In karls defence, the story at 58 minutes that he refers to regarding his nerves being too short for his body is in reference to a genuine physiotherapy test called a straight leg raise, to determine restricted neurodynamics. Suggesting his nerves are too short isn't completely correct, its more that they aren't gliding in a correct manner when his leg is passively moved. Its nothing to do with his tendons as ricky seems to think. A straight leg raise test would confirm karls 'sciatica' is neuropathic and not simple lower back pain. I use this test every single day as a physio.

Karl has a conception of technology, that David Krakauer calls "competitive" cognitive artifacts in contrast to "complementary" ones. The former "compete" with regular (procedural) knowledge of our brain. So while acquiring and learning to use a technology can make you more effective in solving a specific problem, you are becoming more dependent on them as well and possibly lose/forget some of the capabilities that you had before to solve the same problem. Unfortunately complementary cognitive artifacts which expand your existing cognitive abilities rather than replacing them seem to be quite rare... So that's the wordy, theoretical version of what Karl knows intuitively.
Exactly. For example my spelling is worse now than it was when I was in highschool and this is due to spell check and autocorrect doing all the work for me now. I never have to think and work out spellings for myself. When I was young all my work was hand written and I made fewer grammatical or spelling errors than I would hand writing today. Because I'm so used to the work all being done for me now. Those parts of my brain aren't being used anymore. It's exactly the same if you have Google inside your head. You'll never have to think and work out a problem for yourself just see the solution flash before your eyes. Your own ability to think will diminish.

+BFKC it’s not being dense, it’s simply that despite him not being particularly articulate or book smart. He does often have a common sense about what he says that Ricky can’t always get his head around. Obviously most of the things he says sound ridiculous coming out of his mouth but can still be heavily related to on a human level. Also there are other times when Ricky takes the logical approach to far by saying something’s ridiculous, when years into the future turns out Karl has predicted something that actually happened. Just as one example look at when Ricky was asking Karl about his movie pitches and then keeps going on about everything he says being stupid and illogical without himself grasping the concept that movies are usually meant to be exactly that. That’s just one example of dozens.

Was this 2010 when he predicted VR glasses? And they're falling out laughing. VR glasses and helmets were in Marvel comics at least a decade (or 2) before whatever year this was and I never thought it would be a real thing. Karl conceptualize the whole thing there with no prior frame of reference. Knocked it out of the park. Reminds me of Michael Keaton's character in Ron Howard's Night Shift; an "Idea Man". He who laughs last, laughs best.
That's so fucking stupid, it shows again what suck-ups you are. It was well-known for a looong time, arguably even more well-known than it is now... (Becoming less trendy.) He probably picked it up in a magazine or so, in any case MANY people knew of it... You fucking dumbass.
Thanks, I appreciate it! Well there's 13 episodes per season, so I split each season into 2 parts (6 episodes in one, 7 in another). Since this was Part 4, this was the second part of season 2, so there was 7 episodes with a total runtime of about 3 hours to cut down to 1 hour 45 minutes...so it takes about a day to cut it down that much, but that might just be because I have trouble deciding which bits are really the best bits - Karl is hard to condense.
Watching this you realise that Karl is extremely attentive and present in his life, always looking out for things he finds interesting- taking in the world around him. He’s like a monk or summ

Like Ricky ive always been more attracted to the stranger characters you meet from school and in jobs and neighbours , people you find yourself having to share time with you wouldnt normaly can end up being the most memorable
I love how people say Karl predicted virtual reality - you are all aware that the concept of VR is at least a few decades old? Other than that, Karl is a genius.
there's VR where you put a headset on and see something projected on a screen, and there's AR, augmented reality, where you see reality AND an image projected on top of that, either on top of something clear or on top of a display from a camera. THAT is a much newer thing, and Karl predicted the hell out of it a few people did. someone doug tennapel was talking to once said he thought of that for Disney, as it would help them save on redecorating it all.

