    The devs can make it less laggy by doing 1 thing; USING SERVERS INSTEAD OF PEER-TO-PEER CONECTION, which is the main source of all lag in this game

      It's not JUST P2P, P2P is mostly fine when it's done correctly. It's the fact that S3 has a tick rate of 16 and poor netcode. S1 was miles better because it had a tick rate of 25 and good netcode. Even if Nintendo used servers the game would still have the 16tps and poor netcode.

      Yes, sever connection would largely fix lag but I think chase is correct in saying it’s not in the devs control. Nintendo has set the precedent that they don’t run servers for their multiplayer games. That’s not something a splatoon developer is gonna convince higher-ups to change.

      If they would just...
      a. Ensure that the chosen host for each round has a GOOD connection to most of the other players.
      b. MAKE THE BRELLA SHIELD PRIORITY BETTER
      ...then peer-to-peer wouldn't be so bad.

    I feel like ive never had a problem with Kraken Royale in this game, honestly. The thing about Kraken is that it doesnt paint well, so it needs to get kills in order to earn its value, so simply denying it that chance is usually enough to get an advantage. You said thats its lame to run away from the Kraken, but honestly, most weapons can easily outrun a Kraken, or just jump out to prevent dying to it.
    The one exception being slow weapons like Range Blaster or Dynamo Roller, which could struggle against it. But even with that, there are so many specials that hard counter slow weapons, that Kraken isnt even in my top 5 specials that annoy me.
    I think that we should look into nerfing Trizooka and all the other specials that are actually a problem before we think of giving this C-D tier special any more nerfs.

      @@Fenyx_Birb I would love to see some specials from Splat 1 or 2 that broke the game in those games in mp, but were great in Salmon Run return as only Salmon Run exclusive specials.
      Bomb Rush/Launcher and Sting ray come to mind for Salmon Run Exclusive specials
      I also think Tenta Missles, Trizooka, and Ultra Stamp would be amazing specials in Salmon Run aswell.

    The only time i ever felt stupid cheese from Kraken was in rainmaker overtime where the enemy team was about to pop the shield and grab it to win, i pulled up Kraken, waited for them to pop the shield, dash forward with Kraken, grab the rainmaker and get the last points we needed to win

      Or, alternatively, you couldve just charged with the Rainmakersh to prop the shields with enough damage, unless u didnt do enough, but regardless u wouldve been able to move around and grab the Rainmaker sooner lol.

    I can definitely agree on the lag and invincibility being huge problems, especially when it allows it to easily cheese objectives. But also... it's not even on the strong half of specials right now. With good positioning, a Kraken will likely only have one player to deal with, and it's forced to deal with a vulnerable endlag once it's over. It's a very all or nothing special, so rather than straight up nerfs, I think it could benefit from some rework changes.
    Give it HP at all times, even while charging an attack, so that you can at least try to end the special early. But also let it superjump and have gear stack with it like in Splatoon 1. Then I think it would be in a fine spot.
    Definitely fix the lag, tho, because I've dealt with that too many times to count.

      I disagree, the special is fine as is, maybe it needs a few buffs, but keep it gear-independent, its just such a good change from S1.

      @@Chase247Yeah but uve blamed kraken for it, instead of the games horrible netcodesh and tickrates, also, Splatoon 1s Kraken worked fine, if it caused problems it wouldve done so even in S1 too, unless it was re-coded from scratch, which they probably did anyways, but regardless its not Kraken, its the low tickrate and horrible netcode like another comments replyier said.

    I've never had an issue with Kraken. This is the first time I've ever heard anyone complain about it outside of clam blitz cheese. The lag is out of our control (and potentially the dev's) and doesn't just affect Kraken. The rainmaker cheese is also super niche and can be stopped by other specials. Finally, the specials that can cheese tower can also be used from safe positions due to their range.

