This actually applies to “light trucks” in general in regards to being unsafe. We have very dumb regulations around “light trucks” and SUVS. Ban lifted and oversized unsafe mods in general. Be consistent! My guess is something was actually done with this because the people doing this are mostly certain skin pigment.
Ginger Billy will approve of this 😅 I saw one for the first time a few months ago, it was a pickup truck. They ruin the look of the vehicle and make them dangerous. You can't use them for anything practical. The next thing states need to work on are these off road light bars being used when on the highway, and the bright white LED headlights.
Pickup trucks are already more dangerous than other types of vehicles, and are often not used for practical purposes. So what ? Danger through reduced visibility should be measured in some universal way, not via "ban this specific thing".
@@karlkoehler341 they should only make them change the truck itself, and put it the way it was when it came out of the factory. Just like those off road running lights, they are too bright for highway use and they blind people worse than LED headlights even, and they are bad enough. If they start charging people fines for both situations it will end up costing the people out of pocket regardless. So in the end it won't really matter either way, it's going to come down to the person's bottom line and how much they want to pay in fines, etc. They don't put crossing arms at RR crossings unless someone gets killed by a train first. It's sad that it has to come to someone losing their lives to make things better. I guess it also boils down to the character of the people who want to have these types of trucks. If they don't care about causing an accident then they won't care I suppose.
@@karlkoehler341 Your argument seems to be that it's okay for trucks to be modified to be even more dangerous, because they're already more dangerous than cars. Also, that they shouldn't ban obviously dangerous modifications, but should instead make everyone bring their vehicle in for some kind of visibility test, to meet a universal standard. The DOT already has visibility standards. Trucks with this modification don't meet that standard. If you'd really like to push the issue and go for the test, you're gonna find out that a whole lot of lifted vehicles don't meet the standard. Also, most vehicles with aftermarket window tint. The State is going easy on you. All they're saying is that you've hit the douche button too hard and now it's time to dial it back. Don't worry, you can still wear Ed Hardy shirts and rock low profile mud terrains on Chrome 22s, to never take your truck through mud or dirt. Everyone will still know you're a douche. No one can take that from you.
I remember when a squatting rear end meant you had extremely-worn/damaged suspension components, or had overloaded the vehicle's cargo capacity. Now, it's a DESIRED effect? Do the seats not recline far enough for you to stare at the sun as it is?
For all those claiming this is "unconstitutional" or "governmental overreach," I offer these salient points: a) headlights - even low beams and fog lamps - are pointing upwards at an angle too steep to be corrected with headlight aiming adjustments. This affects not only the driver's nighttime visibility, but also blinds oncoming drivers and/or cars unfortunate enough to be in front of them at night, making this a serious safety issue b) as explained in the video, staring up at the sky from the driver's seat restricts visibility in front of them - the engine compartment is blocking normal sight lines c) vehicle's center-of-gravity is shifted to the back, making the front end lighter and susceptible to bumps, which could cause momentary loss of control d) more air is forced below the vehicle than the manufacturer intended, which in some conditions could cause the front end to lift slightly, exacerbating Point C I don't believe in banning the modification completely, with the caveat that it is done properly and safely, and is adjustable - much like hydraulics or air bags, where the vehicle can be restored to a street-legal position while operating on roadways. This way it can be used for show - after all, that seems to be the point of it - without being a menace to other drivers on the streets. Driving is a privilege, not a right. You are required to carry insurance in most, if not all, jurisdictions, to protect OTHERS. You are required to follow traffic laws to protect OTHERS. You are driving a 2,000-lb metal can on wheels, which can easily kill or maim all life forms and destroy personal property. Personal responsibility is often legislated when morality fails; this is not the first, nor will it be the last, example of such.
@@dashcamandy2242 there is a simple pair of cures for this ; first , if you must be this outrageous with your vehicle , it is now considered to be for off highway use only . If you want to take it to a show , that's fine but you must trailer it to and from the show . Or second ; there can be no more than a three inch difference in height from front to rear ends of the vehicle .
I remember seeing cars like this even in the 50s(photos of my dads car) and I’ve always thought it was just plain stupid. The only thing stupider is to go out and drive it fast on the road when you can’t see over the hood.
Those were called gassers. And they were only about 2-3” nose high. It was for weight transfer and to fit a larger motor under the stock hood by lowering the engine resulting in the need for a so,I’d axle suspension.
I always thought the 50’s “sandbagged” look was just a lowering of the rear only and not a raising of the front. They looked like the trunk was full of sand bags. That would point the headlights up, but not like the squat.
@@dodgeguyz those weren't gassers , those were taildraggers, there was a massive difference. The gassers jacked up the front ends by a foot or more . The taildraggers used a torch to heat up the rear springs until the suspension sagged by three or four inches . I had a '55 Chevy with a straight axle and it was not only hard to see over the hood it also was an ill handling p.o.s. on the road. I dropped it back down so it could be driven and enjoyed.
Thank God! We banned this in NC some time ago. Maybe we'll get a country-wide ban on stupid mods at some point. Also, I've been preaching what that mechanic said since I saw the first one. Doing this only destroys your ride.
They also need to go back to the days when you couldn't have tires that stick out from the fenders. It's too easy to throw rocks at trailing vehicles when the tires stick out like that.
Are you still doing that?? That's kind of neckish ain't it? Come on man, this ain't no Hyperbole, Just stop. Does your truck sound like dddddddddddddddddddddddddd when you drive down the road???
And while we are at it limit how loud a car stereo can be. I don't care if you want to deafen yourself, but if I'm doing 75 with the windows rolled up and I can hear your radio it's TOO DAMN LOUD. If I'm sitting in my house watching TV or listening to music and I hear you coming a block away it's TOO DAMN LOUD.