Man, you have no idea. I just got done having a long arduous discussion with a buddy of mine who has the same thought process of Karl. I now feel for Ricky and Steve.
+Iglian 345 Dear god, you have our prayers.

You have to be joking man.....!!
There cannot be two souls on this Earth akin to Pilkington surely....?
Happy new year to you..!!
That moment when black mirror play all of Carl’s ideas 15 years later
With AR (Augmented Reality) not that far away, I am quite impressed that Karl predicted it, while both Steve and Ricky tossed it away like an idiotic thing to even think. :)
It's like the Cassandra Complex, but instead of seeing the future and no one believing it, Karl can see it but can't articulate it.
😅
I love how smug Rick and Steve are with "scrimptun" at 32:50!
Boswollox
Karl: I think trousers are going to stop being made!
I love this, so much!
He's right as ever 😂
Everything about this is brilliant.
I watch these before I go to sleep :3 Thank you for posting ♥️
Karl is funny but ricky pissin himself in the background kills me everytime.
There are times when Ricky sounds more ignorant than Karl.
David Wood many times, and it's much worse because Ricky thinks himself a genius. Sounds like a pretentious drip.
Karl has a certain "innocence" to him that I think allows him to get away with saying some of the more dafter things he says. Not so much with Ricky
No
Those are the times you are too dense yourself.
Karl empathizing with the slug
Ricky's laugh is nature's anti-depressant 😂
💞Hi Sarah, I love Ricky Gervais' laugh sooo much! I would marry him just to hear him laughing everyday! He really does cheer me up too! Sending you love from Paris, Pia Paradis💞
Yeah I agree his laugh is contagious and has me in tears too just listening,I love his immaturity and constant torment of Karl ,as old as these podcasts are they're brilliant.
It sounds like a chimp attacking someone's face.
When he reaches his highest pitch and screams IM GOING TO DIE, I love that so much
Ricky's unbelievably loud laugh makes listening to this on headphones a nightmare!
The whistleling made me cry
“There’s a time and place to be lost”
Pretty deep
I'm not trying to be rude but I always fall asleep to this show but I find it hilarious. I dont know why it makes me sleep
It’s the inane ramblings, porridge for the brain; but still humorous….like meditation.
I like how Karl always goes back to the frisbee as if it was a recent invention, it was invented back in the mid-late 1800s. Also it was invented by university students, so technically there were top minds working on it
Right?! Weren't they tossing Frisbee brand pie tins about?
I feel asleep watching two of these and i didnt know til these morning, im glad i discovered this
It's tinging it's way up the tube!
Kudos to you man! With your uploads it's like holidays: they don't come that often, but are worth every second waiting for it and then over again way too fast. ;) Really awesome Job dude, keep it up!
Karl basically describes VR and AR in #4. Emojis are are being added to keyboards like letters. So he’s right on #5 too.
I’m cool with no pants too ; )
Ricky laughing at 1.40.00 ish. Bret. Laughs like a hyena and floors me again. Great upload this one.😉
It’s a crime that these illustrations are being used for a few seconds and will never be seen again
The problem hole analogy has me howling but is so spot on
I love Karl just building the animal he wants to be and live adapting it to survive every situation
Okay, so i'm a huge fan of this videos and I appreciate your work a lot!! I listen too one of them every night when I go to bed and I know them all inside out!! so when is part five comming?? I'm hungering for some new Karl Pilkington material!! :D
Karl predicting augmented reality and Ricky shooting it down is hilarious
Clever the way they added the animation after they started with the podcasts... evolution is a wonderful thing
That's not how evolution works
I have returned. Part 5. Soon.
It’s supposed to be relaxing,
But Karl is 100% correct in all his takes and Ricky/Steven, the rich bubble Londoners just laugh at him.
17:00. Karl has a point; I'm watching this on my phone and my little finger isn't helping out.
Karl Pilkington predicts virtual reality.
"Absolutely mental, it would never work" - Ricky