      In top level play kraken is complained about a lot, even after the clams nerf.
      The lag is out of our control, but kraken benefits from it more than most other specials do.
      The difference between kraken and the other specials for tower control is you NEED to position in order to use them safely... with Kraken you don't. And don't forget that long ranged weapons like eliter and hydra exist

      Its not out of the devs, the kraken lag is so bad because of the games horrible netcode and low tickrate, S1 actually had decent netcode, which was honestly surprising for a nintendo game at the time lol.

    First of all, it's so cool to watch the editing get better and better over time! I mean, it was soooo smooth...
    Honestly I mostly agree except with the swim speed move nerf discussed in the video. I thought this buff was good because it encourages not only relying on the charge mode as people were before. Overall though Kraken is one of my favorite specials to use just because its so satisfying if you can do it right, and honestly I'm fine with special unless it's an instant win button.
    My suggestion to solve the issue is to increase knockback from other weapons into the kraken, duration and startup lag but only during overtime, to give it some counterplay in RM and TC. Just my thoughts... great videos as always!!!

      That's fair with what you said about the buff, but it does also make escaping the Kraken even harder, which is something that I think needs to be made easier slightly.

      @@squiddu well it's a combination of them. If the servers/lag were better I'm sure the swim speed would be fine, but since we're in a state where that would probably never be fixed, we need to compensate in other ways

      like escaping them just barely so that you punish them after the end lag wouldnt be as satisfying if it was easier
      kinda like triple splashdown, the cancelling now is way harder but it feels more satisfying

    I haven’t really had the problem with kraken lag, no seriously, sure I’ve had some lag when facing kraken, but not to the point where I’m splatted 10-20 feet from the kraken as depicted in the video, I’m usually splatted by a laggy kraken when I’m 3 feet away from it.
    I also have done the tower cheese thing INSTANTLY after its tower nerf as I lined up PERFECTLY with the middle of the tower and the ink projectiles coming towards me.
    But with both of those things being said, I feel like Nintendo actually needs to take a look at some streams and other matches when making buffs/nerfs in BOTH regions and patch it as a whole.
    (And they STILL HAVENT NERFED ZOOKA)

      The lag problem is entirely about the network status of the people in the lobby. Your internet may be fine, but if someone else in the room is super laggy, especially the host, which you're gonna see from time to time particularly in Solo-Queue, it's going to happen. I've personally not experienced this specifically myself, but I do not grind Solo-Queue much.

      @@QuargosYeah exactly, add badly and horrible netcode along with andzszh badly low tickrate (some1sh said that 3 has like 16, while S1 had 25, lmao) and uve got a recipe for disaster, its hardly a Kraken-only andzszh / orekrtrdzszherdzszh relevantdzszherdzszh issue.

    I’m gonna have to disagree on this. Kraken has extremely bad downsides that makes it mid at best.
    1. It has really bad start up and end vulnerable frames. It makes using it in a pinch way more difficult than the S1 version.
    2. Those frames count towards your special duration. It’s already hard to make a play off Kraken without stacking SPU but running vanilla makes the special less useful, you also have to secure yourself for the end which means less frames to make a play.
    3. That’s a full 8s you’re not using your main weapon, that you’re not applying turf pressure.
    4. Cooled off players can just outswim it.
    5. You can jump out of a chase easily.
    This special isn’t good, and the nerfs you propose would literally kill the special entirely. Invincibility isn’t the end all be all of a great special.

      All I'll say is that there's a reason top players still complain about this special frequently.
      Everything you said is true, but all of that tends to get outweighed by a lot of the points that I made in the video. I agree that the special isn't top tier, never said it was, and I think that's mainly due to the lack of paint. But for certain modes, especially TC currently, the special is still extremely dumb and just kind of ruins the game
      Also, a special that forces someone to jump out doesnt seem balanced to me. If you have cooler sure it's not much of an issue but youre not always gonna have a cooler. Something that forces one (if not more) members of a team to jump out is EXTREMELY powerful.