Make them change it and bring it to court fixed right In Irmo SC u can be pulled over and ticked for window tint even with a vehicle registered in another state, where that level of tint is legal! But either way they make you bring your vehicle to court in South Carolina and sure that you have removed it if that is legal, this is what should be happening for these
They are called Rear Low-jacks in South Dakota. Most like this in South Dakota are ones I have seen that can manually go like this while driving with buttons on the car as they would not work in winter or on really bad roads that are more like dirt trails however no duel tires on the back and they look like they will rust out at any moment, at least preserved to stay the way they found it with a clear coat over the car. Really popular on the old style of Chevy Suburban that is pre 1994 and older and if not Ford Bronco II in the longer back body model. Some of the Chevy Suburban's of the late 1970's to 1980's do this anyhow so they just remove a little bit of spring in the back to ride more like this though not as low as the Carolina Squat. There is also a term of High-jacking a Truck out there where they put the biggest tires on the same size rim the car they can find and raise the suspension and often straight-pipe the exhaust to go up like smoke stacks selling the catalytic converter in the back end for the metals inside them, most often done with the most modern Ford Ranger with the fender look or the Toyota Tacoma in the fender type body styles but some smaller Chevey Blazers of the 1990's and 2000's in the right body as well as older Ford Bronco II get this too as well as the old Dakota Sports pickup style. I raerly see this High-jacking on Doge Durango or similar sized vehicles with fenders but always the ones with small beds or small back and fenders.
Just another version of low rider community. Have not seen them on the west coast driving like that. Probably start showing up during side shows and street takeovers which will make the meet ups even more dangerous.
God Bless Henry McMaster.....this "squat" is wrong at SO many levels. 1.) Aerodynamic....more air gets undder the car promoting lift. Just what you DON'T want. 2.) Lighting....these idiots don't realize they need to re-align the headlights lower when doing this. Even on low beam....it's "in your face"....doesn't matter if this vehicle is behind you, following you.....or when they approach you from the oncoming lane. It's like looking into high beams. 3. ) Put a load in the bed and the rear drops even lower....making 1.) and 2.) worse., and maybe even making it more probable to lose your load. 4,) Affects vehicle dynamics in a negative way....cornering...braking. And just in case these aren't enough.....it telegraphs just how stupid you are doing this, as it improves absolutely NOTHING...but makes ALMOST everything else how your truck works.... WORSE. The only good thing is more suspension travel when you race over desert dunes and come down front-first on the other side.....where this fad started was West coast desert races...but there's nothing like this in SC. Also shows the total lack of individualism and critical-thinking.... by those doing it, as it only copies what other young idiots are doing.

Here's the option for them, Option One: unsquat the truck back to stock or get rid of it. Option Two: If they refuse unsquat back to stock or get rid of the parts for installing squat trucks, we shall tow the vehicle and take to the scrapyard so we can destroy squatted trucks.

I saw one for the first time a few months ago, it was a pickup truck.
So what ? Danger through reduced visibility should be measured in some universal way, not via "ban this specific thing".
right Ginger Billy is a South Carolina boy🤣🤣🤣
For all those claiming this is "unconstitutional" or "governmental overreach," I offer these salient points:
a) headlights - even low beams and fog lamps - are pointing upwards at an angle too steep to be corrected with headlight aiming adjustments. This affects not only the driver's nighttime visibility, but also blinds oncoming drivers and/or cars unfortunate enough to be in front of them at night, making this a serious safety issue
b) as explained in the video, staring up at the sky from the driver's seat restricts visibility in front of them - the engine compartment is blocking normal sight lines
c) vehicle's center-of-gravity is shifted to the back, making the front end lighter and susceptible to bumps, which could cause momentary loss of control
d) more air is forced below the vehicle than the manufacturer intended, which in some conditions could cause the front end to lift slightly, exacerbating Point C
I don't believe in banning the modification completely, with the caveat that it is done properly and safely, and is adjustable - much like hydraulics or air bags, where the vehicle can be restored to a street-legal position while operating on roadways.

@@dodgeguyz those weren't gassers , those were taildraggers, there was a massive difference. The gassers jacked up the front ends by a foot or more . They grow'em pretty stupid in South Carolina, lol.
You must have voted for LGBTQ-FJB 😂
It's popular throughout the entire south. Yes, they grow them stupid there.
Those fines are not enough. They should be seizing the squatters on the second offense.
We need this in Florida.
Just bring back vehicle inspections - but this time make them every other year or something.
The problem is they will fix it for the inspection.
Bring the ban to Tennessee too please.