(although he really predicted *augmented* reality)
OmikronGT That's only cos he sucks at explaining
Well, Ricky was right, stuff like Google Glass did fall flat on it's ass
Nathan Saunders no
That's so fucking stupid, it shows again what suck-ups you are. It was well-known for a looong time, arguably even more well-known than it is now... (Becoming less trendy.) He probably picked it up in a magazine or so, in any case MANY people knew of it... You fucking dumbass.
This is pure gold❤
love when ricky laughs and swears
love these videos mate
Fucking hell! I'm exhausted, my abdomen hurts because of constant laughter. But I can't stop.
Just the tone of Karl’s voice just makes me laugh
Manc twat…Karl’s voice that is.
43:25 the threatening owl-slug is killing me xD 🤣
It was such a good decision to subscribe to you. These compilations are really fucking awesome. How long do these take to make?
Thanks, I appreciate it! Well there's 13 episodes per season, so I split each season into 2 parts (6 episodes in one, 7 in another). Since this was Part 4, this was the second part of season 2, so there was 7 episodes with a total runtime of about 3 hours to cut down to 1 hour 45 minutes...so it takes about a day to cut it down that much, but that might just be because I have trouble deciding which bits are really the best bits - Karl is hard to condense.
in the US we call "professional leg rubbers" a masseuse or a physical therapist. theyre pretty popular. maybe thats what karl was talking about?
I'm 99% sure that's what he meant. Either he has a bad memory or they're not popular in the UK.
Watching this you realise that Karl is extremely attentive and present in his life, always looking out for things he finds interesting- taking in the world around him. He’s like a monk or summ
"if the flat's a mess, it's a mess twice" love that line
Anyone falling asleep to this
It’s so good to settle off to. And repeat listens
Personally I can’t simply because I end up cracking up and chuckling.😂
Karl is Britain's greatest treasure
24:39
oh god, how is face is animated so perfectly
Karl is the perfect example of: the less you know the more you think you know
Man, they have to get Karl on QI! And the thing about VR glasses is actually a good one. If Charlie Brooker came up with it, it would have made a good Black Mirror episode. And his ideas about the flotation tank were bang on.
Black mirror took one of Karl's ideas and made it into an episode. The museum episode. Two ideas from his films are part of the plot twist.
"Part 4 of 6" 4 years later still no part 6 or even 5
I lost it at the onefaced man
Yesssss! Keep up the great videos!
oq
Your animations are honestly amazing! I watched the 4 parts in one stretch. Thanks a lot, keep on making them :D
Nationalmuse The animations were made by HBO, not the uploader.
Nationalmuse he just puts together the best bits from the show, it's 'The Ricky Gervais Show'
Bret Pilkington is so underrated , maybe you have to be English to get it because of the world he lives in . Like Ricky ive always been more attracted to the stranger characters you meet from school and in jobs and neighbours , people you find yourself having to share time with you wouldnt normaly can end up being the most memorable
did karl predict pokemon go
I love how people say Karl predicted virtual reality - you are all aware that the concept of VR is at least a few decades old? Other than that, Karl is a genius.
there's VR where you put a headset on and see something projected on a screen,
and there's AR, augmented reality, where you see reality AND an image projected on top of that, either on top of something clear or on top of a display from a camera. THAT is a much newer thing, and Karl predicted the hell out of it
a few people did. someone doug tennapel was talking to once said he thought of that for Disney, as it would help them save on redecorating it all.
What Karl is talking about is Augmented Reality.
I love the TIC TAC incident story!
Counting backwards from makes sense. You can keep adding more time counting upwards. Sometimes Karl is spot on.
Why’s everyone complaining about the audio. Seems fine to me
SmellsLikeKet bit quiet
Me too - no problem. Ricky’s laugh is as loud as usual.
The Clockwork Orange gang of insects hahahahahah