    I think they should have just not brought Kraken back. It's the ONLY special that lets you be FULLY invincible unlike Reefslider or Ultra Stamp which are invincible* under certain conditions which takes away from those two (mainly Ultra Stamp's reason to exist as Aggro Rush Down Specials and probably is a reason why they haven't done anything to help Stamp and Reef keep up with the rest of the specials) along with taking out both Kraken-taming and letting it move nearly the same as you as a way to counter it

      It’s so annoying when you can’t do anything because it’s physically impossible to end the special early. If you kill three and the last one uses kraken you’re not able to move up as they will just kill you.

    I’ve never been a fan of any special that gives you invincibility.
    Another thing is that at least in S1, we had bubbler, another invincibility special, to counter kraken. There is no special in S3 that protects you against Kraken.

    honestly I don’t really have a problem with kraken, enemy
    team pops a special which gives them an advantage and you run from it which speeds up pacing, its pretty simple but I don’t really have a problem with it but its annoying when it stalls objectives like tower, running from it is pretty okay counter play and it doesn’t really bother me but I’d still love to see it reworked to be more interactive

    People are talking about this as if "LAG" is separate from what the game is supposed to be, but at this point I've started thinking of "LAG" as a feature. It's a part of the game just like tenta brella is part of the game. If lag is the only reason kraken is a problem, that still means that KRAKEN is the problem. Splatoon 3 is a laggy game. Its specials, weapons and subs need to be designed around that, no matter how much we all wish that the game actually functioned even halfway properly.

    I was talking about this once, but invincibility and infinite range specials shouldnt be in the game as a concept. Thats why i hate kraken royale, wow i have big squid coming in my direction and i have no counterplay other than going in the opposite direction wow this is so fun!!!

    Well, the patch where they increased Kraken swim speed, they said in the notes that they did it specifically to give players more use options outside of just spamming charged attacks
    It got that buff when kraken was kinda week cuz the specials it was supposed to counter started falling off due to cooler-zooka meta, And it had trouble keeping up with faster players
    It’s kinda crazy cuz at the time I remember chara suggesting that all kraken needed was a swim speed buff and that’s exactly what happened, lol.
    Anyway I don’t honk I’ve seen any other comp players complain about kraken or say it’s overtuned? I almost always see them put it in the middle or lower middle part of tierlists.
    But no yea the lag of the charged slash is actually infuriating

    I agree with Kraken is really good due to the lag and the fact a person is controlling it, but I'd argue a) the other cheese for Kraken isnt as bad because there are so many things that have similar issues (not that those aren't also problems, but that if we're going to have cheese then it doesn't matter as much), and more importantly b) blaming Kraken for lag issues is ignoring the fact that lag is a problem for the game as a whole. The rollback for kraken is bad, yes, but it also majorly affects ultra stamp, sometimes booyah, trislosher, blobbler, all blasters, chargers, so on and so forth. The netcode is so loose that it makes dying feel even worse than it really is, and pointing to kraken and saying that it's one of the special's issues when it's a problem with the game sounds counterproductive

      The difference though is that all of the other examples of lag that you listed are more predictable and can be compensated for more easily. Due to krakens ability to quickly change direction and make fast turns, along with its gigantic hitbox, make it more unbearable than any of the other things that you listed in my opinion

    Personally, I haven't had many issues at all with kraken, especially relating to lag. If there was any special I'd say benefits a lot from lag, it's be ultra stamp with it's insanely huge hitboxes that are much more likely to punish you for not reacting a full second in advance (and I'd still never say we should nerf it for that). I think kiting a kraken is actually pretty fun, it's like this cat and mouse chase that really puts your movement ability to the test in a way other specials don't. Do it well enough and you completely waste their special, or even turn the tables and punish their endlag if they get too greedy. Kraken's unique movement makes this way more interesting than it was in splatoon 1, back then kraken was way too agile to outmaneuver, you ether shot it back for free, hid away or died because your weapon was too slow.
    The one change I would like to see is that I think kraken should be able to do huge knockback to enemy krakens. I think that would be really funny if a skilled kraken user was able to use it defensively to keep an enemy kraken off the objective, or potentially even knock them out the map smash bros style.

