pride (online) carries it too. 2.45 oz for 1.19 I came here from there to find reviews. I've seen it at a lot of other places too usually natural health stores, etc. and it's always inexpensive.
This soap is SOOOOOOOOO stink! But it's good soap. I used it for about 3 years and then Wholefoods stopped selling it and when I asked them why they said bc it had some bad stuff in it so they had to stop selling I'm thinking that was false info. Thank you for the review brother.