    I completely disagree with your point about Kraken vs Baller. Kraken is both way more iconic than Baller and fits better thematically - in a game where you play as humanoid squids and octopi, transforming into a Kraken is way more thematically cohesive than... a giant hamster ball.

    I think the best things that could be done to fix Kraken (outside of an entire net code redesign) is to do the following:
    - Give the charge attack more lag at the end to make it more committal
    - Make bullets deal more knockback to the charge attack (both when charging and launching)
    - And shrink it's hitboxes a little bit
    I don't think the speed increase should be reverted as you could very easily run away from it before, and you had a hard time getting in if you didn't have a third of your gear committed to SPU.

    something missed between the two versions of the kracken, in ONE, you could squid jump as kracken and kill anyone whos camping your jump for free without any warning ( think splashdown mini without the telegraph of it), in 3, you CANNOT which would be useful to safely go deep in danger and jump out before its laggy vulln frames when it runs out hits

    The main problem is that you can change direction mid charge. If you were locked into the direction you were going when you started the charge kraken would be so much less annoying because you could actually bait/avoid it.

    I'm not a competitive player, however, an actuve Splatoon player since release day of the OG on Wii U. I was really happy to see the Kraken return in 3 because I thought it might never come back after 2's absence but I had no clue that it was so unbalanced. I'm not in the meta really since I have many other things to do in life but I do play my fair share of Splatoon 3, like, I am close to 400 hours even though I'm working full time and have other stuff going on so I wouldn't count myself as a casual but yeah it does seem like Kraken is even more overpowered than it was in Splatoon 1. How? I thought they fixed the returning specials that were broken in 1 or altered them in a way that they are now vastly different.

    I agree that the lag is a problem, and that it does need some slight tower nerfs. However, the netcode does make this much worse, and that is the only problem I really have with kraken. Otherwise, I see it as a special that is pretty fun to use and good for the game, as using it does require skill and lots of awareness, and so does avoiding it, making for lots of skill expression. ALSO, after the heavenly clam blitz cheese fix, it isn't even that GOOD, which is my problem with you saying that they should just straight up NERF it more. They should just REBALANCE it, like, for example, smaller hitbox and bullets push back the charge attack, but its charge attack is larger otherwise and it can do squid rolls to get places fast and other stuff. I want kraken BUFFED even, as it's skill expression and fun usage could be very good for the game if they just REBALANCED the charge attack and hitbox, (and even fixed the net code, though this probably isn't possible).
    That's my real problem with you complaning about this. In my opinion, kraken should most CERTAINLY not be nerfed. My man, would you rather have a special that is only annoying to some people and is not too good in the game, or a OP CHARGER that is in 25% of team comps and oppressed bacically every other backline? This kraken thing is not a priority that the devs should be taking, after clam cheese was fixed. Splatoon has MUCH bigger problems and asking them to focus on kraken draws attention away from other, more oppressive weapons, and the map reworks.

    Kraken is an ok special to have in the game just make bullets push back the charge mode and decrease its duration and make it do way less damage to the rainmaker shield and then the special will be ok I just REALLY want kraken in splatoon 4 and make other specials pierce the invincibility of kraken

    I have an issue with it, but the same way I have an issue with other very good specials. I also love the design of Kraken. It's so cool. I don't agree that a rework of Baller is what we should have gotten at all.

    Btw you can use kraken cheese to clutch the Ultra signal in tri color turfwar. Just jump in kraken mode while your teammate is getting the signal charged

    I personally think that a special as distracting and deadly as Kraken Royale should be more punishable. It does have some downsides:
    1. It takes a couple of seconds to start up.
    2. When the special ends, you are vulnerable for a couple of seconds, so you may not want to overextend.
    3. A lot of the weapons with Kraken Royale are backline weapons so it can be awkward to pop out Kraken Royale if you already have a lot of map control with your Main Weapon and don't want to trade that off (this situation was very common for me when I used the Bloblobber Deco).
    However, I don't find it fun having to evade an invincible Kraken that I can't fight back against or interact with in any interesting way. Having to either evade it, hide from it (and possibly get found out anyway because of its large hitbox) or take an alternate route if I'm playing with a frontline weapon (which can be very telegraphed easily punished by the rest of the Kraken's team) just isn't good Special Weapon design in my opinion.
    I agree with you when you said that Baller was a better designed Special. It being possible to repel and break made it a lot more satisfying to play against and it was also fun being able to explode with it as its climax (although it was pretty stupid in its own way Clam Blitz). The special did become a little weak and was argubly more of a survival Special but it was a much better idea Splatoon 2 than Kraken Royale is in this game. I would have much rathered the Baller return in this game than Kraken Royale in this game.

    What if shooting a kraken while it was charging shortened the dash, or deflected it to the left or the right. (But that would be a bit hard to predict with everything shooting at it)
    Another counter could be bombs knocking it into the air, canceling the charge and forcing it to land before doing anything. Or bombs could give the short "headbonk" animation that happens when you swim and hit somthing on top of a wall.

    Naturally, the netcode is the biggest issue rn, but in my opinion, the special needs something done for the Tower and Rainmaker cheeses and nerfing its unpredictability while also buffing it to be viable despite those becoming unviable.
    In my opinion, increasing the surge charge time but increasing the damage would improve its combos and object damage while making it easier to juke. Then make it last longer so that you stay invincible and imposing longer, but also have a longer period of time where you are locked out of your main weapon.
    To prevent cheese, I have a very fun idea. Make the Kraken really powerful as an independent special, but make it where in canon, its power and ferocity leads it to accidentally hitting its own allies in the process. Now it’s a more terrifying monster for the opponent, but also risky to use in a team fight, and you can’t easily sit on the tower or Rainmaker holder without splatting them.
    Also, make it where Intensify Action and Swim Speed Up affect the special, but at half the effect of a normal player. If you fully dedicate your gear to the Kraken, it’ll become just as legendary and dangerous as the beast it was named after.

    A few people are making the argument that a lot of my points in this video are more of a problem with the netcode, rather than Kraken itself. A few things:
    - I'd argue that it's a combination of the two. I stand by the fact that Kraken's design has flaws, but those flaws get amplified by the horrible tickrate. Its ability to quickly make sharp turns and change direction unpredictably, combined with its gigantic hitbox, makes it more unbearable than any other weapon or special with lag, in my opinion
    - I still think it's okay to complain about Kraken specifically with the lag, because this special tends to benefit more from lag compared to others. If every special benefitted the same way that Kraken does, then yeah it wouldn't be a Kraken issue. But that's just not the case.
    The same argument can be made for Reefslider, except in the opposite way. This special suffers HARDER from lag than any other (as you often die after your s should have kicked in) no other special really gets affected by this (and the ones that do it happens WAY less frequently), so even though it's the fault of the netcode, many still consider it a "Reefslider issue"

    I hate kraken so much. There's absolutely no way to cancel it, and it's stupid how easily they can target certain players, like either if it's a vulnerable player, or it's someone who's more important than the rest of the team like a cooler or the rainkmaker. Now that clams cheese is gone, the most annoying thing in the world is to have 3 teammates perfectly positioning to defending the rainmaker and then the kraken just runs in and it doesn't matter.

    Tbh I actually really like Kraken, but I agree it has some major issues. Aside from lag, another issue is that it feels like it was still designed with the Splat1 special balance in mind. That makes it feel really good to use, but since its the ONLY splat3 special that was designed this way, no other special has the same "power" behind it. Personally my only changes (aside from netcode)would be to make it so the more you shoot it, the smaller it gets, and some specials should be able to "pierce" its invincibility so its not fully invincible.

    I feel like fundamentally the special drops off in enjoyability a lot in more optimised or high-level environments. Chasing players with kraken is a lot of fun, and imo being chased and made to outmanoeuvre kraken is also a fun challenge, but when you start using its invincibility in more cheesy ways it changes the way you get to interact with it to be a lot less fun. Being a shield for other players or a get-off tool in tower isn’t nearly as fun as playing aggressively, but it’s usually the stronger play unfortunately.

    The most laggy weapon i hate is the range bluster, it gets a huge blaster radius thanks to the lag. Now it got Kraken in the new season, I can't imagine how painful it is.

    To be honest apart from the apparent lag and some cheese that it's "said" to ruin certain modes. Kraken royale is probably one of the better specials to use especially if it's for casual or for the fun of it. If they do things for kraken they're just gonna cater to competitive, JUST competitive and it would take the fun out the special. If certain casuals have to deal with the vastly adept use of zipcaster or the tryhards of the game then we should have a special like kraken without the lag obviously.

    I don't think we should nerf it anymore then needed it's already been tuned so u can't cheese tower and claims and also starting and ending lags if it's nerfed anymore it might become unusable for weapons like Krak-On Roller
    in most cases the nerfs effect salmon run which is not a good idea we should look at tri-zooka and nerf that
    that is more priority over Kraken

    I think they could just make the charge attack slower. Make it like 50% ~ 100% longer to charge an attack. IMO the kraken isn’t that bad to deal with, it’s charge attack itself that is extremely oppressive, so nerfing it this way makes the kraken’s movement much easier to predict

    You must remember that Kraken's range is literally melee. Compared to pretty much every other special, its range is tiny. Crab, for example, can affect large portions of the map all at once while Kraken can only affect the general vicinity. Kraken is not overtuned, and all it needs is less jank with the weird connectivity issues.

    Clams cheese isn’t necessarily kraken’s fault; kraken just made it blatantly obvious.
    What they shoulda done? What I’ve been advocating for forever: simply make it so that you can’t superjump if you have a super clam (except possibly back to spawn), and clam cheese goes away. There’s no reason for that and I don’t get why it’s a viable play style lol.

    I think they need to limit dashes in some way maybe give it 1 dash per Kraken and make it reset when you get a kill so that Kraken players have to think about how they dash more
    Maybe Dashing lowers the duration of Kraken kinda like how zipcaster can run out of ink. Making its hitboxes smaller

    I’d have to agree with most of the points here while it is sometimes hard to get kills in higher ranks/comp there are times where you can just get undeserved kills from accidentally charging into someone sharking to someone running past you a bit after you activated it. Granted I do like the special(.96 Deco Player) because being able to hard read people trying to run is funny. Other than that there should be a way to deal with it besides running away.

    If your complaint is that it puts others at a disadvantage to where they have to move away, you should also dislike, booya bomb, tri strike, rain, screen, missiles, splat bombs, suction bombs, auto bombs, and fizzy bombs. I think people get to emotional about the invincibility aspect and forget that its slow and has no range. Also it is extremly slow up walls and over ledges so use that to your atvatage when avoiding it.

      This is like saying if you don't like shrimp, then you also should also dislike fish, crab, lobster, oysters, urchins, and sushi. just because they all technically do the same thing doesn't mean they're comparable.
      Everything you just listed HAS counterplay. All of the bombs can be seen being thrown, giving you time to actually react and move out of the way. All of the specials you listed can either be killed during use (as I said in the video) or it moves so slowly that someone can easily move out of the way.
      Kraken's ability to quickly and randomly change direction, combined with its massive janky hitbox, make it much more unbearable than any of the things you listed, and none of those things benefit as hard from the bad netcode either

    I think the main source of the problem concerning the laggy hitbox is that (as far as i know) splatoon as a series has always used PEER-TO-PEER instead of a server-client model. Using peer to peer is gonna suck, especially with someone in the game having crappy internet. It's also probably the CLIENT-SIDE HIT DETECTION that's at work here. You're probably appearing to be legitimately killed on their end, while being 5 miles to their right on your end.

    ngl kraken barely gives me any problems to fight against ever. say what you want, I just move to the side and they always dash right by me. maybe it's just the people I que with?
    edit: i realize they said that lag causes you to get hit anyway, this is the first i've seen it this bad. maybe i just have amazing internet, because I can consistently dodge krakens with very little effort by just stepping aside.

    I'm not gonna sugarcoat it when I say that I absolutely love using Kraken more than any other special in this game. As an avid Splatoon 1 veteran who played a plethora of Kraken weapons, seeing it return in this game with its updated look and mechanics was super satisfying and fun to play.
    But with that being said, I fully agree and conclude that it does NOT belong in this game whatsoever.
    Splatoon 3 felt like we were finally leaving the era of not only invincibility specials, but giving many specials necessary startup/endlag or immobility to compensate for the strengths that come with them.
    I understand that Kraken was brought back to further cash in on the Splatoon 1 theming the game was going for, but they either should've HEAVILY reworked its invincibility making it much more easy to counter/play around, or realized that its design was simply too fundamentally flawed for this game and should've remained as a relic of Splatoon 1.
    It really does suck because Kraken is one of the coolest designs the series has ever introduced and is wildly iconic to Splatoon as a whole.

    You can still do Kracken cheese. Just start the special below the basket and you can just dick around while your teammates dunk super clams. Also you can do this with inkjet and caster too. Just start the special within throwing range of the basket.

    I do think adding an invincible into the game was a bad idea
    But I do think this special has one major downside this special is really REALLY hard and from what I have heard especially at a competitive level
    Yeah kraken can do some pretty unfair feeling things but so can a lot of the specials in this game
    does kraken feel worse to fight then any of them? sure but I do not think it needs nerfs
    BUT if they want to bring it into S4 they NEED to give it some hp or something to make people feel better about it

    I just think that kraken was a terrible idea. I liked that Splatoon was moving away from invincibility specials. Kraken and Triple Splashdown ruined my enjoyment of the game and I barely play anymore unless I'm invited.

    I think bringing back Kraken was a mistake because we already have Ultra Stamp. They fill almost the exact same niche as invincible, mobile, melee specials, but Ultra Stamp is just fundamentally better designed in terms of balance and skill expression. The biggest thing is that Ultra Stamp is only invincible from the front, while Kraken is totally invincible. Invincibility is a ridiculously powerful quality, but because Ultra Stamp has a level of conditionality to its invincibility, it gets rid of a lot of the balance problems that Kraken has. I’d also say that Ultra Stamp has much more nuanced and interesting movement and gameplay than Kraken, for a few reasons. First, it has a limited turning radius on its charge attack. This makes it more predictable and unwieldy, making it much more reasonable to juke an Ultra Stamp than a Kraken, while requiring more skill and strategy from the Ultra Stamp user. Second, it must be moving to deal continuous damage. The reason Tower cheese exists for Kraken is because it can just spam its jump attack and cover the whole tower with a massive hitbox. Ultra Stamp also has a jump attack, but it’s very quick and directional, so you can’t just hold the tower with it for completely free. And because Ultra Stamp’s charge attack makes you move, you can’t just camp a tiny area like the Tower with it. Third, you can go into squid form. The other two points are both ways that Ultra Stamp is less powerful than Kraken, so this is one area where it has an advantage. Having access to squid form adds an element of stealth, but because you can’t use your main weapon, you can’t really paint, making Ultra Stamp have to use existing ink more strategically. Swimming and stealth are two of the most unique mechanics in Splatoon, so these just make Ultra Stamp even more nuanced and interesting than Kraken. And fourth, Ultra Stamp can be thrown as a projectile, giving it even more options and a way to deal with long range threats. Unfortunately, Ultra Stamp is mostly balanced while Kraken is almost broken, so as long as Kraken exists and your goal is to win, there’s no reason to ever pick Ultra Stamp. And finally, all my points are based on the assumption that Ultra Stamp actually worked correctly, but that is currently not the case. It isn’t actually fully invincible from the front, so many weapons can just shoot your feet and kill you, making it basically a suicide button. If Ultra Stamp was just fully invincible from the front and maybe a little on the sides, and Kraken didn’t exist, I think it would be an extremely well balanced and fun special. All I want from Splatoon 4 is for them to get rid of all the fundamentally badly designed specials like Kraken, Reefslider, and Splashdown.

    I think they legit just need to make it smaller again, like it was in Splatoon 1. I believe that's 90% of the issue. Make it smaller and keep the movespeed buff as is. Something that big shouldn't be fast, but make it smaller and that speed might be necessary for balance.

    A lot of these points are just issues with the game that kraken takes advantage of. The objective cheese is kinda an issue with a ton of specials rn, especially the bad ones (slider/vac zone cheese). Of all of the objective cheese in this game, I'd argue that kraken cheese on tower and rm is some of the most manageable and least annoying.

    honestly i think you "hate too much" the special, it is very hard to use at lower level and at high level it's hard to get even one kill with this special, i don't mean that i like that special because i don't really like it too but you dont take into consideration the dificulty of the special, reverting it's speed buff would make it feel even worse to use

    I'm a kraken Royale main, but if you want me to make a suggestion, the start up could be faster, I don't like being cancelled when activating it
    and I guess a nerf would be, something like how charge attacks drained your special time down faster so people can plan said charges and won't rely on them that much... Not even me

    Kraken's about to be even more of a problem once Sizzle season rolls around given the fact that CRB is back and it has its S1 kit.

    I understand that you want to give it some nerfs to make it less cheesy but i feel like if it get such drastic nerfs it ahould also get some buffs to not make it trash. It‘s already pretty mediocre compared to other specials and without buffs to compensate it would just be stamp 2.0

    I never liked the idea of an invincibility special being in Splatoon. Sure there are ways to counter Kraken Royale, but they are either shooting it, jumping over it, or just completely ignore it. That is not particularly engaging at all.

    Yeah, that hitbox is complete bs, because I can full on dodge a rush attack, but still somehow end up dead. It’s so stupid.

    I dont really have a problem with kraken at all. The majority of the time i find it actually kinda hinders the team using it bc theyre essentially down a player for its duration and i can usually avoid it and aplat the rest of the players who now have less protection due to the kraken going in

    I really don't understand how the longer range 1 shot charges in .3 seconds while it can jump with a huge w shot hit box upclose.
    In solo queue S ranks the most annoying part about the special is the free stall or carries it gives, and the complete dominance of its matchup spread.
    We need a tierlist for best weapons for running away from kraken, since that's all it can do....
    ALSO IT CLIMBS? Just why man lmao this thing should push ppl around the map, the only way to fix it.
    Invincible + does damage = BS.
    Explo ain't got any invincibility on anything, this game really trips me up when thinking about how hard they punish certain things for no reason, or let it slide... (cough cough ELITRE)
    watever, dying from splat bombs in the .8 seconds it takes for me to move after a slosh is just part of the experience at this point.

    Lag in splatoon 3 is actually one of the biggest problems in the game because doesn't affect kraken's hitbox only... I'm convinced that some weapons could be much better if lag didn't exist, in particular the class of brellas... I swear that brellas suffer a lot of the problem of tha lag in splatoon 3 because when you use a brella you have to attack when the oponent don't attack and you depends a lot of the movements of your enemy. I am not a brella main but I like to take it some times and is really annoying when you open your shield when you see that is not attacking you still die because actually in the other screen your oponent in that same moment is attacking. And is not the unique case, I am sure that sometimes happens the same with people like you who uses dualies, I think not that bad but stills affect... But whatever, the lag affects all of users of this game, some users suffer more than others but is still a very big problem that everybody suffers. I agree with you that kraken is a problem because the lag, but that I think that must be solved fixing the problem of the lag. Good video Chase
